Raidy, Ive been thinking about using soder wick for this very same purpose. It looks like a flat braided copper strand but when you look closely it can actually be opened up in a cylindrical shape.
It should also be possible to oxidise the copper with a high heat butane flame to form a 2CuO layer. Off course it is much easier if the braided wick is already in a conical shape - and it wicks perfectly! Busy oxidising one right now.....

Might work but early on raidy mentioned the "benefits" of stainless steel most being that it is already heavily used in the food industry and especially for high temp (grills) environments.
I don't know what or how copper might react to the temp and juice.

I'm not so sure about that,,, Not that you may not get it to work but if it is something that you would want to inhale. Back in the day I use to build a lot of pipes for smoking (never mind what) there were some materials that was just considered taboo. And that was one of them. OK for smoking through was glass, brass, stainless steel, and alum. (well apples were OK too) but NEVER copper.

I was having a hell of a time finding 400 mesh, I found 250, 325, and 500, but following a lead for silica rope I ran across http://www.mcmaster.com/nav/enter.asp?partnum=92405T17&pagenum=391 It's not cheap, but I like the idea of being able to try all different sizes of mesh.
Wohooo, my Kanthal and mesh should be here next week, I dusted off my mill last night(one of these days I'll put a cnc kit on it lol), I'm ready to go

Moses,, (I mean Raidy) is leading us to the promised land, and I know I have pestered him here with more questions than anyone else has but, it is only so we can find a way to get rid of those damn cartridges. Stock filler, blue foam, fluvial, straw mods, spring mods, tea bag mods, And dripping is a pain too. There wouldn't be so many cart mods if they worked the way we want then to. I have asked a ton of questions to be sure that we get the correct parts to make this work. I think that by the time Raidy gets back from holiday a few of us will have some working attys, then we can learn about his voltage control. That may be a key part to this concept.

, an extremely toxic compound.Although your idea is good in principle. I'm seaching for that in stainless steel since a long time.

Take the 325 for "strong throat hit" or the 500 for "vapour king"

The copper is on the outside of the pan not the inside. and it conducts heat well.
a water pipe is also made from copper, but not on open oxygen and much other chemicals like PG VG water, nitrate(from air). The problem is not the element copper, the problem is the possible reaction to C4H6CuO4, which is realy dangerous.
Best solution: forgett it!
Raidy, do you think the wick would give off mg's instead of µg's? Unless you eat the wick I'm sure it could actually beautify the skin a bit..... lol

Maybe you are right. Better search for a S/S 304 or 316 material..... The oxidised Cu tube is coming along very nicely though.....
