Familiarity breeds contempt. The people who have an "I know what I'm doing so I don't have to follow the precautions" are the ones who: fall into industrial equipment they were cleaning without turning it off; cause explosions at chemical plants; and are spending the night in the ER after absorbing an overdose of nicotine through their skin.Respectfully, IMHO handling 100MG NIC requires safety precautions. It's dangerous stuff and I've seen my share of NIC "burns" to the skin. Compounding this issue is that very experienced mixers often post how they handle 100MG with little if any safety precautions BUT what people forget is that they have been doing it for years and I always prefer to error on the side of caution. Their is absolutely nothing wrong with starting your DIY journey with say 24MG NIC if this makes you nervous. I'm not sure if the Mothership site still has the pics of the lab tecks all geared up which may help confirm what I'm suggesting. So with that said and trying not to start a flame war with my beloved "clan" the following are required:
Gloves – five or more
Mask – one
Safety Goggles – one
Lab Coat – one (could also be an extra layer of old clothes with long sleeves)
If you have long hair (ladies) please pull it back and secure it or cover it. You don't want your golden locks dangling in a beaker full of 100MG NIC.
As the following pic illustrates I also use some "cookie plates" which do a dandy job of containing any spills and I've had a few. Natch, no kids or pets around and I mix in my kitchen with running water just a few steps away.

I'd prefer small bottles. Easier to work with and you only remove enough from the freezer for a few months at a time.why yes, only about 100 of 'em-great thinking Poeia. Wow that would be a lot of transferring though because I wanted to buy 500mls
Buy a funnel. Just make sure the spout part is narrower than the bottle neck. If air can't escape while you're pouring liquid in, you get a back-up.why yes, only about 100 of 'em-great thinking Poeia. Wow that would be a lot of transferring though because I wanted to buy 500mls
yes but here we get into the 'handling it more than necessary' with 100mg (I insist on buying it this way) I am just imagining transferring to 16 (500ml divided by 30ml =16) of nic that is thick..bound to be an accident. How thick is it anyway? Maybe I am envisioning it thicker than it really is.....I'd prefer small bottles. Easier to work with and you only remove enough from the freezer for a few months at a time.
I recently gave almost all my glass bottles to a friend who is into aromatherapy and stuff.

I'm planning to buy 50 or 60mg. I vape 6mg and if worse comes to vapocalypse, the ratios should be easy. But I have a question -- why FIVE gloves? Two for each hand and one for a hat? Left hand, right hand, left foot, right foot and one covering the bottle?
Awesome find. Thanks Y, I think you know their information backwards and forwards. The conversation was several years ago. The crux of it IF my memory serves me, was that Wlad had tested nicotine from all available sources, and he recommended MFS to me as the cleanest, purest, and most accurate in Nic reporting available to ME. I may have made the mental leap that it was what he was using, all on my own.
And you have maintained your healthy respect for chemicals, something your competitors (who are also professionals) obviously haven't.
I keep walking into walls, especially if they're on my right. I recently got my eyes tested and there are no blind spots. It's a balance problem. I'm working on it. (At least I rarely get severe vertigo attacks like I did a decade ago. When I do, I have to grab some wall to make sure I don't fall.)
I have a small kitchen. If I start doing DYI I will have to remove my coffee maker from the counter to have (almost) enough room.
And I have severe nasal allergies that cause me to have coughing fits that wrack my body.
Obviously the majority of people mixing know what they are doing, and do it safely. Also, there are people who ignore procedure and pay the price. Knowing me, I'll wear all the recommended safety wear.![]()

......... I'd be running like a Kenyan on Caffeine for the shower....
No hysteria here. Just a healthy respect for a toxin. (ETA: I also don't handle chlorine bleach or use it in an unvented room.)By all means, Poeia, wear the gear. I'm not advocating swimming in it, or even NOT using gloves. It's a good, common sense practice. Believe me, I do my BEST not to touch it. I keep a wet rag, and paper towel, right there when I use it. If it ended up in my lap, I'd be running like a Kenyan on Caffeine for the shower. I just don't like seeing the mass hysteria over the presence of it in ones home, and I am trying to provide perspective.
If you're lucky, your local discount store will have them. I got a box of 100 vinyl gloves for $2.99. I'd prefer latex but at 3¢ a glove you buy what they have. Very helpful when scrubbing the bird cage.LOL. A senior moment. Five pairs of gloves to get started or buy 100 pairs at a time. They are and should be disposed of after each use. Just like your DR or nurse does. Not sure but I think they were about 20 cents per pair in a box of 100. Happy to help anyones "glove drive". Just PM me.
At a cost of about $3 per 30 ML of a DIY mix, I have plenty of room in my budget.
That link was for 4 oz boston rounds which are 118 ML bottles. Great size.
hahaha thanks for helping keep this in perspective LLBDo we remove our towels before spraying air freshener in the bathroom? Formaldehyde. Known carcinogen. And we wipe our entire body, over and over, with them.
Do we put on gloves to wipe furniture polish on our tables? And then to use that furniture? Nitrobenzenes. Genetic changes, birth defects, cancer, damages liver, kidney, heart and central nervous system.
Do we don gloves and respirators when we apply carpet or upholstery cleaner to spills? Or rinse those chemicals back out? Perchloroethylene. Known carcinogen, damages liver, kidney and nervous system.
THIS one, will ABSOLUTELY blow your mind. Triclosan - SourceWatch
Laundry products, mold and mildew cleaners, oven and stovetop cleaners, toiletbowl cleaners, the list is endless. Products FAR FAR more dangerous, that we expose ourselves to FAR more often, take MUCH longer to metabolize, if not outright resistant and subject to bioaccumulation, than nicotine.
I have extended Hazwoper training. Hazardous material removal and cleanup is what my company does. I get monthly and annual retraining in all aspects of it. AND we have a perfect, NO recordable incident record, in the 9 years I've owned this company, an industry rife with poisonings, contamination, injuries and deaths. Not a one of my competitors that I know of, can make that claim.
Among the least of my fears, is brief contact with 100mg nicotine. Your bath towel is possibly far more dangerous.![]()

for? To keep it from harming anyone or to keep it better preserved? Thanks for allowing me all these questionsFinally, I wrap the bottles in bubble wrap, clearly label including the date purchased, and use tape around the cap. Some other folks even seal each bottle in an air tight double baggie.

I'd kill for a dishwasher. For a washer-dryer in my apartment, I can't even imagine. If I win the lottery, I'm moving just to get those appliances.EDIT: My pic shows 250 ML Blue Boston Round bottles with quality Phenolic caps. I don't remember who I purchased them from. I mostly use 120 ML bottles and 250 ML bottles. 120 ML is probably more popular in the DIY world. Natch, the room in your freezer and your budget comes into play. I also wash all my bottles and caps in my dishwasher before I use them. Some folks get really .... and sterilize them but that's not my cup of T. Finally, I wrap the bottles in bubble wrap, clearly label including the date purchased, and use tape around the cap. Some other folks even seal each bottle in an air tight double baggie.
I will do the transfer from the two I liter MFS nic plastic bottles pictured in one session so I only have to open those plastic bottles once. All my equipment/supplies and gear is layed out and organized before I suit up and start the transfer. I don't want anyone else around and work non stop to maintain my focus.
Good luck and happy happy mixing and transfer!

I'll bet he hates vaping a lot less than he hated smoking before you quit.My husband has already said that he'll help me with it so I'll have a partner. Even though he hates me vaping. Lol.
