@Opinionated - I understand. It takes saying some things a lot of different ways for it to sink in. I was just teasing you a bit. :D

I didn't know.. I don't actually know you as you don't post around here much, so I haven't had time to get to know you and your personality. Sorry.

@Tonee N ??

Chime in here?
I'm awake, I'm awake, put the tazer down[emoji6]
After all the comments I've read there really isn't much to add.
I definitely agree that the BBB tank is too much for starting out and especially with any nic over 6mg.
The 50/50 is great for throat hit and Mint flavor is going to hit harder(my Liquid Nitrogen liquid is 35% flavor 50/50 so it's REALLY strong)
I never thought that I would vape anything but Mint and 50/50 mix(now I use 70/30-80/20 Uniapple, Watermelon Lemonade etc. 70/30 and 80/20 the OP could use in the BBB at a mid range wattage in Hard mode that wouldn't be as harsh since it's lower in PG, but as others have pointed out starting with a MTL tank/coil with higher nic would be a great starting point, will work on the alien, and work up from there.

If you like the smokalien and high volume of vapor, there are things you can do. My first recommendation would be a MTL tank like the N2 (my first MTL tank, I still use one every day) to use your 18 m.g. juice in, for when you have strong cravings. Even if you aren't getting nic overload (and I believe you, given what I remember of your dipping habits) that 50/50 and 18 m.g. may just be too harsh on your throat for now.

You do have the option of either increasing your VG ratio (that should smooth out the throat hit a bit) and using it with your current tank. You may be able to get more visible vape at lower wattages that way, also, and avoid burning out the coil.

You could also try an e-juice using nic salts, they are much smoother and less harsh on the throat, for vaping. I used them early on for that reason (my throat was shot) and since I liked them I use them routinely in my DIY juices. I don't vape any MORE nic than with regular nic, so I don't see a huge reason not to use them. Some formulations are reportedly more rapidly absorbed than regular nic, so you would want to keep an eye out for sx of nic overload, as you may be absorbing more of the nic. Never noticed a huge difference on that, but I am one data point. That may enable you to use your one tank with higher nic, more easily....

I'd still think getting a MTL tank for higher nic juices is not a bad idea. You'll be less likely to get nic overload, and you *may* find you enjoy it more, though not everyone does. Since you started out sub0hming at really low resistance coils, I might think the Nautilus 2 0.7 coil might be just your speed, a bit airier of a vape, but nothing insane-- a bit more cloudy, but still workable as a MTL vape. Just a thought.

Best of luck, and dropping to dipping twice a day is HUGE progress, so don't forget that... :)

My 2 cents, buy 12mg 70-80vg and get a mint cream or cinnamon cereal juice. Keep 18mg to boost new juice as needed. I think you'll be fine with BBB just need different coil. Maybe x4 coil. Hang in there, it can take a while to find a sweet spot.

Coming from a former dual-user (smoking and dipping); I'll say that you are never going to be satisfied until you up your nicotine level. ...significantly. Do not fall for the sub-ohm=lower nic level fallacy. It will lead to you having your drip tip in your mouth constantly, doubling your juice usage and still never being satisfied. Find a setting on whatever hardware you have that gives you adequate flavor and vapor production then up your nic level. As far as throat hit goes; I've been vaping for years and really can't tell you what it means. After dipping for decades there might not be any such animal for me or I wouldn't be able to tell the difference if there was.

Welcome PhatClouds,
I agree with the replies stating the Smok Alien not being the greatest device for a newbe.
Here is my suggestion.
WOW !!!! For under 14 bucks
I got this a week or 2 ago. I Wish this is what I ordered from the start.
This clone is simple to use , gives great flavor, great clouds and the price is unbeatable. Not a single droplet of a leak. Air intake is wide open with no adjustment, ( if needed you can tape over an intake port.) I'll compare the airflow to a Baby Beast, 1/2 open.
Just make sure the coil is screwed down tightly and you'll never have a problem.
The 1650mah battery will last for 200 hits.
I'm thinking this with 12mg. will be satisfying your nic needs at the start. Then back down after 50 or so ml's of juice.

On another note:
I've had the Alien for a few months. At this writing, is not working. ( Lights up. Shows coil ohms. Don't fire up at all.)
I'm in the process of returning it to FastTech. ( With no problems.)
The Smok tanks & coils seem to need high wattage to get a satisfying vape. ( Not very happy with them myself.)
The pen I mentioned above has a .3 ohm coil. No adjustment on the wattage, and I'm not sure what it sends to the coil when battery is charged up. But this little/cheap pen can keep pace with the best on the market.

