I've been submerged into the world of RBAs and cloud chasing. I've stuck to my guns and still use carto tanks. I've run into kids half my age who think they know all there is to know about vaping because someone built them a sub-ohm coil and they can chuck clouds. I just laugh and oblige them. I like a simple regulated mod with a carto tank. Meanwhile, ignorant noobs who never smoked cigarettes (never smoked cigarettes, mind you) and want to cloud chase end up with mech mods and unbuilt RDAs in their hand, often times passed down from their friends, and they attempt to chase clouds. With hilarious results.

Always young men in their late teens, early twenties. Never anyone any older. Case in point, a B&M that builds coils for people built a .02 ohm (yes, not a typo) for a 110% complete noob, an 18 year old, and he took it to a party. They gave him zero instruction on battery safety and Ohm's law (ain't nobody got time for Ohm's law and battery safety). He tried to use it and forgot to add juice and the cotton caught fire and singed his face. This, friends, this is what our vaping community is turning into.

I have been vaping for 15 months and have followed the normal progression with it. I tried all different kinds of tanks but the Kayfun seems to be what I like. I now have 8 of them and have gotten rid of everything else. Don't plan to upgrade to a V4 as I am happy with what I have. I build my own coils and have no interest in sub-ohming. I tried it once and I could not see the point. I stick to 1.1-1.4 ohms at anything between 11-15 watts so I maintain between 4.1-4.2 volts. Gives me good flavor and keeps me off the cigarettes.

Actually that was the Declaration. If the Constitution said that, we might have fewer busybodies trying to control how others live.

Ne'er stop learning... cut me some slack willya :) ?

Not hailing from the USofA most of my knowldeg derives from Western movies and playing the Fallout series...
jes like lotsa US folk seem to get their info from WWII B-movies ;)

Hey Jode since you already spent your hard earned cash.. maybe try this.. when i went to sub ohms i had to cut my nic level way down.. I went from a 18mg to a 3mg.. should help with the coughing..

I have been using 3mg but still have a hard time. I am not going to fuss over the cash spent. After reading some of the thoughts here I did put the higher (think it is 1.2 ohm, although I am getting a 1.1 read right now) prebuilt coil in the sub Kanger and like it much better. I spoke with my local vape shop (Great guys in there) and so I know they carry the 1.2 heads as well as the .5's. I know I can order online but I am a strong advocate for supporting your local shops as much as one can. When this coil is spent I think I will try the built coils and try it as a RBA. I know I will find the sweet spot with it, I guess I was just getting frustrated that I was not finding what others rave about with the prebuilt .5 heads. I am also tempted to try vaping 0 nic and at least eliminating that as a factor. It may just be a matter of finding a juice that suits this lower build for me.

Whenever I am in a position to help a person looking to get into vaping, I try to let them know that this can be an adventure that is quite different from smoking. That there is a bit of trial and error with equipment, juice needs and style of vaping and to not get frustrated if one thing doesn't work well for them. I just need to take my own advice and not get frustrated.

This is Freakin Scary!!! I am very pleased that the local vape shop I frequent does take the time to educate new vapers on safety. I agree with you that there are so many young'uns (seen some oldies too) that think they know all like usual and do not take a moment to learn about safety with these incredibly low builds. We worry about getting shut down by the FDA and this is a good way to get that done.

I think my progression has been pretty typical, over the last year and a half.
Cigalikes
Egos with Kanger tanks
MVPs with Nautilus
VV/VW mods using 10 amp batts
Mech mods / Atlantis / 35 amp batts
I have really enjoyed the ride. As opposed to just buying a pack of smokes, with all the associated guilt, I have been able to learn and discover.
It's been a new hobby, and I've still saved money. Whatever level I've been at, I've enjoyed it.
Going back appears to be an issue, however, for me. Vaping a Nautilus at 12w just won't cut it anymore.
But, I have a buddy who stopped with an MVP and a 30s...and it works for him.
Personally, I think it's about enjoying yourself, and not smoking.

i like things simple. that's way i went mech mod and RDA/RTA to start. so far, it has not let me down. just build coil, change wich and charge the battery.

