50% of aboriginal people smoke vaping will save lives. Lots of work to do. I'll get back to you

I went to the local Pow-Wow a few weeks ago and tobacco awareness and smoking cessation seemed to be a major concern, at least here in California. Time to spread the word about vaping!

I've taken my vaping stuff on numerous flights (both domestic and international) over the past few years, and I've never had any issues whatsoever. I'm getting ready to go on an extended trip, so I will put my juice away in my checked bag and take a 10 mL in my carry-on. I vape in airports (and the bathroom on the plane) but I try to be discreet about it.

I normally vape 12 mg, but I keep a stash of 18 around just for occasions when I don't have many opportunities to vape, such as air travel. I usually try to find something with a really good throat hit, but doesn't have a crazy amount of vapor production or a strong aroma, so as not to blow my cover!

First I'm the volunteer President of the board of directors of a community health centre in Toronto Canada for Aboriginal people Home (yes I have a day job - I'm a project and infrastructure specialist). The most popular misconception about our pipes is that they are for making peace. In fact our pipes are for prayer. Creator gave us 4 sacred medicines: sage, sweetgrass, cedar and tobacco. The smoking of tobacco is for prayer. When we smoke our prayers are carried to Creator in the smoke of the tobacco. Pipes are given (at least mine was) as result of prayer and guidance from a traditional person / medicine person. Being a Pipe Carrier brings the responsibility of being available to other Aboriginal people who seek help or guidance on any range of issues. Most pipes are made from the stone taken from a quarry in, yes, Pipestone Minnesota, some can be very ornate and beautifully crafted or very plain and simple as is mine. Some are very old and have been passed down and are very important to our people and are very powerful. Pipes that are used in a spiritual fashion (I've seen pipes for sale on the net) are "activated" in ceremony. I hope that I've been able to properly respond to your question. Anything else please feel free to ask and will respond if I have the knowledge, if I don't I'll ask others.
I am Mêskwananihsi it is my spirit name it means Red Tail Hawk.

Thank you for sharing. That sounds really cool and very fascinating. Awesome spirit name too. I'm in Pennsylvania and we have a lot of hawks around here. We consider them a sign of good luck when they cross our path or the road (especially when cruising on an Iron Horse :))

I could be wrong, but I don't think vapor can set off the bathroom smoke alarm or anything. Just to be on the safe side, I vape away from it and make sure the cloud dissipates when I open the door! I don't see how they would ever catch me (knock on wood), unless they decided to violate my privacy in a major way!

That's not true so beware. I have a friend who is a flight attendant and people occasionally set them off using spray deodorant in the bathrooms on planes and they will open the door if it goes off... Vaping on all planes I've been on is strictly prohibited. That having been said, I've definitely stealthed on long international flights (very stealth) while in my seat when everyone is sleeping.

Good to know -- thanks for the heads up. Man, you would think it would be in everybody's best interest to have all of the passengers on a flight be as relaxed as possible (i.e. by letting those of us who are addicted to nicotine get our fixes in peace so that we are not fidgety and anxious throughout the flight)!

Maybe I'll just bring some spray deodorant into the bathroom with me so that it can be the "culprit" if and when I do set off the alarm! ;)

I didn't get kicked out (well...nor caught. Good thing too - no chutes on board).

I brought a two-battery box mod onto a flight out of Boston:
Security attendant, motioning at the box mod in the tray: "Can I touch this?" "Sure, yeah" "What is it?" "An e-cigarette" "Oh...ok. Never seen one like that"
and I was through security in a record 5 minutes or something (whatever it was, it sure was fast). No problems returning from Ronald Reagan (DC) either. Juice in the 3-1-1 bag, No issues.

ETA: If you carry batteries, please be sure to have them in a hard case!

If it is ok, I'd like to add one or two things, as learned from my own recent travel.

In addition to separating the battery from your mod, I would suggest a small label applied to it, and then packed in another clear quart sized zip bag - along with any other small electronics you plan to take in your carry on (do not pack your batteries in your check in luggage), including Ipods and the like. Placed appropriately in your carry on, it isn't likely to snag too many questions, if any. Your quart size zip bag of liquids goes on the very top of your carry on, so it can be pulled out quickly and placed separately in a scanning bin at the security checkpoint. Directly underneath your liquids bag, you need to have your spare shoes - if any - that you are taking in your carry on. You do not have to remove them for scanning, but do need to leave your bag open for when it is scanned in case the security folk want to look closer. Yep, your spare shoes will be on top of your change of clean clothes. Then, directly under those spare shoes, have your quart zip bag of small electronics.

Granted I use 808 batteries for the most part and they probably get the least double looks, but if everything is packed carefully with consideration for the security folks, there is much less chance of anyone getting suspicious of your gear. I traveled with two pcc's, 2 carry cases with 4 808's each, and two different usb/wall adapter charging units without any problem at all, packed in the quart bag along with my Nano and a hand held game. What really surprised me, though, was that I accidentally got myself into the line for the big personal nuke scanner (no one waiting in line should have tipped me off), and rather than collect everything up and go get in a different line, I went ahead and took my radiation dose - and I had an 808 in my front jeans pocket that I'd been using in the airport terminal to stealth vape and use in the restrooms. I just forgot it was in my pocket. And, no one said a word. No pat down, no sideways glance, just a "have a good flight," and I was on my way. As near as I could see, no one was concerned for my small electronics bag, either. (I wouldn't recommend the pocket pv as practice, though.)

I've vaped on quiet a few flights now ::oops:: usually sitting next to my Hubby but a few times while pinned in between two snoring strangers. When no one is looking I put my sweater over me, up to the chin where I have my Reo Grand cupped in my hands underneath. I'll Take a nice long drag and hold as long as I can, and then blow with force out under the sweater. I always have the fan blowing straight down too. So far so good. :)
