hope someone can point out what is wrong with mine. I think I have 2 problems. First of all, how I did it. Well, I did the same as what people suggested. Torch the ss to bark red while moving it around the torch. Dip in water. Repeat several times. Then roll it and slip it into the coil. I installed the coil first. Put some efluid on it and burn it with the e-cig. Sometimes, it create flame on my e-cig and I left it burn. I repeat each steps several times. When I vape, there are 2 problems.

1- very little vape. No where close to my startdust and MT3.
2- smell/taste so bad. Worse than burning a piece of paper. It also has a little metal burning smell/taste. When I inhall it anyway, it burn my throat so bad.

Can someone point out what I missed?
This is the cobra from fasttech.
Thanks.

Sounds like you have discovered hot-spots and shorts with your description rnln!

I am consistently wrapping the same decent-grade coils. Thank god I wrapped a decent one before work today, I burnt the palm side of all four of my fingers almost all of the way down on my left hand, there will be no wrapping for a few days. Damn rondeau and sicilian meatballs...

That will learn me!

Anyways, I broke down and swallowed my pride, called in to Buckeye Vapors and I'll be heading there next week on one of my days off to work with Jay for a bit. I figure I can show him how I think it should be done, and he can show me where and why I'm wrong. Hopefully this coil doesn't pop on account of me doing something dumb before my hand heals.

E; Current coil is at 1.6 ohms, though it's getting almost white hot at around 4.6 volts, seems a little bit overboard (and it's getting white hot EVERYWHERE! even the bottom!)

Also, when I ordered this VAMO, I ordered two of the shorter batteries and two longer ones. The two shorter ones are high drain, will this make the voltage pull of the device slightly higher than 3 volts if it's on 3 volts?

So when I have my coil all sorted out and even when glowing. When I put juice in I always get a hot leg on the wire to the positive post. I have not made one coil that won't do this and I'm on my 14th coil now. I'm running out of mesh also doing this.

What I did to resolve that is before you wrap your coil around the wick, push it towards the positive post. When I did this, (I actually did this immediately after reading your post originally) I completely eliminated that top leg hot spot.

And now...

I wrapped a 28g coil at 7/8 wrap. I'm at 1.6 ohms and this thing is now vaping like an up and coming champ. Might be a local champion in a small county, but not quite amazing. I figured that since I was able to wrap "decent" tasting 32g coils, it was time to try something a little more difficult. This coil took me no longer than 15 minutes to wrap (in fact, I wrapped it once!). After wrapping it, it took me next to no time to adjust the coils. I'm having a slight issue with the top coil and the bottom. The top coil is ever so slightly cooler than the middle coils, and the bottom is much cooler. I cannot for the life of me get the bottom to get hotter, but the top sits at either super hot with little heat on the bottom, or cooler, with much more evenly distributed heat.

Now I've run into a small problem with my VAMO. The first, attached battery compartment is slightly tilted. Is this a common problem for the VAMOs to almost seem as if they've come loose?

Good to see you're finally getting the hang of it.

High drain batteries can deliver higher amperage output than non-high drains. It will not affect their voltage. Battery discharge (and charge) ratings are measured in "C". 1C = amp-hour capacity of a battery. This means a 2200 mAh (2.2aH) battery, when discharged at 1C, gives out 2.2amps. This is much down to the internal resistance of batteries. Higher quality batteries has lower internal resistance, and less power is lost to heat generation (picture tiny kanthal coils, but they aren't). Thus, they can deliver higher amperage before losing efficiency.

Trying to get too much amperage out of a too low rated battery will make it overheat (possibly damaged/destroyed), discharge quickly, and have a short service life (total charge cycles).

Keep in mind that in our application of batteries (especially mech mods), the batteries want to discharge themselves instantly. We use resistance wire (that convert electricity to heat) to keep them discharging at a more manageable rate. The amount of resistance used determines what amperage is pulled from the battery once the circuit is closed and the kanthal heats up.

I ordered batteries based on forum recommendations,

2x Efest 800 18350
and
2x Efest 2250 19650

The batteries do fairly well.

I readjusted the coil, separated it a bit and got it to heat a bit more evenly from the top coil down the second from the bottom. My bottom coil still isn't heating much at all, but I'm getting better hits at higher voltages. I'm somehow sure my next 28g coil will be much better.

