Hi, Lovely!! Have you tried cold brew coffee? OMG, I just discovered it last summer, cannot BELIEVE I spent half a century on this earth without it! Ooo... Surgery is a definite? I am SOOOO sorry.... :(

I'm a coffee fiend, but I have to consume it VERY carefully these days...my digestive system is very, very delicate. I had half a cup today. Do understand that the cold-brewed is gentler and I must get on that particular stick at some point.
Edited to add: OK, LeBeau, I've looked it up, and I plan to brew some later today (visit to chemo lounge for IV fluids this AM). I see that I can make it in my French press. Sounds like just the ticket for me.

Yes to surgery. It seems to be safest when dealing with breast cancer. I look forward to my new bionic bazoom. And it doesn't scare me in the least. I've had two minor surgeries in the past six years and I consider that the easy part of this.

Poeia -- Put the chicken soup in a bowl and sip it. Voilá — a drink to accompany your vaping. :)
I meant a sweet cold drink LOL! I'd normally be sipping on iced tea, iced coffee, or ginger ale, but they all taste yucchy to me now.

Like I said, it's temporary. Believe me, I've been working on a loooong list of foods to enjoy when I get my taste buds back! Many of them involve a trip home to New York...pizza, a bagel-and-lox...although I may be able to bribe my daughter to deliver some pastrami straight from Katz's!

Your attitude is fabulous, Penny. You ARE a fighter and survivor! I've had a few parts swapped out, and MUCH for the better. I'm hoping that I get old enough, and they install enough metal, plastic and ceramic that I'll NEVER die, only be recycled some day. :)

Yeah, the cold press. So gentle on the stomach, all the flavor, none of the acidity.
Don't even get me STARTED on Lox! I don't ask for much around here, but that there always be some good Nova Lox (belly, please!) in the fridge. Almost like my body KNOWS it needs those Omega 3 oils, I CRAVE it. When I go to a good buffet style brunch, and they have lox or GOOD smoked salmon, they never make money. ;)

I was teasing. That's why I followed up with some actual drinks. I got cold brewed coffee once. Maybe it was a bad batch (or brewed by someone who didn't know what they were doing) but it was soooo bitter I won't be trying it again.

I just googled "low acid coffee." 35,100,000 hits. Including:
Low-Acid Coffees by Kenneth Davids - January 2012 | CoffeeReview.com

I wrote the above right before I went to bed but when I went to post it, the system went all 404.

Belly lox isn't Nova. On Sundays when I was growing up we had to get belly lox for my Dad and my sister, Nova for Mom and me. I think belly lox is the salties of all the smoked salmons.

ETA: If you have a Trader Joe's, their 8 oz package of smoked salmon pieces is very good. (The 4 oz package is horrible.) It's also relatively inexpensive because it is supposedly the irregular ends but the size of the pieces is fine. I've tried a few of their other pre-packaged smoked salmons but they were mealy so I stick to the pieces.

Musta not been made right, because it's supposed to be totally the opposite. Guess I'll see tomorrow.

Sorry I didn't catch the joke about the chicken soup. Chemo brain is an excuse I can currently use!
I agree with you about the TJ's lox...it's pretty good. My dream Sunday deal would be a salt or onion bagel, cream cheese on one half, sweet butter on the other, plenty of the lox, a slice of Mun-chee cheese, and sliced onion. Swoon...

and, in the spring, Matzo Brei. Charoset (had to look up that spelling) -- I don't know why we only eat it at Passover -- chopped apples, chopped walnuts, cinnamon and a whole lot of wine tastes good anytime.

My parents didn't raise us in much of a culturally Jewish way, and I didn't even know about those foods until I married into a Conservative family. I still remember my ex-father-in-law's face when he was grilling burgers out back and I asked him for a cheeseburger!

Facepalming here.
I somehow thought the magic of the cold brew was all in the brewing, and didn't realize that I would not be able to heat it up and drink it hot. Well, I just heated half a cup to warm and had that - not bad. I will save the rest and have it iced later.

I ordered last week from Halo, a place many don't like because they decline to discuss their PG/VG balances...well, I'm not really in love with the stuff I ordered, but I got a sample of their Malibu which I love. It's basically a pina colada with mint and it's singing to me! Ironically, one I ordered and don't really like IS their Pina Colada. It has lime, and their lime flavor is just too heavy (prob'ly my chemo-destroyed taste buds' fault, so I'll hold onto it 'til this whole deal is over).
I'm currently living on homemade chicken soup. It seems to make me feel so good! I can't really explain it, but every time I have a bowl, I feel more "there." A big frustration is that I can't seem to find any cold drink I like. Hot tea: good; iced tea: bad. Weird. And I need a flavored drink to accompany my vaping. Oh, well, this will all be over by the end of July. Surgery will be nothing after dealing with what chemo does to your quality of life!

I'm glad you have something to eat that helps you feel better. Even if it's the only thing you eat you picked a good one! I've never made homemade chicken soup. My mother never even allowed me in the house when she was cooking or cleaning so I didn't learn much. I'd love your recipe when you're feeling better. If you don't mind sharing? Soup is my favorite food in the world but I'm sorry to say it consists of Campbell's canned soups. I'd really like to be able to make some good soups.

I finally broke down and bought a Keurig 2.0 machine. I drink iced tea all the time and the Keurig allows me to get a great glass of cold herbal iced tea from the K-cups that are made for hot tea. The Lemon Zinger is my favorite!

I've only made one cup of coffee. I like the half-caff. My husband is the coffee drinker. I was but then switched to hot or cold tea a few years ago. I was making 3 gallons of iced tea at a time but I can't hold the pitcher to fill it now and I couldn't get the herbal teas to brew very well. The Keurig added so much more flavor. I brew 6 oz strong over 2 cups of ice and it works great. I bought some pretty insulated 20 oz cups for it.

Is it (does it taste) boozy? I don't like alcohol in my vape.

No boozy taste at all. I don't like alcohol either.

Savoring the iced cold brew now. WOW.
I used Starbucks Verona, made it in my French press, and filtered further through a coffee filter. So smooth!!!!!!!!!

Yay!! I'm so glad it worked!:banana::banana:

Yeah, so, starting the day with cold coffee certainly is DIFFERENT. But definitely worth it to avoid stomach upset. I'll try hot again tomorrow, at least for the AM cup, bit I seriously love the cold-brew. It goes down like buttah. And I like that I didn't need any special new equipment for making it.

Bukket, I sent you my soup recipe. It's not difficult, just takes time...but I swear that if you have a cold you'll start to feel better just from the aroma.

@Bukket5 Boiled chicken makes the best chicken salad as the only grease is from the mayo.

@Make lots and freeze the leftover in single-serving containers.

Oh my.... Why did I wait so many years to try Fijian nights??? I could drink the stuff; its superb!

Absolutely one of my favorites! It was one of my first orders there, and I don't think my stash has EVER been without an open bottle, and its replacement.
I'm glad you found it Randy! Better late than never, right? :)

Fellow grapefruit haters -- go ahead and try Oasis. I taste citrus but it doesn't taste like grapefruit to me. If I had to guess, I'd say orange although there is a bit of a tang.

Overall, even though I can taste the prickly pear as well, I think it is too subtle a flavor for me. I like a little more flavor in my flavor.

A few years ago I got a good pressure cooker, which came with a recipe book including a recipe for chicken stock. I throw a whole chicken into it. Not only is it relatively quick, the stock is just as good as a long cooked one, and we can eat the boiled chicken for days with a green sauce or mayo or whatever.
