That is an awesome device you have concocted there Gummy Bear! I am really a big fan of the appearance. It is rough and elegant at the same time. I would love to hear some details about the unit between the mouthpiece and the battery housing!

BTW don't add a skin... wrap the battery in red tape and write "TNT" on it .

edit.
In picture 1, is that a barrel cap on top of the booster?

Yes, 100uF 35v. there are 2 of them. one between Vin and GND and the other between GND and Vout. I used most of the layout that Nuck posted. but the booster chip is naked, so far. I need to change that. I am having a hard time finding the 82k resistor that I want to use to get it down to somewhere around 4.4v. I don't seem to have one here and rat shack only has 100k. I use to pay .002 cents per resistor the rat shack wants $1 for 5 and if I order on line for 10 cents I'd be looking at 5 bucks for shipping. Damn it,,,,,,,

A shout out to Asdaq for a lot of help and answers to dumb questions.

I would think that an 1/8 watt would be fine the output current doesn't pass through it, it's only to fool the chip into a lower voltage. The samples I 1st asked for 8" to 10 inches ,, he sent a foot. Then with an email explaining my problem fitting everything into the small 5/8" he sent a 3/4" and a 7/8" so he is rather liberal with the samples.

AAAhhhhhh, that's better, got that sweet spot now. I think I just found my new "Go To" PV.

I got lucky, the local TV repair shop had one that he was willing to part with but, He couldn't understand why I wouldn't just go buy an E-Cig. "You know, they have them now that Looks just like a real one,, I've seen them". he said.

Anyway,,,, if anybody wants to know, the 82K ohms = 4.5 volts

She still needs a name.

Glad you found the sweet spot resistor. I saw them for that several pennies price range.

Wonder what the LC indicates...

A question about the TI booster and an 18650 combo. I'm trying to stress test a 32G kanthal coil of about 1.7-1.8 Ohms, with a straight 18350 it works fine, but with the boosted 18650 it either doesn't respond or if I'm lucky whines a bit and fires about 1 second. Is this to be expected?

The specs say "Up to 12 W Output Power". Whining means it's starved for current. The battery needs more ooph. And remember you are boosting, so if the atty wants 2.5A the battery will have have to provide more than that depending on the voltage/boost, I'm surprised Gummi isn't having problems with that high resistance UF batt. But we don't know what resistance/amps/watts he's at.

As an example to get 8W @ 4.4V you need about 1.8A. For that 8W the 3.7V cell would need to output about 2.2A (I think that's right).
