I have my account with my bank set up so I receive an email when my card is used for an online or phone charge. That way I can see if charges to my card are ones I made without logging on to check my account constantly. Last night, I was notified of a $1.00 online purchase that wasn't made by me. I immediately called the bank's 24/7 service line and told them about it. New card arriving in 7-10 days and that card closed. A claim has been filed and the bank will be on the lookout for any more charges that try to come through for that card. The representative at the bank repeated what others have said on here--often criminals will try putting through a one dollar charge first to see if it goes through and once it does, they run up the big charges.

The only places I ordered from in the last few weeks using that card are gotvapes, litecigsUSA and Mt. Baker Vapor, although I did order from AVE a couple of months ago. I've never ordered from ecigexpress, which is one of the other companies members seem to be pinpointing.

The bank is setting me up with what they call a secure card. I'll be able to go to my account online and transfer only what I need from my main account onto the card to cover online purchases.

May those who use fraud to steal what others have earned instead of finding a legal way to earn their own money rot in hell.

Sorry to hear this has happened to you.
Online shopping is starting to make me paranoid, with good reason.
I guess I'm gonna have to start shopping at local vape places.
I hate to do that because the prices online are so much better, but, well.......dang it already!
Hell rot is right.

Shopping in a B&M is no safer. Your card can can be snagged from anywhere.

Before you enter credit card number in any site check you browers address/ It should have changed prior to payment information to HTTPS: without the S a straight HTTP is a no go and easy to gave your credit card...

Does anyone know if happyesmoker is on the list? I haven't received any fraudulent charges or anything, but I just wanna make sure. o_O

I haven't seen that name mentioned. I don't believe there is a list per se. The only thing really to do is to keep a closer track of your CC transactions. This does go beyond ecig type purchases, we just happen to have a forum. If there were forums for all things in life, I'm sure those threads would have similar stories.

The way I understand it, it's not just vape vendors. Several major charge card companies have had compromises. It seems to be happening alot.
The "ShopSafe" I had been using is still "unavailable" on my Bank of America site.
.... I need to look into the "secure card" now.

I'm curious as to what people are using to fund their vaping transactions. Myself, I have been using a Bank of America debit card.

Stinks, doesn't it? The thing that really burns my biscuits is if you are good enough with computers to hack in and get credit card numbers, you are probably good enough to make a legitimate living working with computers, if you had a conscience. Or any morals. Or any sense of decency.

I'm sorry this happened to you and your wife. I'm glad they caught it quickly and you'll get your money back. Even so, it makes you feel violated, doesn't it?

Check your CC company to see if they offer virtual CC numbers.

BOA has "ShopSafe" which allows me to get a virtual CC number which I use online or over the phone. This has a single vendor restriction so if the card is used at company "A", and some one tries to use it at company "B" through "Z" it won't go through even if it's for $1.00.
You can also set an upper $ limit and up to 12 months expiration date. You can even cancel the number whenever you want to. Basically you are your own mini CC company with complete control over the virtual CC number without affecting your regular CC number/account at all.

And... It's free.

please be careful about having a "list" of companies you have purchased from that have had purchasing issues like this. its a terrible thing to go through (its happened to me a few yrs ago also). this can happen just about anywhere , online or not and a list may cause customers to stop purchasing from a good company. most of the places we purchase from online for vaping supplies are very small . a large loss of customers could put them out of business. if you know specifically that you card was compromised through their system, let them know before posting their names. if you give them a chance to get fix the problem it wony cost them a loss in business.

my hubbys acct was compromised. usbank immediately locked the acct before we even saw the $1 charge. but outs wasnt online. it was at a restaurant. someone had an infrared reader that read our card info as it was being swiped. the only way to limit the problems is by checking your online acct often and reporting anything suspicious if you bank doesnt catch it first.

Another thing that's so irritating about it is because credit card companies have to be so vigilant about possible fraud, sometimes when you try to use your own credit card, it gets denied. Several times I have been out shopping, knowing that my credit card bill was paid, only to have it denied at the cash register. When I call the CC company, they say, "We were just being cautious since there has been a lot of activity on that card." Then they proceed to ask me if I made this purchase and that purchase and when I say yes, they say, "Okay, the hold has been taken off your card." Fat lot of good that does me because I've already been embarrassed by having my card declined, have left the store to call them and now have to go back and do the shopping and standing in line all over again. But if they didn't do it, I'd be blaming them for letting fraud slip by.

That's why I was careful to say that I hadn't shopped at ecigexpress since the other thread about CC fraud has a lot of people saying they purchased through them. I haven't. I have no idea where they got my number. It could have been the grocery store for all I know. It is strange that so many vapers are getting hit all at the same time, but it won't stop me from ordering from my favorite vendors online. I'm not giving up my Mt Baker Vapor Butterscotch no matter how many lowlifes hack the system.

There is no real way to protect yourself from credit card theft. About a year ago we had some issues. 2 separate credit card had charges all over the U.S in a matter of hours. We had not made any online purchases in the same place with either card. Nothing made any sense. We actually were thinking some had stolen our identity at one point. We could not figure out a common thread anywhere. One card had been used only 3 times in the last year. Credit card companies would or could not give us any info. About 2 weeks later the News broke a story that someone had hacked some server and stolen thousands of credit card numbers.

The best insurance is your credit card company. We were never charged for the charges. They caught the charges almost immediately.

Yeah, it happened to me a couple months ago with my bank check card. The bank caught it and sent me a new card, but it was a local store where the card was compromised.

A few years ago, it was readers being stuck in the swipe deal at the gas pumps. Now people can walk past you and read certain types of credit cards via little efdi(?) reader thingies in backpacks or purses.

I usually use my paypal account for online shopping, but can't for vape, so I use a cc that I can keep an eye on and if anything goes wrong, it won't kill my bank balance while I get it worked out. 99.9% of the time it is not the stores fault. People get hacked all kinds of ways now - unfortunately - the turds stealing can find ways around all of the security measures taken.
