There are a few threads about this, AVE is in common, although it really has nothing to do with them, but their and many others sites may at times be compromised, or your pc or MANY other things. Sometimes it is even the credit card processing part such as Authorize.net that has been compromised. It is important to make sure you do have ssl page up, and although so far fingers crossed I have avoided this, I now use a prepaid sort of card. Actually what I have been doing is deciding about how much I want to spend and putting that on a Walmart Visa gift card. Costs $4 to load $25-$500 on one. You then go register it online, only having to provide the name and address in which you are buying under. They have to match in order for the payment to go through. Then if any money is left over on the card you can use it anywhere as long as they run it as credit, such as walmart, grocery whatever. When all money is gone, toss it in the trash, it's not reloadable. I'm talking about Visa GIFT cards UNRELOADABLE. These have no fees other than the loading fee and do not require a SS #. I have used this method at at least 8 different online stores with no issues. I am sure there are many other options as well. Very sorry to hear of your misfortune experience. I HATE theives.

Most online stores use a credit card processing company, they don't even have your information stored locally. "Pinpointing" companies might cause a lot of business damage as once it's fixed people are still wary, even though it wasn't them directly.

I'd recommend learning the basics of Internet purchasing security and protect yourselves. I've used AVE many times in the past with no problems.

For on-line purchases I use a debit card with no overdraft protection or auto pay features at all. Transaction are denied if funds are not in the account. Before I make a purchase I move whatever funds I need into the account. If the number was hit they'd get maybe $10.00.

For B&M I use cash. Wonder how many people still use cash? For car rentals and anything that requires a credit card I use a credit card with small limit. I think it's about $1000.00.

I'm curious as to what people are using to fund their vaping transactions. Myself, I have been using a Bank of America debit card.

i hadnt read the other post about this subject before i posted about not naming the vaping supply companies that this may have happened to. im not a vendor and havent been on this forum long but some of the posts in the other thread upset me. ppl asking for the names of those vendors and saying that it doesnt do us (as customers) any good not to know who they are.

threads like this WITHOUT listing the vendors is the way to go. it alerts ppl to watch their own accts and remind us that this can and will happen to any one at any time... vendor and customer. theres no reason to place blame here. we are all vulnerable because we have cards and criminals will do what they can to steal from us and the vendors. i could see posting a vendor name if the company responded back with "we dont care if its our website or accounting system. we arent going to look into it. its your card and your responsibility"

i dont know about any of you, but i havent ordered from even one vendor that would respond to a concerned customer that way, with a legitimate concern and a non-threatening attitutude from the customer.

my mom got snagged at a restaurant, my friend at a gas station....
the friend...we were on our way to laughlin, stopped for gas...within an hour and a half...stopped for food and she was already wiped out by a purchase an hour in the opposite direction of the original gas purchase...then one of the other girls on the trip got snagged at a store/restaurant IN laughlin....all between friday 9pm - sunday noon.
both of these girls worked at BofA and had BofA accounts...i wonder if BofA is easier to snatch?

I've heard gas station at the pump swipes are really common.
i was a leary of my recent purchases and have been obsessively checking for oddities...like the $1 "authorization" charge.

so sad that this is our world. effers!

I had a $30.00 charge to my debit card for "seniormeet.com" I know, I know, I can't get enough of my old ladies. No but really, The only places I order from are AVE, Avid Vaper, and Fuzion Vapor. Not sure if it has been compromised through one of these, but I've also used it on places like Zappos and Amazon. But in the end my bank (been there for 10 years) returned my money and gave me a new card for free. Now I only add money to it before I make a purchase, and only the amount I need for a purchase.

Relax, folks. I'm a full fledged identity theft victim. My CC was compromised last Thanksgiving. Someone hacked into my bank account and tried to pay themselves a few grand. I've received bills from websites I've never heard of. I had a credit card with a $600 line of credit opened in my name.

Don't get me wrong, it's a major hassle and I'd string up the crooks if I could find them (after drawing and quartering them). So far, I haven't personally lost a cent. Lost time and aggravation, yes, but I haven't lost a cent.

I have no idea how my data was compromised. I suspect a rogue bank employee somewhere. Your data can be stolen anywhere. Even if you swipe the card yourself at a gas pump, that information travels to a computer somewhere and could be compromised. Just because you buy vape gear online doesn't mean that's where you were compromised.

The bottom line is that you are highly unlikely to lose any money. In every case, all I've had to say is "fraud" and it's handled immediately. It's a bit of a hassle filling out all of the fraud affidavits but no money is gone.

LOL @ not getting enough of the old ladies!
But, yeah...
I have a prepaid card and just add money as I need to.

One must remember that just because a fraudulent charge comes through online, it does not mean the data was acquired that way.

You could just as easily have been double swiped by some checkout attendant.

If your'e worried about this kind of thing many banks that issue debit cards can also issue single use numbers for online shopping that work only once.

That's what the bank told me. They said the card could have been used somewhere months ago and the crooks just sit back and wait for the right time. So far my I'm on my 4th bank debit card and my 2nd readycard{prepaid}. As a retired person I tend to plan my purchases for the next mo and I think from now on I will go to walmart and buy a card for the exact amount of what I want to buy. At least it will curb my impulse buying.

I usually order my vaping supplies and juices monthly. In the past three years, I have had fraudulent charges appearing on my BOA debit card twice. Since I usually order on one day and from multiple vendors, it's really difficult to track down an offending vaping site. BOA has always been helpful though to rectify the situation but it is aggravating. I now use a prepaid card exclusively for my vaping stuff.

Does anyone know if happyesmoker is on the list? I haven't received any fraudulent charges or anything, but I just wanna make sure. o_O

If you check the bottom of happyesmoker site and many other site you will see an SSL security badge. Ours we use GeoTrust which adds the HTTPS and encrypts your card info when sent to payment processors. Most sites should have that if it doesnt have any security you should always be careful.
