So I picked up an AGA T2 to try on my SVD last night. I spent several hours this afternoon trying to set it up and it was a complete disaster.
I rolled the SS mesh, oxidized it with a torch and wrapped it with either 32 gauge or 30 gauge kanthal. Neither of which produced a useable coil at 4 or 5 wraps. The SVD won't fire anything under 1.3 ohms and even with extra wraps it was reading less than an ohm.
On the odd chance that I got a coil that ohm'ed out ok for the SVD, it either had a ridiculous hot spot on the lead to the center post or simply burned out....and naturally, the flavor was burnt and nasty.
I've done less wraps and had a useable coil for my IGO-L on the SVD.
I understand the preferable way to use the AGA is on a mechanical mod, so is this a waste of time on the SVD, or is this a procedural problem on my part? Perhaps the mesh I had which I think was 325(???) is not ideal for this? I purchased the 325 because I intended to use it with 100% VG.
