Ok gonna get this off my chest before bed. Sorry family but it's eating at me.
I'm the oldest person at the shop I work at. (no names so no rules broken). Most of these kids are young enough to be my children and maybe even grand kids. It just pisses me off when I come in with a Provari, or a Legacy mechanical with a sub ohm wick I made. All I hear is they want one. I made some SS wicks for my nova's when we couldn't get em. I didn't sell em I just made my own. Now all I hear is I want, I want, How much to make me one.
I want a Provari like you, or I want one of your Legacy's, or a SB. I want a kick but please tell me what it is first?
I'm so feed up with this. I want a tank like yours. (Phiniac or IB tanks are all I use), Just got a Kanger Pro tank and now they all want one.
One actually said he was thinking about giving me a dollar for one of my Provari's. I told him it was ok to think, that was his right. He really took it to mean I would give him a Provari for a dollar, just because he thought about it. OMG.
Same questions. If I give you the money will you get me one. Same answer. Do you have a computer and internet at home.
Yes.
Then get it yourself just like I did.
Figure it out kids. It's called the WorldWideWeb for a reason. Don't depend on me to do it for your lazy ....
You want to build a wick then go to you tube. That's how this old man learned.
But I don't know how.
Then learn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok rant over. And all this after having to wear a respirator mask for the painter cause of the fumes messing with my COPD, and also haveing a dumb .... pull a gun at the cash register. OMG What are we going to depend on. These are the people that will take care of me when I'm to old to do it myself. Hell no I'll go out in a blaze of glory. With pride and a smile on my face. (I just hope she's pretty). Oh heck I already know she is so it's all covered.

Now about that Legacy, can I get you to order me one for a dollar???

We were poor when I was a kid. We had to figure stuff out. We made our own skateboard out of old parts we found. Pinned a towel to our back for a Superman cape.

No credit cards & no debt.

Not enough money to go to college? Get a job & pay as you go.

Not enough money for a car? Walk or take a bus.

Just an old Cowdog adding to the rant.

- Smile and Nod :)

I had plans to start doing this when I was 60, but folks are forcing me into it a bit early..........

(Smiles. Nods.)

I started developing my "crusty cantankerous old fart" personality when I hit 40.
Don't set your goals too low (or age too high)! It takes time...

See that's the thing, most kids now-a-days have everything they want, and want everything. They expect it to be provided by anyone and everyone but themselves, therefore do not learn the values of earning it on their own, most of that blame has to fall on the enablers, yes its really as simple as that.

I wonder....

Thinking about what it must be like for them...

When I was young...60/70's...things were ....simpler. I don't mean that from an idealistic standpoint, I mean, technology wise. Sure there was tech that I couldn't make or understand. And hand-crafted stuff. So it's not that you could "make everything". But it was simpler.

Now...it's normal for kids to go buy a 16 gb flash drive just to store some music, buy a disposable _______ (whatever). Everything is throwaway. Heck, a lot of people would starve if fast-food vanished from the planet...or "eat raw foods" instead.

Yet...the "kids" are really giving me hope. Those that "hack" stuff together (constructively). The way they all communicate these days. They have an awareness that we didn't. It causes them a lot of trouble, but keeps them aware of social issues earlier and helps them dispel "drivel". They have a much more open and less....biased...approach to things in this world.

I think they know how "the system" works. They know buy and sell. They know corp America has a lot of stuff locked up and on the market. They try it.

Look at the beverage "fusion" going on. Pineapple-coffee with energy boosters or whatever. lol. They are pretty dynamic.

But yeah...not as much craftsmanship these days. Working-with-hands. Sad. It's still there though. Look at what they (still) do to trick-out cars.

Yeah....here I quoted it but didn't comment on it very well. My "bad" as they say. :D But we are discussing making mods, or buying mods and doing research and "assembling the parts".

I take your point. On the other hand...seems to be the age old argument (and I've made it too) that they don't appreciate it, and "we" had it so hard, but "they" don't understand because they are "spoiled" and just expect stuff.

I guess there is a bit of a "owe me" sub-set of the society. Or maybe "know 'the system'" types. But...mostly...I don't think people want to be in that position. I really think they would all like an 8 hour 5 day/week job that has a livable wage and that the promise of education was fully realized.

