I've been in such a predicament over the last year or so. My first year of vaping went extremely well, quit cigarettes completely, was using a very low grade pg juice, tobacco flavored, for the main duration. Then I started reading up about the dangers of PG and how VG was a better carrier liquid than PG, so I made the switch over.

Unfortunately, ever since my transition to vaping VG, my asthma has completely flared up to the point that I was rushed into hospital one night. I hadn't had an asthma flare since i was a teenager. I am now 30. this was just over 8 months ago.

I was using mainly eco pure vg juice from intellicig. It is a beautiful tasting tobacco flavor, and I initially brought the highest 30mg strength, and I got so use to that, that whenever I tried anything lower, I just couldn't feel satisfied after having vaped it for quite a while. I always knew that it was causing my asthma flare ups. It would never happen during the day, only at night whilst vaping before going to bed in my room. I was literally gasping for breathe and always have to use an inhaler.

I tried many other brands of e-liquid from different vendors, all vg, vg mixed with pg, but always keep having the same problem.

I then tried a pure unflavored PG juice from totallywicked.. The 52mg nicotine. I think it was called krystal. Now I vaped this without mixing it. It was amazing. I got the best throat hit, though not a lot of vapour, but that throat hit made up for it. I vaped this for about a month, and then I developed a chest infection 4 times in the space of 3 months..

My doctor couldn't quite understand the recurring infection, and the cough I had developed as he knew I had stopped smoking quite a while back. I had no idea it was the PG that was causing this. Only after having read through forums, I realised that some people can develop allergies to PG, which is what I think I may have done. As soon as i quit vaping it, my chest infection cleared up and the phlegm that use to develop had disappeared and that general cold/flu like feeling also subsided.

I have tried everything in my power to mix different strength juices, with PG/VG at different concentrations, and the only thing that works is a very low strength pg. I don't seem to have any asthma flare ups or flu like symptoms when vaping a 8mg or 10mg strength pg juice. But, It doesn't satiate me. I have been so used to getting those incredible throat hits, and sometimes really nice vapor, which all seems to have disappeared whilst vaping these low strength pg juices. I feel like i'm vaping air. It is so .......n frustrating. I just want that vapor, that throat hit back. :(

I was in desperation, that I went out and brought a packet of real cigarettes, which... is probably the worst mistake that I have made. After smoking only them for one day, I'm hooked again. Having said that.. My asthma wheezing disappeared, and an aching sensation in my legs has disappeared which I had almost every day for the last year and a half??

I don't know what is going on, I hate smoking, yet, it got to the point where I started to hate vaping because I couldn't breathe and some other side effects that I suffered from.

What am I going to do? Am I a special case or can anybody else relate? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for listening.. just needed to vent

I can understand not wanting to vape if you can't breathe. Breathing is pretty important!

Have said that 8-10 mg/ml doesn't aggravate your asthma right? Have you thought of vaping a very low strength and using another nicotine/tobacco product to supplement the nicotine? You could try snus or orbs, or even the pharmaceutical gum. Just an idea.

There is more information about TH in the DIY section. Particularly:

1) PGA
2) A product that adds TH rather than flavor

Also, flavoring plays a big role in sensitivities too. With DIY you can find out if multiple things are going on at the same time...not just PG and/or VG ratios.

I missed what device(s) and atomizer/cartos you were using at what voltage. The 5 volt stuff (3.0 ohm attys) keeps me off cigs with plumes. But that doesn't address the other issues.

Poorly performing equipment can cause lung problems/irritation too. Just a thought.

So you went back to smoking cigarettes because you read that PG was bad for you? I am very confused by that. So the PG is worse than the thousands of toxins in cigarettes? I would love the link to what you have been reading. I never knew PG was that bad for you. I am not being sarcastic, seriously where did you read this?

Don't they say not to vape if you have lung problems? COPD, etc? The same would be worse with smoking. I've read here of people with asthma whose symptoms went away with vaping too. Smoking may help now but you'll see Jesus faster.
If no mix works and the problem continues it's time to quit everything. I would think that your problem could morph into pneumonia and trust me that is not good.

I hate to say it but, with all your health issues maybe you just have to bite the bullet and cold turkey off everything. 30 years old is to young to be suffering from leg aches and breathing problems. I do know smoking is not the answer, whatever conditions you have sooner or later smoking will worsen them, I would guess far quicker, than vaping. I am no doctor, but you must trust your bodies reaction. Remember, millions have quit all forms of tobacco and nicotine, it is possible!! I wish I could offer more advice, but I certainly wish you well and hope you feel better soon.

You have my deepest sympathy. The problem with asthma and stuff...and you also want to quit smoking. I have a lot of people that I want to share my vaping experience for quitting cigarette but one of them also have asthma like you. I am afraid of doing more bad than good to him. Anyway I agreed with other opinion for getting the xtra nicotine and IMHO you need to adjust yourself of getting the TH you are craving. For me I exchange the TH with strong and sweet flavor. Good luck.

I feel for anyone trying to quit period. Been there and nothing worked for me except vaping. I would throw those analogs in the trash before you get use to them again. They will kill you and cause more health issues, thats a known fact. Maybe stock up on some nicotine gum? Mix your own juices? So many great people here will spend there time to share the knowledge they have learned to help a total stranger. If you keep asking in the correct place I'm sure more options will come up.

As another mentioned... maybe you can do snus instead. You claim vaping caused all those issues then smoking will surly do you much worse!! Something to consider!

If you want to try the snus, I would suggest trying to find a FRESH can of Camel Frost, just to see how you like it. It is a minty, menthol flavor. You take one little pouch and stick it up underneath your gums. Then, take a sip of water to wet the pouch, just a bit. The flavor will drip down into your mouth for hours! You get plenty of nicotine from it. But, you are still using tobacco. WHen I used it, it did take away my cravings. If this works, you should look into getting Swedish Snus or other high quality brands. This would be better for you than smoking, imo...

Maybe for severe copd but my doctor was very supportive of me switching to a e-cig and i have mild copd and this is the best i felt in years.
