why do i keep seeing people hating on kryptonite? What did I miss its one of my fav authentic atty's and i was thinking about buying their new mod. Someone please tell me!

If I remember correctly they hired some elitist goons to "serve" a booth that was selling clones. It was posted to youtube but I think its been taken down.

USA. State: Inebriated.
If you go to Ameravape's social media outlets, you'll see (before they get deleted) all the negative feedback.

Common phrases are, "Chinese trash" and "clones are better than your overpriced authentics!"

Also uh, the regular Manhattan doesn't have vent holes? What the hell? How can you call it a "competition mod" if it doesn't have the one failsafe most "non-competition mods" have?!

Did Ameravape say their prizes were a donaton or sponsorship?
A donation would be one WITHOUT strings attached.
If they said sponsorship, did they spell out the terms first? If they didn't, I would just tell them to either collect their stuff back themselves or to pay for shipping back to them. Failing which, the collection would be sold/auctioned/donated to charity.

Yeah I've watched a video with the owner of Ameravapes and he really expresses how he feels about clones. He hates them so I can see why AV did that. But at the same time I don't really think it's cool to exclude a whole demographic of people that use clones after the contest had already been announced. The guy really seems like a straight up douche the way he talks about clones and people that use them. I really don't care if I'm using a clone or an authentic. I buy clones because I don't have a huge budget for vaping. I have a few authentic mods and I buy a lot of RDA clones and if I like one of them a lot then I'll spend the money and get the authentic but that's rare. I think that $140 for an RBA is ridiculous. I know they have to manufacture them and it costs them a lot of money to do it because they have to pay for machine time and stuff but I mean $100+ is a lot of money.

I know I don't have to buy them because no one is holding a gun to my head and saying to do it but I'd like to have these awesome RDA's that are coming out. I just think once the prices on this stuff start coming down cloning is going to stop because the supply will meet the demand in the US.
Seems like they are ...... no matter what they do.

They donated some gifts to use as prizes in a Ohio cloud contest, then tell the shop owner that only authentics are allowed to enter any contest that uses their items as prizes.

What a bunch of crap. "Sure...here, take out items as prizes, but you have to take out about 90% of the contest entrants because their too poor for authentics."

I told the owner that I'd package the prizes back up and send them back. We all know that there are some clones out there that are better than the authentics, at a fraction of the authentic cost...my Tobeco copper Mutant is one of them. It has vent holes that the authentic should have had, but didn't. There are also instances of some clones having better switches than authentic.

To deny those that can't afford the high dollar that authentics demand is insane.

This kind of isolationist thinking is going to be the doom for Ameravape...I not only refuse to buy their product, but I will refuse to buy the clones of their product because I refuse to use their design.

The way the FB thread reads is that they were donated as gifts...but only for contests where authentic pieces are the only devices used. There is no sponsor, other than the store that is hosting. It's a customer appreciation/Octoberfest thing happening on the 18th.

Yes but they did not state that condition until after they donated the items.

How would Ameravape even KNOW if there were clones in the contest? Personally, they are on my "do not support" list right next to kryptonite.
Really, why, what did kryptonite do? I love me some vaping drama lol but seriously, I haven't heard anything about kryptonite...

I won't post the video because of the language. Search for 'Ijoy-1 on Vimeo' and check out the Vimeo video dated Sep 9, 2014. Guys from the Kryptonite booth had two non-Kryptonite guys 'serve papers' on the Ijoy booth for selling clones as originals. That was pretty poorly done. To my knowledge no evidence supporting the Kryptonite claim has ever been presented by the Kryptonite team. If you Google a bit more you'll find Reddit threads that go into a bit more detail.

IMO it was a case of some bad decisions by the Kryptonite team and they then didn't do themselves any favors in their attempt to distance themselves from the event.

Have fun with it :)

You really have to see the video to fully understand. In short, Ecc was supposed to be a "no clones" event. How and when this was decided appears to be up for debate, and I don't have a vendor contract, so I don't know. So Kryptonite had some fill in the blank cease and desist orders from Legal Zoom or something, and rather than having an attorney or a server, they picked a couple of dudes from the crowd. One was wearing a "clones support terrorism" t-shirt. Much calamity ensued, with screaming, yelling, etc. when the vendor wadded up the "not even legal...or binding...or properly served" papers, the thugs were threatening felony jail time. My favorite part was when the vendor acted like he was going to throw the ball of paper, they started screaming about filing assault charges. Then as the goons were walking away they were actually yelling something like "Elitists rule."

I support original makers defending their products by whatever legal means are available. This was just foolish. I won't support a company that condones this type of behavior. I already owned an authentic 454, but if I hadn't, I would have rushed out to buy the clone.

ETA
I googled ECC and Kryptonite, and there is quite a bit of new stuff out there, including a lot of backpedaling from kryptonite and apologigizes from the guy who shot the video on kryptonites facebook. You know... If you REALLY want all the drama! lol It's actually worth it just to see his new "HEMO" t-shirt. (high end mods only.)
