I know this has been spoken about many times but I just wanted to contribute my own thread. I have been smoke free for 15 days now, only smoking the e-cig. I was really stressed out earlier today and had a pack of analogs sitting around. So I went back to my old routine of stepping out on the balcony for a smoke. At first it was pretty enjoyable, but half way through I just felt like crap (I think guilty more than anything) and put it out. Stepping back inside, I smelled the odor and tasted that wicked taste in my mouth. I am so happy I have rid myself of that nasty habit. I also want to thank you all for making this forum a true community. Is there anything more noble than helping people save their own lives?

Welcome corp, well done on the two weeks.

I had a similar feeling when i went back to analogs after a month off of them. The inital hit was good, the taste was awful and after 3 drags i put it out. I went 5 more days while waiting for new stock. In that time i smoked 3 packs and didn't enjoy a single one and the aftertaste was real bad. Since then been smoke free.

Keep it up bud - welcome to the family !!

This was my thought as well, but I'm *stunned* at the level of negative feedback I'm getting from family and friends!

"What a waste of money..."
And cigarettes were such a good investment... :rolleyes:

"Why don't you just quit - period?"
Gee, never thought of that, sounds soooo easy! :rolleyes:

"That nicotine juice doesn't sound too healthy..."
OK, yeah, maybe you're right - I should just go back to smoking. :rolleyes:

Keeping in mind that all of these loved ones quit the old-fashioned way, I just have to keep reminding myself they're just jealous that I'm having such an easy time of it, to the point of actually enjoying it! :D

@melissa

I am lucky that I'm not even tempted. They are out of sight tucked away in a cigar box (in case of an emergency I guess... like the end of the world and not having electricity to recharge batteries).

@mytiburon

Yeah, that's one of the things I hated when I started the e-cig.. how heavy it is. I still manage to put it behind my ear though, haha. But when I had that cigarette in my hand, it was so damn light.

@lynda

Completely agree. The costs? I think they are well worth it. I just hope these e-cig suppliers don't price gauge and the prices stay relatively low. I live in North Carolina and cigarettes here are CHEAP! until a couple weeks ago that is... a pack of Marb Lights went from 3.30 to 5.30 overnight. E-cigs are an investment, which will have a far greater yield in a few months.

My daughter says it is good that I quit cigarettes. She said she was concerned what the ecig will do to me in the long run. I explained to her I had completely quit coughing and breathe so much better then how could they be harming me. She said I didn't know what else they were doing to me and is concerned. I don't understand why so many people say this. She also said I was still addicted to nicotine. I told her nicotine was not causing me harm. I could not get her to understand that ecigs were not dangerous. What should I tell her to convince her that ecigs are safe. I explained to her how many chemicals were in regular cigarettes compared to ecigs.

Help getting people to understand ecig usage.

I'm surprised you smoked half the analog. I tried one after switching about a week later and it just about did me in and tasted awful.

Mostly, everyone is happy I'm now vaping. Xmas day, as I sat inside and vaped away, I actually got a few remarks from people heading out to the cold porch that they were going to go enjoy a real one. They actually sounded proud of the idea.8-o

Anyone notice that the hugs you get last longer now.:)

The true reason I want to quit is mostly because my girlfriend wont even kiss me in the mouth because it smells so bad. but the health effects certainly arent better than that, im just saying. when i told her about it she said " why dont you just quit completely? then you wont have to buy anything" to which i replied " i love smoke"

I've been trying to figure out why it seems so different this time around - the vast majority of people who go back and try an analog after having vaped for a while think they taste disgusting. I have plenty of them sitting around, but haven't had any desire to light one up. But I have never noticed the odor like I do now, and they smell awful. I quit for a year about 12 years ago, and cigs still smelled good to me then - it was very difficult to be around people who smoked. And when I lit that first one up after a year, it tasted great. So I don't know why it is so different now, but I'm glad it is.

A friend of mine was all worried that he might go back to analogs and i just laughed and told him not to be sweating it.

Sure enough after about ten days he broke down and smoked one and i asked him how it was and he said it was horrible and he will never touch them again after vaping.

I loved smoking more than almost anything i have ever done in my life and i look at them now and only think about how foul they are.

I'm not saying i will never break down and smoke a fine cigar or anything like that but my cig days are over for good, i can't even imagine going back to the analogs.

I've been afraid to even try a cigarette. When I made the decision to start vaping, I went all in and decided that whether or not it was for me, cigarettes were no more. When walking around Boston, I find myself behind people that are smoking and find the smell pretty awesome still (2 weeks here - idk how a cigarette can trigger in smell what a steak can for taste), so I know it might be pretty easy to backslide. Cigarettes must be more addictive than crack.

I never got to that place where cigarettes tasted horrible,
I guess I wish I had but truth be told and being honest, a cigarette still tastes great to me. Vaping is of course a much better alternative and could never go back to the 2pk a day, can't believe I ever smoked that much. Maybe one day, I hope to get there.:oops:
I agree. I have been vaping for a year now, but I still have a couple of cigs a day. They taste great just like they always did.

Since getting my first ecig at the beginning of October, I've managed to go 4 days at the most without an analog. The last analog I had was late Christmas day. On the whole, I've smoked a lot less and every one I didn't have is a small victory. I'm taking the advice of another forum member; when you get the urge, just vape until it passes. My wife is still on analogs so it's tough at times.

Like most of you, I liked the smoking habit, the getting up and leaving to go have a .... and all associated "rituals". I'm not an idiot, I know it's bad for me. I'm not certain that vaping is perfectly safe, but I think it can't be nearly as bad. One thing I have not done since vaping is smoke in the car. I can't stand the smoke in a small place. Dead of winter up here in the Northeast, I'd have the windows rolled down. With the ecig I haven't noticed any smell, no ashes to fall in my lap, no taking my eyes off the road to put it out.

A big incentive was to save money, but the biggest reason was to screw the state and feds out of tax money;}
