*HUGE HUGS* for Morri!! :(

oh, I just realized how silly this all must seem. It is not the need for a new computer. That is a given. It is the fact that I have a million notes and all kinds of crazy stuff that I need.... documents, photos, and just...... my whole life that I cannot get to. grrrr

that is what I want and am frustrated that I cannot get. passwords and my facebook is gone because I cannot get it. geeze. I am just so stupid.... the meds take my mind, so my mind is recorded on my computer and now my computer is trashed, so my mind is really gone. oh dear oh dear. I need to just start writing things down for real.

Morri dear see if someone can retrieve everything and store it on an external drive for when you get your new computer. There has to be a way!!

Morri, due to computer issues I have learned to save all notes and passwords in my email (drafts file) I have been there done that too many times...you may wish to do the same...I can search that file and find most everything from any computer that way. Retrieval can be expensive and cloud storage is out of budget for me for sure, but yahoo has no limits (I have 6000+ items notes, pics, files ect in there right now)

Morri, sweet Morri, you're NOT stupid. I think you know this, but you're frustrated...so i'll forgive you for calling my friend stupid.Okay? Just this time though..... I really do get it though (not the stupid part) but the frustration. When I was unable to really leave the house, my computer meant a lot to me. It still does, because I keep all of you lovely people in it. (monkey get OFF the hard drive). When my computer was toast, I was horrified and did indeed cry like a little girl. So, ya know, don't feel bad if you gotta let it out. There is a very good chance that the files on your hard drive can be saved, so have hope. And remember...we love you!

ok guys, I am back because I can't sleep and I am hurting and so so tired or researching. I am just about to give up but thinking hey my friends are so damned smart.... they might know the secret.

I already know that I need a new computer...... that is a given. The problem i am facing is the meds have taken my mind, so I have a million notes, documents, photos, pics, etc etc etc on my computer that is now locked behind a stupid screen that I cannot get into... along with passwords, all kind of things that i desperately need to get to so I can make a record.

I was trying to fix the photo card reader thingy on my old hp computer. It is...... Hp pavillion elite m9150fpc

I went to the easy help HP site and downloaded their wonderful helpful driver, installed and restarted my computer. Up until that time, everything else was just fine except sometimes the computer would fail to start due to faulty fan. I have since opened up the box and cleaned the fan and it no longer fails.

But what I have now and have had since is this very bright blue splash screen that has HP with a green hand and some little pictures of blocks and cards and things and....... options like F10 to setup esc to boot several other things, all of which do absolutely NOTHING.

I have tried every keystroke........ stabbing f8, f1, del, etc etc etc while restarting, cold starting etc. to no avail. The cd rom will not read. No thing will work at all.

Anybody have any ideas at all.

love you guys. going to try to go to sleep again.

huggles,
Morri

While the computer is starting up, try pressing the f2 or del button. So, turn on your computer and immediately hold down one of those. If my memory serves me correct, you should be able to get into the ROM. Once in there, see if there is a section to change the boot order of your drives, and select your CD rom as #1. I'm sure you got some sort of CDs or DVDs with your computer. If there is one that says Rescue Disc, put that in there, then exit and save your ROM.

Since I have no idea how HP has their ROM setup, this is all the help I can provide. If you can't even get into the ROM, then I'm at a loss.

I'm so sorry about your computer morri.

Depending on how old her HP is , there may have been no disks. My last HP had a 'recovery drive.'

I have tried different versions of this, but will try this again and yes what River said next but I ordered cd's. I need cd's. So in spite of the tech's total frustration I insisted on having the actual physical set of cd's. not that it will do me any good if I can't get the cd rom to read. ack. let me try again.

Morri, sorry your having to go through this with your computer. *hugs* I was just without my own laptop for 3 weeks while it was in the shop getting the system board and AC adapter connector replaced... they had to wait for parts that weren't in stock so it took that long! :(

I second all the suggestions about getting it to a shop where they can salvage the contents of the hard drive for you. Heck since its a desktop you could just remove that drive yourself and install it as a secondary in the new system or Eddy's (or get one of those external drive enclosures that plug in via USB) so you can retrieve your data yourself... you don't need to be able to boot the OS to access the data that way assuming the drive hasn't gone bad. (In which case a shop that can handle the data retrieval is your best bet.)

One thing I'd strongly recommend when you get back up and running is to keep all your passwords and other info in a secure app like KeePass. There are even Android versions of that app which will run on your Kindle Fire and keep the data in sync in both places. I use it myself.

Additionally a cloud backup service (I prefer Crash Plan) can be invaluable in retrieving your data in events such as these. While my laptop was gone, I used the Crash Plan web interface several times from my tablet and Mike's laptop to get at the data I needed. In both cases, having stuff stored in the cloud (with military grade encryption) has proven invaluable to me in accessing my laptop data even when the lappy's not here.

In closing, I also wanted to remind you, since I don't believe you saw it in the NT thread, that the Kindle Fire I sent you does have a full web browser... so you can still visit ECF even if you can't use Eddy's computer. You could even install the free Tapatalk app (available in the Amazon App Store) for an even more simplified interface better optimized for smartphones and tablets. Small consolation I know but just know it's there... and you can use it to access your cloud stored data if your running apps like Crash Plan (for backup) and KeePass (for secure password storage). I could even email you the apk (install file) for Boat Browser which will also work fine on that 1st Generation Fire you have.

Of all the apps I mentioned, all are free. Crash Plan has a fee (yearly or monthly) only if you want to back up to their servers (recommended) but if you want to just back up to a friend's remote computer, or separate cloud storage you have available, it doesn't cost anything extra.

Morri, if you're only saving pictures, notes, text files, spreadsheets, etc to jog your memory, try Google Drive in the future. It's what I use for the same and I love it!!! If you have a Google account (I use my Gmail almost exclusively), you get 15GB for FREE. You can download the Google drive program to your desktop, and just drag all your notes into there. What's best is that, if you have a smartphone or tablet, you can access and/or edit that data from anywhere!

I know that doesn't help with all your precious info right now, but maybe it would help for the future. Really really hoping they can save and retrieve your data for you. I know that feeling of having your whole brain in your computer or phone. I do that too. I know a lot of tech security people hate it, but I love love LOVE the new cloud features.

Kind of sounds like your computer is not booting up the right drive when it starts, usually that's the C drive. I've used an app called "Teamviewer 8" TeamViewer - TeamViewer 8 final (for Windows and Mac) to help other peeps get their computer on track or walk them through apps, but that only works if you can bring up your internet connection. It's free. And if someone is a bit more tech savy than me, it's worth getting someone to check it out. :2c:
