... I was curious and thinking about this today.

Do you think all analog look a-likes are dead in the water? For the heavy vaper, that is. They seem to work ok, other than the life of batteries. Or, well, the lack there of.

There are lots of mods out there that look different and have a longer battery type. Long cylinders, boxes, etc.

Is anyone out there attempting to make a better small battery?

I think we are pretty much limited to what we can do Battery wise of that size of an analog compared to what the bigger battery mods can do, I believe Leaford was working on a smaller Bloog Max Fusion but I'm not sure about this. Battery technology is a very quickly moving industry but as far as new battery technology that moves a bit slower, there are some newer advancements that will be coming to the battery world that will help the ecig world out a lot but it's a ways away still

Bloog kind of scares me. Seems like most of their products are out of stock, and continue to be out of stock.

What's closest to Bloog in your opinion?

I have a friend who is wanting to try vaping, but he just needs to go through that stage where the pv needs to be close to analog size. Even my eGo just doesn't feel comfortable to him yet. He wants a pcc and the works ... but Bloog seems out of stock and pretty high priced.

Just trying to find him something to get him past this stage. (or if he likes it, and it works for him, great!)

I've been using the Colibri recently...it's the only one I've found that is the exact size of a real cig...it works pretty well but I think there is still some burning in the cartos...If a Bloog came out at this size I would snatch it up in a second.

I don't think it's dead...there really isn't a problem with small eCigs as long as you have a PCC...the Colibri finishes charging a dead battery before I kill a battery. The PCC lasts a day and a half...my eGo lasts a day and a half.

When it's all said and done (in the future) I think you will see longer lasting super minis taking over the industry...but I do think we'll still be sitting here with our big battery eGo successors because we are enthusiasts...the general public is going to go after something that is more familiar to them, a super mini.

I seriously doubt they will every make a battery small enough for a mini PV that will give you the consistency and throat hit (not to mention battery life) of a good 5 volt or variable volt PV. Even if it were possible, it would cost too much. Look at how long the auto industry has been working on smaller batteries for cars and they still aren't there, yet. But many Americans are fine with mediocre products that are inconsistent. But if people are serious about quitting smoking, it would be better IMO to "break away" from the visual referrence to analogs.

I guess it depends on how much of an inconvenience something is to you. I was a 2 pack/day smoker, started with Riva/eGos and from there a big battery mod, but ended up after a couple of months going with the automatic KR808. It was a great size and with their Wow carts gave me a great cloud of vapor. No, a battery was not going to last 10 hours. But at the same time, screwing a carto on a battery is not a lot more effort than pulling a cigarette out of the pack anyway. I just think the "inconvenience" of a smaller profile battery can be a bit overstated for everyday use. If you're going camping or away from an electric outlet for a couple of days, yes, it can be rough. Otherwise, it's no big deal carrying even a handful of batteries around with you- it takes up no more space than the pack of cigarettes we smokers were used to carrying.

Imo the bad rep they have is for a good reason. Most people I know including myself searched for a PV that looked like cigarette in the beginning. Unless your in the few that can stop smoking by using one then quickly quit vaping after that then stay away. You'll end up upgrading and upgrading for many different reasons. Wish I had started with a big batt selfjuicer mod because I would have saved a lot of time and hundreds of dollars.

That's my thoughts on it. I smoked 2 packs a day for 16 years, the best ecig for me is my auto smoketip 808. I'm lazy as bleep but its really no big deal to screw a battery in a pcc. The th and vapor is just fine. I do have a pigcig for longer trips but if I'm just going out for a bit the auto batteries work fine. At home I use a passthrough.

Frankly, and I mean this with all due respect, people are just too picky. I think lack of satisfaction is more of a mental thing than an actuality. Most people simply want a cigarette replacement and don't want to get caught up in some technological arms race or a "look what mod I can afford" ...... contest . Like sensefield said, the public will want analog lookalikes. Like anything there will be the hobbyists who want bigger, faster, better but an auto mini will far and wide be the model of choice for the general public.

IMO, your statements shows you have little comparative experience with different devices. You are the exception, not the rule. The vast majority can't stand auto batteries which is why all the better models come with manual batteries along with the fact they simply vape much better. And the vast majority who vape with better devices do so because they simply provide the "inhaled feel" of an analog much better than your device does.

