Is there any reason not to oxidize the entire mesh wick? I am thinking of using bare wire or rod in the tank for the electrical connections. If the kanthal is not firmly fixed this would keep it from shorting if it gets up against the positive wire/rod.

Would this effect wicking? It seems to wick with the top portion oxidized right?

First off, excellent masterpieces, vaping Rolls Royces. This is what we all have been waiting for.
Nice to actually be able to control your own vaping experiences and not rely on a Chinese standard.
I am from Thailand and was wondering what weave to get the mesh in.
I have found a local manufacturer. Can anybody confirm if this ::: Thai Prasit Co.,Ltd. ::: is the correct mesh.
I will be getting 300, 325, and 400 to play with. This is the Twill weave
Thanks for your help.

Whole weekend I've been reading this thread, from the beginning. Congrats to Raidy and Pailpoe and to everybody else who tries to implement their innovative ideas.
I have the sense that history is written here.
It seems like, soon, a cheap, HQ atty (regarding vapor and taste) with a huge lifespan will be available to the end users.

It's just a prototype of the ato and not the final product. I work on the board at this moment with a power regulation with current/voltage mesurement and PWM control. I also ad a pressure sensor for Automatic mod with proportionnal power.
The power is constant and can be adjust beetween 8w and 20w (it's enormous ).
For me, 14w it's the mawimum power for my body.:2cool:
I expect to finish on the middle of january.

EDIT : The switch is just for developpment, I use a capacitive touch after .

Just finished my first genisis. I used 400 mesh and 36 gauge kanthal D with 32ohms/foot. It produces vapor but it is very airy. I haven't checked the resistance as my meter has a dead battery. Perhaps I need to make the coil shorter? It works but probably at half the vapor thickness of a 2.5 ohm E2 carto. Any suggestions?

I think you should try it shorter. (actually I think you should replace the battery in your meter :)

The recommended kanthal sizes were 0.20mm and 0.16mm? And you are using 0.13mm? You're getting a higher resistance and lower heat using the smaller wire right?

The resistance is 32.4 ohms per foot. So 1 inch would give 2.7ohms or so. The thickness is .005" or .127mm. I may need to get some diff kanthal. I'll try to get a picture up. It is my first attempt so I'll keep tinkering. I'll try taking a loop out to shorten it and see what happens.

Ok with the coil shortened It is performing much better. Now I have to get the mesh to wick better. I have a 2 mm od 400 mesh. After 2-4 drags it will dry up and get red at the ends of the coil burning juice and bad taste. Read earlier rolling a smaller tube and putting it through the larger one will help?

I do like that and it help.

I had the same problem and I fixed it. the coil ends must to be oxidized too and sometimes takes more time, see the JensB video it will help you, is an oxidization problem 100%. The coil must be completely tight, and the mesh of 2mm OD is OK, dont try less OD, look my last post here, may be help you: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...me-homemade-attys-genesis-32.html#post2314294

And keep trying. Is the key, test and test and test.

Not sure I agree with that. The coil glows because it reaches a certain temperature. The coil generates the same energy along its entire length. The reason the ends glow is that there is no juice there to provide cooling by being vaporized. If you are oxidising the ends of your coil wire to prevent glowing I suspect that its only cosmetic and you aren't significantly changing anything other than what it looks like. (I suppose if the oxidation was more conductive than the wire it could have a skin effect and lower the resistance along that portion but I doubt it).
