Others have accurately pointed out the compatibility issue with Halo hardware: Without a $2.99 adaptor, available at a gazillion places online or any well-stocked vape shop, you'll be stuck using Triton tanks, LIKE FOREVER. Oh, the horror!!! :)

Halo has a very good reputation for quality hardware and customer service. But the threading is so rare, that you'll never be able to experience the multitudes of cheap clearomizers available on the open market, only to return to the Triton tanks for better flavor and vapor production.

You can get an eGo starter kit cheaper, with one battery and one clearomizer, as opposed to the built-in redundancy with the Halo Triton kit. You can save around 40 semolians (what does a carton of cigarettes cost where you live?) and put all of your proverbial eggs into one basket! Who really needs a backup anyway???

Nanny2, I'm not being nasty here. I think you'll find that most of the folks around here who are experienced with Halo really love Halo. I bought no less than 4 Halo Triton kits for friends and relatives this holiday season. Three have quit, and the other has cut down significantly.

Full disclosure: I quit analog cigarettes the same day my Halo Triton unit arrived.

No one is bringing up the other HUGE difference: PRICE!!

The Halo starter kit is $65!, for basically two standard Ego 650mah batteries, and two plastic CE4s

USA Vape Shop has a double kit with the same stuff, but 900mah batteries (all no name) for $21. Here: Ego double 900mah starter kit with case

If you are into name-brand stuff (Kanger, Smok, Vision, Joyetech, etc), you can piece together a nice double kit with pyrex BCC tanks for less than $65. And that would be easier to use, of similar quality, and perform much better than the Halo Tritons.

Thanks so much for the feedback, and I can tell I may have opened a little can of worms here with the comparison -- sorry, I didn't know! I like that you folks are passionate about what you like, and what you don't. I can trust you for an honest answer! I called our two fairly local smoke shops -- the only starter kits they sell are Blu, Tsunami and Solo. They said they had lots of liquids though, and a few other things I might be interested in looking at, if the darn SNOW would just STOP, maybe I could check it out. I am still wide open to suggestions ;)

Take your time deciding. You will hear so many different opinions on new set ups. I researched for 3 weeks before I decided to go with Halo, my best friend went to a local B&M and bought an EVod cuz it was cheaper. Long story short, she had so many issues with it she bought a Triton VV 2 weeks later. She gave away all her EVod gear just last week.

It's all preference. Everyone is saying the Halo isn't compatible with other tanks. For those who don't use a Triton don't realize there's really no need for another tank because the one Halo sells works great! I have currently over 28 tanks and 15 loaded right now and haven't had to throw away one yet in over 5 months. I change coils out but the tanks last a long time. I have 7 Halo batts, three are VV and I do wish I just went for the VV to begin with. I recently upgraded to a mod, but still use my Tritons every day.

Also, which you won't know yet what you like, some people prefer cool vapes and some warm. I prefer warm so I like top coil. My friend found out the hard way, with the EVod it is a bottom coil and a cool vape. She also had four leaking tanks in two weeks and a batt that died in three weeks. All my batts are running perfect.

Good luck and just remember the main goal is to get off of analogs anyway you can! And stay warm up there in Michigan!!! My inlaws lived in Novi for awhile but now in Muskegon. Ton of snow up there!!!

lol. I just ran into this thread. I am also discovering that people are very passionate about their hardware!
I don't speak from experience because I've been vaping all of 7 days, all I can offer is an opinion on what I have and how it's worked for me.

I have the Halo triton system and it is great so far. I don't have a point of comparison but it hasn't broken down and I have not picked up a cigarette since it came in the mail so there you go. for me, it's worked.

I am blessed and fortunate enough to not have to stress about the price of the Halo, I went by what I read online about the reliability and quality of their products and so far the product matches the reviews.

Is there probably a bunch of better stuff out there? of course. am I going to buy some of that in the future? guaranteed. Does my halo work flawlessly? Yes.