Yet, what we have is a "service economy" and most of the jobs going overseas. And it's VERY HARD to actually get out there, find a job and earn a livable wage. Car insurance, gas, taxes, food are all sky high. It's sad. And I think it contributes to the "get what you can because the system is stacked" mentality.

So...I'm not sure they all think they are "owed". I do think they are probably a bit disappointed in US. I feel a bit like part of the "failure generation". My parents and grand parents were part of the "greatest generation". I'm part of the generation that actually sold the country a complete "bill of goods". That had "trickle down" and "Corporations are people" and the complete and utter corruption of congress. All while waving the flag. What have we left our kids?

There's another thread about the 1% and the economic divide. It talks about 1970 as compared to now. Really sad to see.

Bottom line: They SHOULD have tons of career options available to them, a thriving economy, reasonable costs. Instead they are the generation that "won't be as well off as its parents". I don't know who to blame. Us or them? But I think us. I think they are trying to get by. They don't know how. We've got to teach them. Show them how to make do, how to research, how to overcome.

Their world is filled with media. Telling them that an i-something is a must. According to the media, they have to be green and be global and be rich ...and they aren't rich.

So...that's a round about way of saying...we do owe them. Sort of. We got them here. Now we have to teach them to overcome and fix stuff.

I like this. Along with my opinion of, Whats up with kids these days?, I find this to be true.

So fly away peter and fly away paul. Yep I know my tull. best ther ever is or was.

It was a toss up Aqulalung BTO not fragile. Montrose , or Black Sabbath Master of Reality. I think I killed about equal brain cells to those 4 albums!

I here you...

Or should I say, I Kinda hear you. Because I blame Jethro Tull (as well as Zep, The Moody Blues, Ozzy, BOC, etc ) and Koss Headphones for my Partial Hearing Loss.

I've seen Tull about 10 times. I got a chance to shake Ian Anderson hand one time Backstage at the Anaheim Convention Center in 77 or 78. He asked me what I did around here? I told him mainly just Hang Out and Eat/Drink the Free Food/Booze. He Smiled and told me it was "Good Work if you can Get It.". LOL

Of course, the Early JT stuff is Classic. And it is Very Hard to say what is my Favorite Album (perhaps Songs From the Wood). But Very High on the List would be a Later work, Catfish Rising.

It is Rare that an Artist can make as many Album as Tull did over such a Long Period of Time and then lay down a Full Set of Tracks that have the Same Feel is they did in the Glory Days. If you have never sat down and Listened to Catfish Rising, I highly Recommend It.

How can you not like a song where a jet pack get taken from a snowman;-)

BTW - I think what Johnny Scarecrow stole from a Snowman was a "Jet Black Mac".
Mac = Raincoat

Haha. When I first read the title of this thread, I thought we had another battery issue on our hands. LOL

Glad it's just about the young'uns.

And the young uns need to learn to show some respect. If they can go to college, well I pray they can learn something.
But sadly enough most arnt smart enough to drive.
(I was an armed officer at a college so yes I know).

So many people here walked 5 miles to school, uphill both ways...

mine was a 3 mile walk both ways:p
i do believe that kids dont have the respect that most of us had as youngin's.(I'm 45)
i still respect my elders and say yes ma'am and no sir. i still learned how to build my own coils and roll wicks also.
Did i ask for advice? you betcha. but i did it myself and didnt tell someone else to figure it out for me.
That in my mind is what so many kids today lack. the drive to do it for them selves.
The bad part is, it is partly our fault because we inadvertently and most of us unwillingly let the government take away
the ability to discipline as we thought our children needed. darn shame too. i still remember folks saying it takes a village to raise
a child.
Remember doin something wrong and gettin it from your friends parents then getting it again when ya got home? lol
most of us turned out A-OK and productive members of society

Man Old Geezers are getting grumpier these days.

Nah!!! I see this at work all the time. Kids want everything right now and instant gratification. Either they have no patience to lazy to get of there butts to do something Or... maybe It's just me getting older

P.S. This doesn't go for all kids out there just the annoying ones :p
