Am I using too much cotton in my Kayfun?

I've been getting some dry hits on my genuine kayfun lite plus, and was wondering if I'm using too much cotton. Maybe wicking is to blame, but I've tried to stay consistent with online tutorials. Thanks for any help and sorry if the picture quality isn't the best. 2014-08-31 12.23.16.jpg2014-08-31 12.23.04.jpg2014-08-23 15.15.37.jpg

doesn't look like it, what build are you using and how much power are you putting to it?
I found 1.3 to 1.8 ohms is the happy spot for kayfuns, at least for me, and depending on the juice I use between 13 to 18 watts.
I tend to use a little more cotton than most by adding some lite clouds around the coil after the lower chimney is put on..... more saturated surface in contact with the coil, never had a dry burn or flooding.

I have had dry hits here and there with mine (only have owned it since this past Friday) and it has simply pushed me back to my RDA's... Will see how the coming work week goes/how much dry hitting I experience; as I purchased it so I won't have to carry 3 different mods/RDA's around to drip all before I go to drive...

Hard to tell. I've found that it should be thick enough to fill the coil but able to slide side to side with ease. Then fold it up and thread it through the chimney base section. Cut it even with the top, moisten with juice and push it down works best. I've tried other methods, tried getting fancy and it never works as good as that basic way.

Good luck

Perhaps that's the issue. I've only been vaping at 10-10,5 watts as I have this irrational fear of blowing something up. Which I do realize is next to impossible with a regulated mod. The main issue I've stayed so low is for example 10 watts is appx 4 volts which if run through a 1.6 ohm coil should be "too hot". However, as I've gotten into rebuilds I find people firing at much higher wattages/voltages? Is this due to the resiliency of the kenthal wire or something else? Nevertheless, you recommend uping the wattage then?

Yeah! Non vapors don't get it! They ask why I keep buying all this stuff, why is it so complicated and why do you do if it makes you so frustrated sometimes. It's kinda like a holy quest I tell them. Not so much about finding the answer, but by being illuminated in the journey. BTW, do you know how to add a picture to your profile?

I "roll" a cotton wick, just enough to fill the coil but easily pass thru the coil, trim it to lay down the sides of the well and rest loosely on the bottom, but not covering the "intake" holes. Use 1.8 ohms at 3.7v. Once I got the wicking right, I still got dry hits at the beginning of the tank. This was because I was trying to fill it too full. I find that I need to leave a pretty big bubble when refilling or it doesn't feed properly. Now it feeds and wicks great every time.

If I get that burning taste because I tried to fill it too full, I find that the original mouthpiece helps it to feed properly...probably creates more sucking with the smaller hole and tighter draw. Once the juice level goes down a little, I can swap out for the wider bore drip tip that I prefer for a looser draw.