I guess I really chose the wrong words. I do not think mech mods and coil building are difficult once you know the safe guidelines. I was commenting more on my innate need to try the newest thing (prebuilt sub coils) only to find I prefer my tried and true methods work best for me. I chose the words simpler vape because I was thinking it was like saying simpler times. Does that make sense? I actually do like to tinker so I am not against building coils, it is more the sub ohm thing I think. I am finding I like a cooler vape and wanted to see if I was among many or in the minority.

I have 2 brother-in-laws that dont know the first thing about safety.. I've tried to educate them, unfortuantely you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink, despite alarmist comments like "I guess if you want to blow your hand and face off, keep doing that." Both are on Mechs now, despite my advice. neither have an ohm reader.
One uses Samsung 25r's because that's what a buddy told him to use (the ones that sold him the batteries...). Not a bad battery by any means, but I wouldn't call his friend a reputable source for batteries...
The other uses... "Whatever, as long as it vapes" ... I added to that comment "And doesnt blow your hand and face off..." - he went into a shop and had them build a coil for him, they asked him if he wanted clouds or flavor, he said flavor. They built a .4 ohm coil with 22 or 24 ga... On his tobh+M6 (clones) combo... some times it's just frustrating - but there is only so much you can do....

I do agree that shop should have made more effort to educate (they didnt from the sound of it), but then again, 18yo just expects everything to work and be safe...

I get an MVP2 shortly after I started. I loved it. It took me through the rough times trying to quit cigarettes. I was addicted to buying new stuff and, when all the new equipment came out, I started buying. I have a VTR, ELVT, DNA20, 2-DNA30, IPV1, IPV2 and a Sigelei 100. All of them have their good points and bad. When the MVP20 came out, I bought one. It is identical to the MVP2 other than the chip and 510 connection. It was like meeting up with an old friend but better. It is my go-to APV now. I plan to buy another because it just feels so natural in my hand. Was going to wait on the MVP3 but I don't need anything over 20 watts. I am hoping that I am finally over buying new stuff!!!!!!

If it were me, I'd probably wait for the 3 instead of bying another 20w.. but I havent looked at the featureset of the 3. It seems like the MVP1/2 style could do with some sleeker lines and the screen and functions are a bit counter intuitive at first IMO. But - to each their own: It's your money and your vape!

The MVP3 will be bigger and heavier. I got a Sigelei 100 and it is a really nice box but it is huge and heavy. I only use it in the house. Too big to take with you. I think that is why the smaller units are gaining popularity. Big sounds good until you have to drag it around with you. The key is to find something that feels good in your hand, has the right weight for you and has enough power for your use. You don't need anymore than that.

As to the MVP20 screen, I set it to 15watts and very rarely touch it. I have every atty marked as to its ohms and I can work out the volts and amps in my head. When the light turns to yellow, I know I am going to have to recharge in a while but not right away. I also always carry 2 boxes and 2 attys just in case something goes wrong. You need to be prepared.

If you have no backup... traditional tobacco is your backup :)
I carry a Reo Grand with me - when the juice bottle empties (6ml) I swap batteries.
If I'm leaving the house for any period of time (>2hrs) I usually bring and extra battery, extra juice, and my stealth setup (4nine in 18350 with kayfun lite plus - clones) an 18350 will make it through a tank or more on my kayfun the way I have it built. Good for a flavor change and if anything happens to the reo (unlikely).
if gone for more than a day I carry an "emergency rebuild kit' - drillbits, wire, tweesers, nail clippers, wire, precut wicks, small screwdrivers - packed tightly in an altoid can. I usually grab my hana clone too, just incase :)
There is prepared and then there is paranoid.. I caution on the paranoid side :)

Gotta say, I'm totally with you about never-smokers and vaping -- if someone has an actual *reason* why they think vaping would be good for them, that's fine... I'm sure there are a LOT of good reasons why never-smokers might want to try "nicotine therapy", or even zero-nic, like for weight/snack control. But "chucking clouds" does not qualify as a "good reason." That's a fad, and it's not a good thing for vaping in general, exactly because those idiots will have some catastrophe, and all the ANTZ will be all "See? SEE???" about it. At least smokers learned which end was hot. :D

This is as much a reflection of "our vaping community" as criminals are a reflection of the NRA.

It does make sense. I vape a simple single 28g coil around 1.5ohm on a mechanical mod. Simple and easy. I too, am a candy@ss.
