I'm about to put in an order with Wizard Labs for my second go at DIY'ing (first time around I got just the very barest of necessities: PG/VG, nic, couple of flavors -- one I liked and one I didn't -- and a few syringes.) Is there anything important I am missing? Here's what's in my cart right now:

Nic (100mg, VG)
PG
VG
Menthol Crystals
Ethyl Maltol Crystals
TFA "Sweetener"
--------------------
CAP Apple Pie
CAP Cinnamon Danish Swirl
CAP Dutch Chocolate Mint
CAP Sweet Strawberry
LA Mint Chocolate Chip
TFA Berry Crunch
TFA Double Chocolate Clear
--------------------
25ml graduated cylinder (for mixing the menthol/EM with PG)
40mm glass funnel
Various bottles (15x 10ml, 5x 30ml and 4x 50ml plastic, 3x 30ml glass for freezer nic) and syringes (combined with my previous order, totalling 3x 1ml, 2x each of 3, 5, 10 and 20ml)

Mostly I'm going for single flavors for now, with a couple options for chocolate-mint (both single-flavor and mixed) and maybe a choc-strawberry mix as well. I've heard that vanillas, creams and custards are often needed to "round out" a flavor...are there any in particular that seem to get used/recommended more than others? There are just so many to choose from and, this being my first "real" venture into DIY, I don't want to just get "one of everything" only to find out that either a: they're all pretty much the same, or b: I only needed/liked a few of them. Any suggestions? Or something else I'm missing? I'm so itching to click the "confirm order" button, but I don't want to leave something out and then have to place another order.

Most mixes are not single flavors. You are missing some creams and vanillas to round out the flavors. Maybe some Acetyl Pyrazine to enhance the bakery\crusty flavors, 1 drop per 10 mls or so.
I love the ones below.

Cap Vanilla custard v1 is a must have
TFA vanilla Swirl
TFA Whipped cream
Cap Marshmallow
Cap French Vanilla
Cap Sweet Cream
FA Fresh Creme

Looks like a great start. I would just go with a 50ml cylinder. The larger cylinder will come in handy when you finish testing and start making larger batches. I have a 10ml, 50ml and 100ml cylinders. When not testing I use my 50 and 100 alot for my large ADV's. There also large enough where you won't need a funnel which I find is more of a hastle to use then anything else. If your going with cylinders I don't think your going to need 10 or 20ml syringes. It's easier to just use the cylinders for measuring out 10ml or larger quantities of fluids.

I am sorry, is it my second language (English) at work, or you really put things upside down?

Huh? Said my time is worth more than the few pennies I would save mixing my own EM solution.

You must be earning a lot.

One of the cheapest juices we can buy: MountBaker, Extreme Ice E juice Baker Vapor, 236 mL, $33.99.
Cost of ingridients for DIY - $4-$8 (lets choose $6), so if I do it by myself I'll save $28.
I can do it in 10 minutes, so doing it for an hour I'll save $168. Not bad hourly rate for a hobbyist.
DIY is one of the most profitable hobbies. Plus pleasure and plus knowing what is in your juice.

He's not talking about buying pre-made eliquid. He's only talking about the one ingredient, Ethyl Maltol (EM).
Mixing your own EM from the base crystals doesn't save you very much money. It's just not worth the effort over just buying a pre-mixed solution of EM.

It...it literally costs 10 times as much to buy the premade EM liquid (10% solution) as to buy the pure crystals (100%) at the same price and mix your own (minus the PG you have to add, which is...negligible.) Same with the menthol, which is also available as premade liquid. Is it a real pain to mix, or something? I'd figured I would just put some PG and crystals in a tall cylinder and swirl it around under hot tap water for a minute or two...is there more to it than that?

Anyways, thanks for the answers. I guess I will look up some recipes instead of just trying single flavors that sound good, if they're not actually very good on their own usually, and I'll look into adding some of the suggested creams and such to my stash. But in any case, it all might have to wait for next month since I just heard about the price cut on Vapor Sharks that starts tomorrow...now I'm kinda GLAD I didn't pull the trigger yesterday :)

I mix my own but to be honest I use so little of it I don't think the cost savings is worth the inconvienence of mixing it. But hey I'm lazy by nature:)

There's also the geek factor in doing it yourself. Like, "I didn't just make this juice with EM liquid, I made the EM liquid, too!"

I'm only on my second bottle of EM solution and it's fairly new. The first was way before there was such a thing as The Flavor Apprentice. So, I've got about $6-10 in it, countless bottles of juice, and spread out over 5+ years of mixing.

I make my own TA solution, Sweetener solution, and even menthol solution, but EM solution still doesn't seem like I'm missing anything by getting it in solution. And like I said, your mileage may vary.

I don't mix my own for the cost savings, which is significant, but I started because very few juices tasted good enough to me and what I make is much better. I keep mixing my own because I have yet to find a premade juice that is better than mine. It's quick, so I can spend more of my free time making furniture or hat molds or haunted house props or costumes.