Gramdogg, I smoke nicsalts, and I wouldn't call it the same "massive spike of nicotine" as cigarettes. Maybe if you are using the actual Juul where they have the e-juice at 50 mg/100ml, but not the way I use them. I notice slightly faster satisfaction sometimes but that's about it. Mainly, I smoke them almost the same as ordinary nic used in e-juice, and I got them for the smoothness, not the rapid onset. Maybe it is slightly faster, but not entirely so. It's still different from a cigarette, I think.

Point taken. At the risk of hijacking this thread, I want to say a couple of things. I joined this forum back when I was a complete newbie at vaping. I used the knowledgeable people here to help me, as many are trying to help @PhatClouds now. I vaped my way along alone for a couple of years until I made myself sick with my first sub-ohm device. I got the help here I needed and again, went on my merry way. I popped back in a month or two ago for help with coil making, wicking, and DIY juice. As I read some posts, I realized that I do have some knowledge and help to give, especially to newcomers, so I decided to stick around and help out when I can. I still ask questions and am grateful to the people who answer. I try to keep it light and friendly because life is hard enough without taking unimportant things seriously. It will be a pleasure to get to know you. Perhaps we can help one another somewhere along the line. :)

Hi. Nice to meet you.

I joined the site after I'd been vaping for a while. I vaped for a year on ego batteries (with ce4 clearos.. lol) and at the one year mark tried to quit vaping, ended up smoking again because I threw my egos away and cigarettes were handy. Took me a couple months but I went and bought ego batteries again and more clearos because that's what I knew, but I really didn't like the clearos much...

That was when I ended up on this site, hoping to find advice on another tank that would be less of a headache.

I've grown a lot since I've come here, learned a lot, and bought a lot.. hahaha. A lot more than just another tank for real.

I've quit vaping again since then for 5 months one time not too long ago, but ended up breaking down and vaping again.. at least that time I didn't end up smoking.

I'm a partial fixture here, as I do have a tendency to come and go somewhat... it is just that we never crossed paths.

It's good your sticking around. You DO have a lot to offer new and old vapers alike. I stuck around this time for that reason also, someone needs to help the newbies, and the people who have vaped for a while have something to offer in knowledge.

Your cool. I'm sure we will get to know each other soon enough. Btw, I am a humorous person, I like to smile and joke and generally have fun.

I've been vaping (on and off.. lol) for well over three years now, you've been vaping longer I think. :)

@Opinionated - thank you for the intro. I really do appreciate it. I am glad you are here and didn't pick up a stinkie again.

I have absolutely no idea why switching from cigarettes to vaping was so easy for me. I know that isn't the norm. I haven't had a cigarette since I got my first kit - a Joyetech e-Cab. I pretty quickly switched to Joyetech eGo Twist batteries and clearos because they were just better for me.

I vaped along on those for quite some time before I bought my first sub-ohm kit - an iTaste MVP 3.0 Pro, almost two years into vaping. After that, it was Innokin Coolfire IV through several iterations of that device. I think the Aliens came next and then I was off to the races to find the perfect mod and the perfect RBAs. That will go on for the foreseeable future. LOL

I know that the switch saved my health and probably my life. Now it has become a hobby and that is where the fun began.

For me it was really getting through those first two weeks. I went through some serious withdrawals though.

It definitely saved my life, beyond a shadow of a doubt. I couldn't breathe by the time I started vaping, couldn't make it to my mailbox without rest breaks, couldn't hardly clean house without feeling like I was dying.

I talked to my doctor about vaping before I bought my first set up and my doctor was all for trying vaping, she was knowledgeable about vaping, and we had tried everything else so she, and all my other doctors, have been very supportive of it.

I can breathe again, it's awesome. :) can't remember a time in my life when I could breathe this well, but then I was a two pack a day smoker for 32 years. My blood pressure is normal and my pain level (unrelated) is also lower.. all in all its been one of the best things I've ever done for my health, and I couldn't be happier.

Some day I'd like to stop vaping, although I don't need to it is personal choice. I figure I got away from one of the worst things I ever did, I'd like to be completely free of all habit. But all things take time, and in my own time ill put it down permanently. Doc doesn't care either way, this one is all me.

My first sub ohm set up was the x cube II with a tvf4.. haha.. you should have been here for my first vape on that! Hilarity definitely ensued! I don't vape sub ohm, technically. I have a provari p3 that is my main go to, I vape 3 mg e juice in that, and for a little higher wattage I have a little 50 watt device that I use 6mg in for that little extra punch from time to time. I'll never change from that I don't think. It's my happy place, my lungs are too damaged to handle anything more.
