My nephew has been posting pictures of a new mod set up he got today. He got what looks to be a SMOKTech Alien. Goes to 220W. From his pictures he's running it just over 80W, but it only shows like 10 amps on it's screen. When using dual batteries like that does the amps go down? I know that he only owns batteries rated for 20amps, and was concerned when I saw it was 0.115 ohms.

Sorry if it sounds like a noob question, but I only run single battery mechs at just over 0.4 ohms. Just want to make sure he hasn't compromised his battery safety by not doing some research first.

Regulated mods don't care what the resistance is, just the wattage. Regulated just kicks out what you set, so you basically divide watts by 3 by number of batteries to know what safe is, so even at 90 watts (cuz the math is easier) is 90/3 for 30 amps, by 2 for 15 amps continuous.
220 out of a two battery mod seems like a lot though. I have a Spark 90 that I would never use at 90, since it would need a 30 amp battery that I don't own. Could be some programming new voodoo I don't know about, but your nephew is safe.

Thanks so much for the reply, and the easy to understand explanation.

@Alawot the numbers on the screen relate to amps on the atomizer side of the regulator chip and are really of no use. What is important is the number of amps being pulled from the battery on the other side of the regulator. This is not displayed on the screen and has to be calculated manually based on your wattage level and the CDR of the battery.

I have the Smok 220w Alien. Using Samsung 25rs. The amps on screen, like sonic said,is what's on the chip end, not the battery end. With dual 18650s in series, as long as they're 20 amp cdr (the 25rs are), you can go up to around 140 watts, although personally in wouldn't go above 120-125. But normally I use mine between 75-95 watts, depending on build. On regulated mods, coil resistance isn't important for what's being drawn from the batts.

Thanks! He's been running between 80-85, but I'll give him a heads up.

You'd be exceeding the cdr quite a lot at 140w though (26-27 amps). The 25r should be able to handle that, when new at least, but it should be noted.
