AGA-T2: is the deck setup correctly?

Hi all -

my wife was kind enough to get me an AGA-T2 as one of my birthday gifts. I opened it up and when I looked at the deck, it didn't look like it was setup "right" to me. Since the package didn't include instructions, I thought it wise to consult folks with more expertise than I. Here's a pic:



Since the negative post is in the 7 o'clock position, shouldn't the wick be coming out of the hole at about 6 o'clock? Can I just move the screw from the 6 o'clock hole to the one at 12 o'clock? Apologies in advance if I'm asking something that's been asked before, I tried searching for AGA-T2 or AGA, but came up empty.

If you are setting up a vertical wick, then your wick hole is at 12, your neg terminal is at 1, and the rest is a fill hole (pick one) and xtras.

If you are setting up a horizontal wick (silica, cotton, hemp), then your negative terminal is the postie thingy at 7 (leaving you the 12 wick hole + unscrew another for another wick hole + unscrew another for a fill hole)

Thanks pdib. I guess I was thrown because the 7 o'clock terminal had the postie thingy I would think that using the postie thingy would help prevent shorts from having the coil touching the deck. Is the postie thingy movable to the 1 o'clock hole?

It's pressure fit. If you can force it out, it won't thread in anywhere else. a lot of us got AGA when there were fewer screw holes and we would knock that out for a dual wick setup. The negative lead of your wire can rest on the deck without hurting anything (ultimately, the screw is just keeping it tight against the deck too). I used to put a little "knee" in my wire, to clearly establish a length of wire not touching, so that it was roughly equal to the length of the pos. lead/leg, and it was a good pressure point to push or pull on to adjust wire tension near the bottom of my wrap. This pic shows a "knee", the coil style is another story.

On this one, I had a knee at the top too (@ the center postie thingie ). You can see how you could push the knees towards or away from the wick to tighten or loosen tension. Here, I did it at the top because I wanted my coil at a particular height.

Thanks for all the clarification pdib! Beautiful coil...is that 30ga? or 28? I can't imagine being able to manipulate the wire that well with 32, but I'm still a little new to coils.

I don't recall the gauge, probably 28. And, you are correct, MJ, 30 gauge and below is easier to manipulate. After a light torching-to-glow, it holds whatever shape you give it. 32 is doable, but multiple torchings are helpful for setting shapes, adjusting, reaffirming.
