It's a cone shaped plug for filling the tank. Wedges in and can be pulled out with a fingernail.

I've seen many variations of mounting the kanthal in raidy's designs, I dont think there was one with solder though. This one with the screws though is done for easy replacement. tighten in the bottom screw, wrap 3 times and tighten into the other screw. I suppose that means easier the very 1st time too, lol.

Raidy,
It took me two days but I have finally made it through all 190 pages over at the German forum. I admire you work even more now.

I also have a question about the above picture. Is there something around the wick? It doesn't appear to be just stainless steel mesh, looks like it's wrapped in something else?

I don't like solder in a atty! Chinese do that, i do not. Do you know, whats inside the solder?
And its much more easy to change the kanthal.

Now let me write with errors in grammtic and words:

The problem with FDA an German "Gesundheitsamt"
The FDA and the German "Gesundheitsamt (health office)" claim they have found in the steam toxins.
Why? What are the reasons?
1) Questionable materials in the Chinese atty's
2) Uncontrolable temperatures on evaporation.
3) Liquid overheating and burnt fibers.
Not so with genisis!
1) Stainless steel is a "healthy" material. Everyone uses it in the kitchen when he grills a steak at 250 degrees.
2) stainless steel pipes from the heat and therefore does not overheat.
3) Stainless steel produces no toxins.
One can think about the genisis of what you will, it is definitely the "healthier" atty.
They may be the FDA and the German "Gesunheitsamt" the teeth hard nut.

The problem is not the system of electronic smoking, the problem is the way, how this is produced.

Now that a lot of spelling mistakes in it, but whatever.

What temperature is on the khantal wire in Genesis? And how you regulated it?

Difficult to say so exactly. He never burns. The thermal conductivity of stainless steel is several times as high as that of glass fiber. And the thermal conductifity ist the most imortant paramter to controll the temperature. An infrared measurement showed about 220-240 degrees. But this measurement could'nt be very correct.
The regulation is:
1) The thermal conductifity
2) My special pulse electronic. Start with 100% power an goes down every 10ms for x %.

I believe it's just the mesh after oxidation treatment. The 400 mesh is very fine and almost like fabric - you can't see any squares at all; really neat stuff.

I was just playing around with the solder to do some quick testing. but I quickly gave up on that idea. and drilled and tapped a pair of 3mm screw into some blank circuit board. I am just goofing around with the wire to get a feel for it. It does kink easy and that would look bad. But I have found an easy way to wrap the wire so that it looks good too. I have some 1.25mm syringe needles for filling ink cartridges. Threading the wire down through the needle and wrapping around what ever size you want makes it easy and good looking. You can use the end of the needle like a pencil. Here is a pic of a 1mm O.D. wrap. I don't think it's too bad looking. I wasn't trying to get any given resistance, just make a good looking wrap.