I do agree that everyone is different and there are vapers like you who like little to no throat hit and are not heavy vapers so battery life is not an issue. And it's good that there are small analog looking PV's for that type of vaper. But unless you have vaped on a good 5 volt PV or a good variable volt PV, there is no way to understand the significantly better throat hit, consistency, battery life and less hassle that they provide. I am definitely not a collector of PV's as I only have three and will be selling one of those. There are so many new and better PV's coming on the market because for most, they want the "inhaled feel" of an analog as well as the consistency and control that comes with better PV's. And mini auto PV's just do not provide that. And I know that because I have tried them all and I am backed up by hundreds of similar posts on this and other vaping sites that have stated the same conclusion.

I am not sure exactly why you have appointed yourself the definitive voice on all things vaping.

The fact that I was able to quit cigarettes and now vaping without variable voltage and high voltage confirms that your self-declared expert opinion is still merely an opinion, valid for you but not necessarily for all or even most of the rest of the vaping public.

I don't know that having hundred people agreeing with you is really representative of the vaping community. As has come up in other discussions on this forum and elsewhere, there is a huge number of vapers out there and this and the other vaping sites are just barely the tip of the iceberg. Contrary to what you believe, some people are looking for a cigarette substitute and not a new hobby, and therefore do not join a forum to talk about it- they just make the switch. If that was typical consumer behavior, we'd have cereal forums and whole milk forums and hundreds of potato chip forums.

I am glad you enjoy your high voltage vaping. Not everybody does, and it's ludicrous to suggest that someone who doesn't need or like it is somehow less of an authentic vapor than the 6V and/or varivolt users.

You must have a reading comprehension disorder. I never stated most of the BS you spewed out. I never once stated that someone who doesn't vape at 6 volts is "not an authentic vapor". If I had, that would mean I was not authentic since I don't vape at 6 volts as the majority do not. I also stated that there are those who like mini, weak battery devices with no throat hit and that it is a good that there are different options.

But the person I was responding to, just like you, stated that if you vape using a better PV, then you are just a collector or hobbist, and that there is no difference in the performance of the devices. And that is just pure BS, just like your entire post. And that smacks of being a narrow minded snob.

If you have vaped on both 5 volt and variable volt PV's and think they are no better that a regular 510, 808, Blu, SE, 4081 or M401, then you should start a thread and states those conclusions and why you believe that. I'm sure there are many on this forum who would respond to your post, after they stopped laughing. And if you don't have the experience to make a valid comparison, then you don't know what your are talking about, which is obvious.

i can give first hand experience. i started 3 months ago with a joye 510 started kit. these batteries suck! im a heavy vaper, i bring both batteries fully charged to work, by the time i get home they are dead. i literally charge both batteries at least 5 times a day. when i decided to give up analogs for vaping i wanted something that looked just like a cigarette and i wanted to trick myself into thinking i was smoking, if i had to do it over again i would have at least bought an ego kit. i never expected to vape this much or even enjoy vaping this much. yesterday i decided to do what i should have done a while ago, purchased a 1000mah ego battery for when im out in public and a bottomfeeder for everything else. so my answer is, for heavy vapers, analog lookalikes are dead in the water.

I have tried 5V and variable voltage models.

In my experience:

1) The throat hit is 'better' only in that it is harsher, not in any other subjective way. It does not give an increased rush or leaves a more enduring sensation.

2) Consistency is a matter of atomizer/cartridge performance and wattage, not battery size.

3) Battery life is no different from using a 3.7V with a matching pcc.

4) They are far more hassle than an analog look-alike. They are bulky, heavy, and unbalanced. They cannot be conveniently or easily held in the mouth for long periods of time when you want to puff while your hands are otherwise engaged.

Contrary to your other pompous pronouncement, the last stats available (July-Aug, 2010) show that automatic batteries have a higher re-order rate than manuals (for those staying within the same brand/model product line), automatic batteries are chosen to replace manuals more often than manuals are chosen to replace automatics (for those staying within the same brand/model product line), automatic batteries are consistently ranked higher than manuals in both quality of product and product satisfaction by users, and in surveys conducted in June, 2010, Sept. 2010, and Nov. 2010, automatics were ranked as more "like smoking" by a 7-4 margin among smokers who had never vaped.

Batteries are just limited by size. Unless your friend wants to wait 20 years for the next technology just get him to buy a 510. Perhaps get the extra long bat for it. He'll eventually get an ego or mod.
I use a white 510 to blend-in, and always have an Ego w/clearomizer in the car. It's a good starter combo.

Ok. That's all I pretty much wanted to know. ie: If there would be/could be advances in smaller batteries some time soon, that would also be cost effective.

I suppose not.

This is a good point, right now I'm really enjoying my Provari + MAP tank... but the comments (mostly from other vapers) are really annoying. Granted the few that tried it commented that it was an amazing difference in performance (the first few days I kept my old ego on hand, just so I could point out the differences).
