Hello all!
I just found this forum, and wanted to introduce myself. My name is John, and I'm an atheist vaper. I was raised in a devoutly Catholic home, and went to Catholic school for a while. It all left a very bad taste in my mouth, so to speak. When I got old enough to think for myself, I realized that I am, and have been an atheist for many years, maybe my whole life.

In any case, I hope to join in some great discussions on this forum.

Now, two things I hate:

1. "Everything happens for a reason."
2. "It's all part of God's plan."

Does anyone have any thoughts on these? Let's discuss...

Everything happens for a reason - of course it does, it's just very presumptious to assume its a supernatural reason. Can't we find beauty in the garden without believing there are fairies at the bottom of it?
It's all part of God's plan - his plan for what? and to what end? How do you know it's part of 'his' plan? This is of course intended to bring the discussion over to some quote in the bible which is an open invite to destroy it's validity by pointing out the numerous contradictions and falsehoods.

These have the same basic meaning. It implies that your fate has been predetermined and designed by some architect... or "God". It's the same as saying something is "God's will", or giving credit to "God" for something positive happening in your life. To me it is frustrating, I see people accomplish many things in their lives but cut themselves short by giving credit to something that had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Nothing happens for any reason, it just does... but what we learn from those experiences is invaluable.
