Am trying to figure out if I'm missing out on something that is fun

What is the fun of all this cloud chasing? We have lots of threads about it, the recent event at Vapor Blast in Texas, there's a new thread about it with a lot of discussions going on, I'm having trouble understanding the thrill of it.

Yes, I am old. But I do understand thrill seeking. I've done some of the usual, the hot air balloon ride, the tandem parachute jump, the para-sailing behind a boat, lots of roller coasters and I enjoy trying most sports, some I'm pretty good at, some I just suck at ...but I don't get why it's fun to blow big clouds of vaper. Am I missing out?

It does get boring pretty quick for some people. But, vaping becomes a hobby for many people, it's something they enjoy, including building coils, and cloud chasing is no different from another hobby. You may not understand it, like a lot of people, just like not everyone understands other hobbies. I don't understand why people knit or sew as a hobby but they do and obviously enjoy it. I see cloud chasing like fixing up and building a car, to it's maximum performance and speed. It's a challenge and with most hobbies there's a goal someone is trying achieve.

Flavor, warmth, throat hit and mouth feel. For me sub ohming is about quality of vape, clouds are just a side effect. I do enjoy watching my vapor, but I was always a smoke watcher too. I've never been interested at all if you are specifically talking about competitions. Someone else had a thread a while ago that said it was all about inhaling clouds, not chasing them. I have to agree.

I've always equated a "good" vape one that produced as much vapor as the particular atomizer could as possible, without burning the wick and juice, and that provided as much flavor as that particular atomizer could produce.

Today there are cloud competitions that sprung up from vapers just playing around to see how much they could produce. Certain RDA's are required, and its not about the flavor at all.

That said, some cloud chasing atomizers can give good flavor too, and the warmth, mouth feel, throat hit are to them the best vape.

In my experience there's some trade off between vapor production and flavor with 2, 3 and 4 coils, huge air holes, and .1X to .2X ohms resistance.

I like a single or double coil RDA designed for sub ohms coils and maximized flavor; you can have both (sort of). I see it as amplifying the factors that make a good vape. More pleasure

BTW Auntie Mame, a few years ago, most vapers on ECF were shocked about going below 1 ohms resistance and gave anyone doing it a hard time here. I knew sub ohms vaping was here to stay and glad to see things have changed.

You made some good points. For myself I just want to add for the OP that not everyone who blows big clouds are cloud chasers, but people who feel satisfied with a warm-hot vape and the feeling of filling their lungs, as it feels closer to cigarettes. There are members on ECF who only was able to really quit cigarettes from sub ohm vaping. I was never satisfied with tanks of any kind and would go back and forth to smoking and even when I stopped I was always tempted by cigarettes until I found something that worked. But, I'll admit I thought blowing clouds looked cool and wanted to just do it, and I did cloud chase for a couple months but in the end it got me to stop missing actual smoking.

I just love your signature. Steel Magnolia's has always been a favorite of mine. I have often wondered if I was missing out on something with all that I have read on cloud chasing but I have come to the conclusion there are as many different types of vapers as there are personal vaporizers. The key is to find what is right for you. It has turned into a great hobby for me since I make my own juice and rebuild my atomizers. I'm so happy with my vaping with the reo grand, that I don't have to look any further. Good luck to you and happy vaping. Look forward to reading more about you. And by the way, you do sort of sound like a thrill seeker.

I find the thrill is that I can do it. I was leery for a long time cause I didn't have the right batteries to vape safely so I just built regular ohm coils for my protanks. Now that I have the proper 35 amp batteries I am now dwelling in low ohm builds, not super sub ohms but going down as low as .6 and enjoying the vape. Trying different ohm builds with 30 gauge kanthal I've found my sweetspot with 1.4 ohm build in a protank on a provari produces a mighty fine vape.
I did find the .6 a bit hot but built a 1.0 ohm protank build vapes my Yaeliq grape very well and I don't have to worry about blowing my face off since I'm making a good cloud without pushing any limits.
I consider vaping a hobby that got me off cigs so sitting down and making a better build than my last build is just how it goes. I was young once too and pushed all kinds of limits but being older and kinda wiser I don't have nothing to prove to anybody, so go chase the cloud...I don't care.

wow i didn't even think of that, and i agree, its more like a cigarette and i think most will agree there's a good feeling about lots of vapor for an easier transition to vaping.

lol, when i think about it i first started with a lousy tiny batt ecig that looked just like a cigarette. it lasted about 1/2 hour, tasted like vaping a tiny puff of powder, and it took about 3 hours to recharge!!! LOL.

I tried cig a likes on and off for about 4 years never worked tried VV pens then a VV/VW mod and kept going back to cigs until I found mechs, although I'll never tell a newbie to buy a mech, it's more of graduation to reach that point. Although it was very overwhelming in the beginning it definitely helped me quit, just not save money with a mech addiction.

I like the variety. I always have a kayfun with a provari near me. For all day, everyday , thats awfully hard to beat. I also enjoy a well built dripper on a mech...in the .3ohm neighborhood. However, lately I've been getting the same results from a 1 ohm dripper at 30watts. I like it all.
And Ocelot is right, its pretty!

Like many things you never know till you try, I don't look to cloud chase in particular, but I do enjoy the act of exhaling something of substance. My equipment would never even qualify to be in the realm of cloud chasing but I can make like a respectable baby dragon.

If make a go at it play around with really low to no nicotine, it's fun even when done smartly and not so low in ohms your pushing limits.

I vape at 0.5 ohms regularly, lower is not my comfort zone for vape flavor or quality. That's my happy place.

Everytime I see someone post that they have 35A batteries I think of the purple EFEST 18650 batteries. So this post is just an FYI!

If your batteries are the purple Efest 18650 2500mAh 35A batteries -- they are not 35A continuous. They are really rebranded LG18650HE2 2500mAh 20 amp continuous batteries.

I subscribe to 46 different reviewers and I can only think of one that is a cloud chaser. Coincidence , I'm not sure. I vape for just one reason, not to smoke the real thing. To each his own. Just be safe. I'd hate to see some idiot ruin it for the rest of us. Enjoy the day![emoji6]