I highly suggest anyone having trouble with getting a hot top leg, use the Petar K method as far as wrapping the coil. I used a Q-Tip to wrap mine, and all of mine now, and get no problems with a hot top leg. Simply wrap, even the spacing out and take care of any hot-spots then vape away. I can have them set now in about 5 minutes using this method.

I think if you're differenciating extreme burn at the back of the throat with simple burnt taste, that would be more akin to a mostly dry wick on an otherwise fully energized and evenly glowing coil. This is an easy place to get to with low ohm setups. Gotta make sure that wick is wet. With a fresh batt on a hard hitting PV, I'll usually hold it somewhat tilted between vapes to let the wick soak... though gotta be careful not to spill juice. As the batt bleeds off, less tilting is nessesary... usually just during the hit then.

I've also noticed that when you intentionally dry the wick to check the glow or burn the gunk off the coil, the bottom coil will often not glow at first along with the upper coils. I'm beginning to think this is because there's problably still a little wetness pooling at the lower end of the wick in the coil section due to gravity, and it's simply this wetness keeping if from glowing along with the top coils. Usually, after a few pulses and drying, they all glow evenly if it's stable.

What size washers are you guys using for your AGA? Also, are you using stainless steel or is aluminum alright?

Also, with DIY flavoring, if I overmix my flavors, might that be the primary cause of the extreme burn when inhaling?

I'm using two 2.5mm ss washers I got from menards for my agat2. I also have 2mm and 3mm ss washers but the 2.5 is the sweet spot for the AGA-T2.

Well, after having great success with an RSST for a month or so, I got myself an AGA T2 and I'm not having much luck at all. I've been through about a dozen coils and wicks and just can't get it right. Always getting burnt, metallic taste from hot spots.

Just posting to say I can now sympathize with the OP.

Whenever I have this problem there's a few things I did wrong. First and the most likely culprit is when you wrap the coil. You have to wrap it perfectly perpendicular to the wick. If you wrapped it even at the slightest angle there will be gaps. Second, make sure the legs are the same length. This gets a lot of people because it sounds so simple but you've got to look really well at where the wire actually makes contact. The wire will want to twist around the screw and will make contact at a different point than what you think. The last thing I usually check is the coil on the end where the leg is getting hot. That's a sure sign that either the top most or bottom most coil is too tight in relation to the other coils, and usually stems from not wrapping the coil perfectly perpendicular. Whenever this happens I just wrap another coil because it's almost impossible to save without messing up the other coils. Hopefully where I have problems is the same for you and this will help you.

Thanks for that Scrappy! I always do exactly as you do though - legs same length, coils perpendicular.

So, I got out all my supplies again last night and set to the AGA T2....I was determined to get it to work this time - TAKE NO PRISONERS!! :)

I first disassembled the whole thing. While re-assembling, I thought I would try flipping the inner tube. I figured I wasn't really sure which way it should go so it can't hurt to try. I ended up with it upside down I think - the end with the longer small diameter part is towards the bottom of the tank.

Lo and behold, after wrapping a 28awg coil at .8 ohms, it's performing almost perfectly!

The only reason I say "almost" is because I didn't really expect it to work (yet again) so I didn't spend as much time as I should have to get the wick more solid. As a result, it's not wicking as well as it could, I gotta tilt a bit when the juice level gets lower.

Only 2 things I did differently was (1) flipped the center tube and (2) I oxidized the mesh with a Bic lighter instead of my gas stove (got a torch on the way).

I can't imagine that a lighter would do a better job of oxidizing than a gas stove, but the mesh did turn out a bit darker than with the stove. :?:

Anyway, I'm just happy that I don't have to throw the AGA against the wall. :)

Will build a better wick and coil tonight and fully expect it to be working perfectly. Thanks to everyone for all the tips!

if anyone can tell me how to fix this so i can actually vape this g@#$%^@#%@ F@#%@#%ing thing I'd virtually do dirty things. I have an aga s and i've watched enough videos with enough basic knowledge, wrapped a ss mesh coil with 30g and it says atomizer short on my evic. i want to die right now (not serious but throwing it through the window is more accurate)

So you're saying my problems are likely due to bad oxidization?

I'd kill for someone who lives in Columbs, OH to meet up with me and give me some in person tips.

I used to live in Columbus... all of my 'tips' are being covered here... they're good ones. Keep at it.... you'll 'get' it. Knowledge, Patience, Practice and experience is 'key' ;)
