I just feel awkward vaping in public. My wife says who cares they should be thanking you since your not blowing around the nasty smelling smoke anymore. She's thrilled cause she hates the smell of smoke (non-smoker) and it would drive her nuts when I smoked. She got somewhat use to it but she still didnt care for it.

It just feels weird to me kinda like I have to hide it for the thought of someone thinking it was "illegal device" or something.

Any vets out there recommend anyway of getting over this LOL

No, you are not alone. There are times it feels like everyone is staring at me like I am a junkie smoking a (MODERATED) , especially when I am using one of my bigger mods. I have a cig a like for these times. But as people learn more and more about vaping, it will become more socially accepted. Rule of thumb: don't vape anywhere you wouldn't smoke.

Usually someone asks " do those work?" but once at an intersection the pastor of my church saw me and he didn't see me see him, ha ha, and was shaking his head in disgust so I was sure to show it to him and explain. Not fun having someone you know think you're on drugs and driving and all that. Someone you dont know isnt nearly as relevant IMO. If someone has the look on their face that might prompt a need for explaination I just smile and explain. Most people, even smokers are pro anything to stop second hand smoke and all that negative stuff. At least where I live in Oregon

I've finally gotten somewhat comfortable vaping in the smoking area at our office building (without being entirely self-conscious about it). I've come to find out that several of the people I don't really know well, but I felt like were "looking at me funny" were really just wanting to ask about how well it works and such. I've actually gotten several others started vaping, and several others are now asking more questions. I don't worry much about it any more if I'm in an area of smokers -- many of them probably already know about vaping.

Rule of thumb: don't vape anywhere you wouldn't smoke.

Do you mean: don't vape where smoking isn't allowed? OR don't vape where you wouldn't feel comfortable smoking? I'm sure most smokers would prefer NOT to leave a nice, warm restaurant and go outside in the bitter cold to smoke.

sgenn99 is right. Well, that's my rule of thumb. I don't vape if it's a non-smoking area. If I vape publicly it would be where hardly any traffic would pass through. I still vape everywhere, but I put myself in their shoes...would I want someone smoking/vaping in front of me if I'm a non-smoker?

The only thing in my mind that I look forward to when I vape is that infamous inquiry of "what is that?". Then I find myself explaining in detail of what it is. Most that I've come across give me praise for finding an alternative that has been researched to not cause any direct second-hand vapor/smoke related illnesses. Some have asked where they could get it for themselves to try or for someone they know to be introduced to it.

Ignorance is bliss, but educating someone is euphoric...

As someone who is also active in the "Open Carry" movement (open carrying a defensive handgun, where legal), I can tell you that I am used to strange looks by all kinds of people. But I got over it, because I had the courage of my conviction, I knew what I was doing was legal, and I knew that every time someone would approach me to ask about it, it would be an "educational opportunity" and maybe even a change to make a convert (there are a LOT more people with concealed carry permits than you'd think, and MOST of them don't even know that Open Carry is legal in most states!)

The same goes for "Open Vaping". It is legal. It is not dangerous to anyone. And every time someone asks you about it, it is a FANTASTIC opportunity to educate them and maybe even make a convert to e-cigs.

Get a "patter" down. If you have to make some notes, do that some evening--work out an "elevator pitch", about how e-cigs helped you get of cigarettes, how it is NOT smoking, and where they can go to get a good "Starter kit". Most vendors even have "rewards programs" and will send you business cards that you can put your "referral code" on, so when you make a convert, an they buy from you rreference, you can get credits toward buying stuff!

Have no fear! Vaping is legal. Vaping is good. Vaping saves lives.

Open Vaping is our best tool for making converts, winning the hearts and minds of the general public, and educating people about our "cause". The more people know about vaping, the more they will support us when ANTZ or misinformed poliiticians try to take away our rights.

The awkward feelings will go away after a while, and the more positive educational opportunities you have, the more comfortable you wil become with "Open Vaping".

So, get out there and Vape Openly, and Vape Proudly!

I carry concealed just my personal preference. I dont want everyone knowing I have it so on so on. But I'm glad there is a lot of people starting to open carry and demonstrate our rights. Its just not for me. Yes theres a ton of License holders (no longer classified as permit) and hope to see more and more license holders as time goes on

After a month of vaping, I still feel a little self-conscious, but now only to the extent that if I am out in a town centre, for example, and walk into an enclosed area I'll pop it in my pocket. I'll happily walk down the street vaping to my hearts content now. Not the case a month ago, if anyone approached I'd quickly pop the little blighter in my pocket.

Bottom line, you'll get used to it, and people will get used to seeing people vape. It's a win win situation - you don't have to feel self-conscious, and they don't get second hand smoke :)

I live in a fairly bad area of my city... so sometimes I feel a little strange walking around with a metal pipe coming out of my mouth. Then I remember 2 things -- 1, most of them are thinking "it" are probably wondering where I got my "supplies" from and 2, i was the girl who'd walk to the very end of the bus stop if there was one not-actively-smoking person sitting on any of the 15 benches because i felt self-concious about my smoking also.

its the same in the smoke area at my school. i feel a little weird when its someone who's not out there smoking, and i walk away a few steps. but when i'm out there with the smokers, i vape away. can't look any sillier than i did with an analog in my hand. at least mine is pretty and purple! and i've gotten 3 or 4 "how do they work for you? do you have any suggestions on startings" in the 2 days i've been vaping at school... so thats a start.

i have a feeling a lot of the self-conciousness is going to wear off when the new of it wears off. i'm still in that stage where i'm either thinking about the next vape, or thinking about if i've pushed teh button long enough...if i'm inha... you know what, you get the idea. ;)

I really dont like the fact that I'm not supposed to vape at my desk at work. I'll generally take a hit or two at my desk if im in the middle of an epiphany in my code, and luckily none of my team members care.

It's just rather annoying that it doesn't have any smell, and I'm still not allowed to smoke indoors for some unknown reason. The even weirder part is they paid for the thing as a 'Smoking cessation device'....

Meh, my office is the only place I've had an issue.

I often feel awkward, although I think of it as classtime for those that don't know about the ecig revolution. What better way to spread the word about a fantastic solution than via questions that people ask. I still feel awkward, but I just get over it. I am careful to be polite to those that are less educated about the benefits of vaping, and even more so toward anyone that asks me not to vape. While I know I have rights as an individual, I am always conscience of others' rights as well. Last thing I want is to overreact when someone says ' You can't use that here', and give ecigs a bad rap. Although I always try to explain my habit. Sometimes people are just adverse to new ideas. I can guarantee that places like that, get a big X in my book, and I find other places to go, obviously they don't really want my money anyway...:p

I live on a massive college campus, as in 50,000 just of grads/undergrads not counting all the university staff as well as normal people living in the area. For the first month or so of college, which was about 2 weeks into vaping, I was pretty self-conscious about vaping in public. It got even worse when I got my Lambo4 with novas and it looks like I have a flashlight in my mouth.

I recently got over that and proudly vape in the open and try to blow out a cloud whenever someone walks by on the sidewalk to and from classes/work. Haven't had anyone stop me and ask about it yet, but hopefully soon. I love talking these up.
