I love my cigarettes. More-so I think I love the smoking room at work and all the other social aspects of being a smoker around other smokers. I've done quite a bit of reading with skepticism at heart and stumbled upon this sight!

My questions:

I'm sure a lot of people ask this one, but which E-Cig is right for me?
I know I want a lot of vapor and cheap refills!
I also would like one that looks more like a cigarette than a colorful stick.
(Exception! The "Blu" E-Cigs are pretty with the tip lighting up blue...)

Can I buy cartridges and other supplies locally anywhere? Eg: WalGreens, CVS, etc..


Where, if 'no' is the answer to question 2, is a good supplier with fast shipping and decent prices to check out?


What's the amount of money to get started vaping and about how much a month should i expect to pay for fluids?

Personally, I think you would like a manual 510, white. About the size of a tobacco cigarette. Cons; small cartridge, short battery life.
Pros; great vapor, you can buy a PCC to charge one battery while you're using the second one,

No, most supplies have to be ordered on the internet unless there is a supplier close to your home that will allow you to pick up items.

Lots of good vendors and most sell the 510. Check out Rocky Mountain Vapor, Heaven's Gift, Eastmall, Janty and too many others to name. Look for the best price.


What's the amount of money to get started vaping and about how much a month should i expect to pay for fluids?

I would guess at least $150.00 because you need to buy the startup kit, extra batteries, extra atomizers, extra cartridges and juice to refill those cartridges. This is just a guess as I've accumulated most of mine over 3 months. You can buy juice from most of the suppliers that sell the kits. Again, shop around for the best prices and you don't necessarily have to buy everything at once. You also do want to be prepared in case an atomizer or battery goes bad, you still have a spare so you can still vape.

Usually your monthly expense would depend on how much juice you use ( it can be purchased as cheaply as $9.00 for 30 ml to $30.00 for 30 ml). You might need to purchase some extra attys or batteries, so it will vary. I also have the urge to purchase bigger and better equipment so it can be as cheap or expensive as you want to go.

The blu is not generally though of as the best choice (for price and performance). Most people will steer you toward the JOYE510. It is the newest, best, most popular model out there. And now that the "newness" has worn off, people still praise it. It's my model of choice.

A great reliable model is the DSE901. I think most people would be happy with either, they're both good models.

Don't spend any money until you do some more reading. You get the most bang for your buck ordering from China direct (heaven-gifts and HealthCabin). Lowest prices, cheapest e-liquids. But US suppliers also offer great customer service and fast shipping. Which US dealer is best depends on model.

What I did before I found the forums is to go to YouTube and do a search for the JOYE510 and DSE901. You get to see them, hear reviews, and see what appeals to you most.

On the forum home page, if you scan way down there's a section for BLU. Read those, too.

Read a lot. Those people in your smoking room will want to know more.

P.S. You're smoking room stinks by the way. You don't know it now, but after a few weeks when you get your sense of smell back you'll realize it. I can tell the smokers just by passing them in the halls at work. And that used to be me!

The hardest question of yours to answer is going to be the first. "Which e-cig is right for you?" So many people have their own favorites and it really does depend on the type of person you are and how much time you take to learn your e-cig. That being said I'll answer your first question with my personal preference, nothing more, it's just my opinion.

1.) A manual switch 510 - I choose the manual because it allows you to regulate your drag. The button takes a little away from the "analog" look but it has a much lower learning curve with it and performs better over time.

2.) Shop online. Most anything you get from a local store - if you can find one - will be waaay overpriced.

3.) Like peoples choices in e-cigs, their choices for suppliers vary as well. If you go the 510 route then find a starter kit around 40 bucks. I know eVapor is doing a deal on manual 510 starter kits for 35 bucks. (2 atomizers and 2 batteries = 2 e-cigs)

4.) 40 to 70 bucks for a well priced starter kit, 30 bucks for a couple spare batteries and atomizers, and 30 bucks of e-liquid. So a rough estimate is 130 to 150 bucks to start and get you vaping for about 3 weeks. After that it's just a matter of buying e-liquid and the occasional spare part (if you don't get addicted to buying new models and customizing like many of us do). I spent about 75 bucks a week on smokes before I switched to e-cigs so it started paying for itself after the first two weeks. Now I spend about 60 bucks a month on e-liquid (and have reserves)

I know Texas is a big state, so I don't know if they are near you, but Dietsmokes, Vapor Station, and Janty are all in Texas, so you might have a supplier right around the corner!

Yeah pay attention to that. I thought I'd be able to enjoy the random smoke if I wanted to but once you get your sense of smell and taste back, while maintaining your nic fix, you just won't like smokes anymore. It's odd because every time I quit cold turkey in the past the best smell and taste in the world was the cigarette that brought me back to smoking, but with e-cigs it's the exact opposite.

