Looooooong time member, first time poster! It's funny to see all these noobs with thousands of posts. :D I joined ECF back in 2009, and I've been lurking in the shadows ever since. Now that I'm increasing my e-cig usage, I figured it was about time I came out of the closet so I could add my point of view to the many threads I've read recently that have helped me in my journey.

Warning: the following contains language of a frank and explicit nature. Parental discretion is advised. ;)

My wife and I have been long-time closet smokers, due to society's (and our non-smoking friends') disdain for tobacco users. We've always been light smokers, with her smoking 2-3 cigarettes most days, and me with 4-5. Some days there would be no smoking due to lack of opportunity, and some days there would be more-- like if we were alone on vacation somewhere or the kids were gone for a few days. There's more to my story-- I am a fan of "smoking glamour"-- I like women who smoke. My wife is aware of this and has occasionally satisfied my fascination. ;) ;) For me, smoking was less about the nicotine and more about the visual and oral aspects. Of course, the nicotine sure helps to get your heart going. OK, enough about that.

Back in 2009, around the time I first joined ECF, I purchased a Joye 510 starter kit as my first step in the e-cig world. My wife thought it was odd, and it wasn't all I thought it would be back then, so I stashed it away for a while. It wasn't until we started vacationing in less-smoking-friendly locations that I again started looking into e-cigs as an alternative again.

I ended up purchasing a Vapor Couture setup on Black Friday a year ago, and have occasionally used it. The lousy battery life and limited compatibility wasn't an issue due to my light usage of it (while still smoking). It was the form factor I was most interested in, as it closely mirrored the sleek and slim style that we enjoyed in the Capris and Virginia Slims we smoked. (Yes, I'm a straight guy who liked slim cigarettes-- it's what I most enjoyed seeing my wife smoke.)

Earlier this summer, both of our employers announced they were implementing tobacco-user rates or surcharges for the company-sponsored group medical insurance. The good news was that my company defined the non-tobacco user as one who hasn't used tobacco more than 3 times in the past 6 months. My wife's company wasn't as generous, defining a non-tobacco user as having NO nicotine in the past 12 months, so we made the mutual decision to quit smoking, which we accomplished without any problems back in September. Since that time, I learned how to refill the VC cartos and purchased some Halo e-liquid samples in 0-nic, and this past Black Friday, I picked up another VC starter kit (for the extra charger and fresh batteries) and a Halo G6 starter kit with a couple of mini-tanks and some more sample flavors.

The only odd thing (to me) of my current situation is that my wife continues to see the e-cigarettes as "weird", and has never even tried a vape. I would never pressure her to start vaping, just as I did not pressure her into smoking-- she was already an occasional, closet smoker when we met. However, I have very little doubt that if I were to pick up some cigarettes for an adults-only weekend trip away, she would have no issue lighting up again (nor would I). Maybe if/when that happens, it will open up more dialog about using the e-cigs as an alternative.

Thanks for reading! I hope I can be of some benefit here to the closet smokers, closet vapers, and closet smoking glamour fans. So if you'll excuse me, I've got some catching-up to do with all you noobs and your thousands of posts.

BTW I think the members here are nice and helpful. Maybe too nice, from what I've seen. As a long-time forum & message board user (here and elsewhere), I've seen some recent newbies posting links out of the blue, and the membership here doesn't bat an eye. I tend to be a little more cynical in that regard and would immediately label that new member as a spammer. Maybe you're just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, which is commendable. I only hope I'm received as well as the spammers. :)

Nice to meet you!
Now that you've got that Halo setup, you can explore the wide world of juice flavors.
Maybe your wife will take a puff of "Voodoo" or "Malibu" and become interested...
:)
Thanks, Train. I do have sample sizes of Malibu and several other Halo juices-- Mystic, Sub-Zero, Kringle's Curse, Twisted Java, and Shamrock. I also have 4 ECBlends samples. All of them are 0-nic, but I may need to pick up some 0.6% of something for when I want a little buzz behind it. I still have some of the VC cartos in 0.6%.

Hi tk! Glad you finally came out of the shadows.

Next time you are filling up a cart at Halo, grab a tobacco sampler tin. I assure you that there is very little "tobacco" and a whole lot of great flavors to vape included. Tribeca is my absolute favorite and I consider it a "can't miss" juice, as in don't-miss-out-on-this-great-flavor. ;)

Unfortunately, Halo doesn't offer the sampler tins in 0%-nic. Maybe if I treat myself to some 0.6%, I'll grab a sampler tin.

But thanks, and may the schwartz be with you! ;)

They do offer individual 7ml samplers which are available in zero nic. Add a Tribeca sampler to your next cart. ;)

Those vapor couture cigs look really nice. How do they hit? I've already got an MVP 2 and two ego sized batteries, but I find I've been wanting something smaller and cute. Love my MVP 2 and while I know I won't get that performance from a cigalike, but if I just want a stealthy nic fix, I figure I may as well just go for something pretty. The price however.... Wow.

Not too bad, but I usually vape 0-nic juice in the carts I refilled. That's the key-- since their flavor selection is limited, you need to refill the cartos. The batteries I bought this Black Friday might be a little better, as they seem to have more power right off the charger (but I'm comparing to batteries that are a year old with occasional use), and they are about 3mm longer that the older ones.

Yeah, that's why I bought them during the 25% off sale stacked with a 10 or 15% off code. They also included a freebie of their new disposable. It's a 1-piece design that's even sleeker than the rechargeables (the website says 88.9mm long but I measured them at 118.2mm L x 7.4mm diam) , but they only come in a 1.2% strength. It packs a punch, though-- at least to me. And it's even pricier than the standard rechargeables at $8-9 each in quantity.

I tried those things (Vapor Coutures) back in Sept. - thought they were really attractive, etc. For me, (a complete newbie at that point, pre-eGo even) they were still a bit on the anemic side - I still wanted to smoke. But the deal killer was the QC - they would not recharge. I sent 3 back, received replacements, the replacements wouldn't recharge. I wasn't about to play that game over and over and threw the whole bunch of stuff in the trash! Then I tried V2s, which I found more satisfying. I soon discovered ECF and eGos and tried an eGo, that's what finally made me no longer want to smoke. But I still have the V2s and even use them once in a while.

But as for the VCs, unless they have done some major improvement on them, I would not advise anyone to spend the money on them. Just my experience (but I read reviews after the fact where others had also had the same experience with recharging problems.)

I feel your pain about the insurance surcharge. I was a "serious" tobacco user and wanted to quit. The insurance premium increase definitely convinced me to stop. I wish you luck with convincing your wife to try vaping. Everyone I work with made fun of my "flashlights" at first. Now the humor is turning into curiosity.

Welcome and "hi" ...another lurker here. I've been reading this forum for several months, and finally decided to take the plunge and join a few days ago. This is an awesome forum...nothing out there compares :) The very first e-liquid I ordered online was the Halo Tobacco Sampler. Prime 15 is still my fav, but Malibu rocks too. I'm not ready yet for all the fruity flavors. Malibu is the first fruity one that I actually can vape and feel satisfied. The mint/menthol gives it body and TH. Voodoo is "mysterious" and strong. I love it, but only mixed with other juices to tone it down, then it's really good.
