Well indeed they do. The tradeoff would be price though as a 12"x12" piece of 316 SS #325 is $29, haven't bothered to check shipping rates.

Will, the research sounds good, the only thing you are missing in the equation is surface tension, which keeps the juice sticking to wick-like things, and not just floating away. That's probably going to make vaping in space a bit difficult ;)

PS: Happy travels Raidy, have a great vacation!

Well, the intermolecular forces cause the surface tension. They also cause the fluid to climb, or decend, the wick (depends on fluid).

But, i still dont know what happens if you expect 20mm of fluid hight in the capillary... but only have a capillary 10mm tall... what happens? Does the fluid go everywhere? Does the fluid rize, and stop at the top of the capillary?

Will, it will stop at the top of the 10mm S/S wick. There is nothing to carry the fluid further. Don't worry about flooding the chamber - it won't happen. If it did, it would be the first "real" perpetual motion pump in action! It has been tried, tested and failed many times before. Just make it!

Hi guys, I just ordered my supplies and I'm a little worried. I have very little of the proper equipment and know how to fabricate from scratch. Has anyone found a good source of of materials to build the atty reservoir with minimal machining required? I was thinking of maybe using a pill fob:

2 Stainless Steel Waterproof Pill Fobs w/ Key Chain - eBay (item 330492482389 end time Nov-10-10 13:31:12 PST)

I was hoping someone out there has some better ideas as I feel my overall chances of getting past the making steam at my desk stage are slim. I figure having a clear window might be a little too fancy right now.

this one has two chambers to possible continue the tube. but it is expensive and out of stock anyways.

Why not just use a glass bottle and make the top to go on it? run the wires on the outside to test things.

Wouldn't space (weightlessness) be the perfect environment for wicks/wicking? It's the molecular attraction. That wouldn't change in space and it wouldn't have to work against gravity.

Dear vapours,

now its time to go!
I'm on vacation until end of month and have no internet access at my way. I hope, i could get you enough information to make your first own prototypes of genisis atty. When i'm back i open part2 with the theory of "how it works". It was a hard year of work an i need this vacation very urgently.
Please modders: Keep this thread alive for this time. Give good experience and ideas to the other modders.
asdaq: You are allowed to copy pictures from the german forum into this thread, if this helps the modders.

I hope I could bring you forward with my ideas and tips slightly. Your positive feedback has pleasantly surprised me.

Greetings and always much good vapour and Ahoi!
your Raidy:)

There is no reason it couldn't work, and a clear window will have no impact on performance. But you will still need a 'disc' of some sort that fits into your fob tightly (leak proof, o-ring?) to hang your terminals, mesh, wire etc, that can take a bit of heat and is relatively safe and stable.

Hehe, i supose your right! When you say it that way, I'm a little ashamed that I didnt answer my own question now.

Thank you.

At least i know that it is best to roll my mesh so i can expect just a little more hight than a near empty container without making a mess.

The disc could be the top or bottom of pill fob, and would work quite well to hold the parts as they are quite thick. But then you still need a cover/ mouthpiece that can take the heat (another tube perhaps). Stainless steel would be nice, but alu would be easier to work with/ drill holes in.

Quick1, I guess I was thinking of more watery liquids dissipating in space, still I doubt they'll allow it :p

That reminds me... I've got one of these laying around somewhere: Amazon.com: Zippo Fuel Canister: Sports & Outdoors

It's got an inner, sealed lid with a spout for refilling a lighter, and an outer threaded lid. Now where did I put that thing...

Note: it's bin a while since I've smoked, and a lot longer since I've seen that thing, so don't take my word for how its set up. I'm trying to remember...

edit2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXt4xHM4Kq0 Yep... I've got to find this thing.