Tim, welcome to the forum! Whenever someone asks for suggestions on a PV model to pick, I usually start out by asking some questions of my own to better understand what would best meet your needs/wants...so here goes:

Is form factor really important to you? you've already stated that you would like it to look like a real cigarette...but then you mention you liked the look of the Blu. Keep in mind the smaller and "more realistic-looking" the PV, the lesser the performance tends to be (battery life, throat hit, vapor production, cartridge life, etc). Also.....many new vapers feel the same way about wanting a PV that most closely resembles a real cigarette.....but they all end up changing their mind (I happen to be one of those!).

How much throat hit (what we feel in our throat when we inhale) are you looking for? Since this is kind of tough for an inexperienced person to gauge, you could just start off by telling us what kinds of cigarettes you smoke and how many you smoke per day.

Are you concerned with battery life? Again, the smaller the model, the shorter the life of the battery inbetween charges tends to be.

Are you concerned with flavor reproduction? Some models tend to do a better job of allowing you to taste the flavor you are vaping.

As for the vapor, you've already informed us that you would like plenty of vapor.

As for your other questions:

Purchasing cartridges: You would be hard-pressed to find cartridges being sold in your local area (as far as a store-front) since 95% of the vendors/suppliers are internet-based. However, as a cost-savings measure, you're better off focusing on purchasing bottles of e-liquid and refilling your cartridges. This not only helps to save money, but the flavor selections and the flavors themselves, tend to be better than what's in the pre-filled carts.

Suppliers: There are many suppliers listed in this forum and for the most part, they all provide great service and timely delivery. Your best bet would be check out the reviews posted about the suppliers. But since you ask, I would certainly not hesitate in suggesting MyFreedomSmokes, Widows Beadwork, and NHaler.com.....there are many more I could suggest....but that would only make this long-winded response even longer.

On average, you should expect to pay $50+ for your starter kit....if you decide to purchase extras (atomizers, batteries, pass-throughs, PCCs) the cost will obviously increase. In addition, you will need to purchase some e-liquids at the same time to make sure you can use your PV once the pre-filled cartridges run dry. As for the cost of fluids, I generally tell people that the average price for a 30ml bottle of e-liquid runs about $20.

You guys rock for reals! I just smoked a cigarette (ack! Sorry!) and ate some cereal and had 6 replies! I also saw a guy (Can't think of his userID now!!! Starts with a C) review the 510 manual and auto against the 901 manual and autos. 510 is very appealing so far. I'm now on to scanning over different suppliers! If anybody has more ideas or other input, please spill it!

Oh! How often do you get told you "can't smoke here" when you're vaping? How hard is it to get people to understand you're legally enjoying yourselves?

True about cigs tasting nasty in comparison with an ecig...back in the day when you started smoking you had two options...tobacco or menthol...if you had a choice of all the flavors vaping had to offer, tobacco would have probably been most of ours last choice.

And that is everything you need for the 510 - a passthrough saves on batteries by having a usb plug which you can use in your computer or a wall or car plug that has a usb port. Those should be rated 1amp. They sell both there but I don't know what their rating is. You'd have the PCC which has an internal battery that takes 4 hours to charge and can change ecig batteries up to 5 times which should last you all day. About the only possible addition would be one other battery. And again, some juice. Not everyone likes Ecopure (I do) and the flavors are limited vs what you can get elsewhere.

I smoke Marlboro Smooths at a rate of 10-12 cigarettes a day when I'm off work
A full 15-20 cigarettes a day when I am working.

I like the look of the black 510 and less so the 901 with the slanted mouth piece (correct?) I'm not very fond of huffing on machine-looking devices, if you understand what I'm trying to say... Like the Cold-Heat soldering iron modded pv.... lol. I wouldn't take that to work. Still a cool idea, dont get me wrong!

I still like the bog-standard 901 just fine a lot of the time. But you won't know till you've tried; and certainly tastes will change, can almost gurantee it.

It not so critical what you get first; the first may or may not be great but you'll know if you want to persevere or not. Everyone gets 2 or 3 more different ones sooner or later.

TMF, drop the $100 on that 2 battery, 4 atty 510 kit that Kent C linked to. My roommate and I both have 510's with PCC's and swear by them. To be fair, I have no other basis for comparison.

I know it seems like a lot, but with the regularity of your smoking habbit that is really all you need, other than some juice to experiment with. You might get 1 more battery. I keep 3 in rotation during the day in case there is a hiccup with one of them or the PCC. I haven't been without the ability to vape yet, where there is a time or two I would have, had I only had the two batteries.