Right on. You just laid out everything I would have written but for one bit that everyone's already mentioned: the threading issue. After trying a few different brands, the first "system" that ever really got me off smoking was a Smokeless Image Volt (mini-cig, 808) set-up. Worked well, decent vapor. Easy, etc.

Then I wanted a more powerful battery so I could move away from carts and enjoy longer battery life as well. Smokeless Image offers a 650mah/900mah/1300mah battery with passthrough, so I got that. I was happy. But then came the compatibility issues. And there were loads of them. And as soon as I invested in the number of batteries I needed, I'd be putting more money into a system that would always be difficult to pair with new tanks and other devices.

Switched to Ego-C Twists. Bunch of different tanks later and I'm very happy. For now. ;)

********************
ps. Unrelated to OP's question. Directed at ppl nostalgic for hands-free vaping: Still have the Smokeless Image Volt X2, 2+ years later. Still going strong. And it does work with EVODs and Kanger ProTanks and Unitanks, etc. (Screw onto the outside threads and don't tighten all the way.) So right now I'm typing with both hands and blowing out clouds of vapor. I hunted up the X2 one day when I really wanted to vape hands-free.

I own both. The Halo is fine but, like others have said it is very limiting. You will be confined to Halo, Smokeless Image, a few devices made specifically for 808/ego threading.

The Evod is also good, but there are hundreds of devices that can be used with that 510/ego battery and hundreds of vendors. You can accomplish the same thing as the Halo Triton by simply buying a Kanger T2 clearomizer and using it on the evod 510/ego battery. The Triton tank is just a T2 with slightly different threading. So with the evod, you get the best of both worlds.

Nanny22,
What I think you want is something that works, works very well day after day, looks right to you, delivers the satisfaction (that makes you wonder why you didn't do this long ago) that keeps you off cigs, and will be easy to maintain. And something you'll be proud to own.

One thing not mentioned here is customer service. I can't speak for the other brands, but Halo customer service is excellent. Halo support has been great!! I had a bad tank, a new one was on it's way in a few days. You can easily find threads from batteries replaced to full refunds. If you aren't satisfied, Halo will refund until 30 days.

You have a choice. Go with the other kits recommended, or the Halo Triton. If you like to tinker, try this and that, there are a lot of tanks, cartos, carto tanks, atomizers, etc. They all have their good and bad points. The other kits recommended will do just fine.

Or the Triton. Yes, you are somewhat limited to what delivery system will fit, but to paraphrase what AngiBe said, why? The Triton tanks are superb. They work, day after day. I have 7 tanks, and just recently needed to get replacement coils (after almost 3 months of heavy use!!!). They rarely leak, or gurgle, or dry hit. I just vape, heavily, with a smile!!! It gives great vapor, throat hit, and superb flavor. With the replacement heads, they will last you as long as you want. The downside is there is no glass, so their might be some juices you can't try. But as Joe13 so aptly said, a $3 adapter lets you use a pyrex tank.

I also started like you did, Blu and Logic cig-a-lik. Then I did a lot of research, and I'm so glad I got a Triton. (Irridesence, 650mah. the 650 with tank feels good in my hand, well balanced. With the tank, it's 5.5 in. The 400mah is a half inch shorter, but I thought the batt life was important) After 2 months, I got a variable volt Halo battery. After a while, you might as well.

I've been smoking and quitting for almost 40 years, and the Triton has got me to 100 days, and I feel I will never smoke again. I couldn't say that before.

You didn't mention price, but for me, I wanted to buy a system. Period. Something I buy once, and would last. Halo has been compared to Apple. The stuff is proprietary, it's stylish, well made, more expensive, and works great.

If price is an issue and you want to save 30 or 40 bucks, go with the others. But for the price of 5 packs of cigs, I'd go with Halo.

They will refund you after 30 days. Nanny22, if after 60 days, if you aren't satisfied, I'll buy your kit from you. There. (I don't work for Halo. And I don't think this is risky at all!)

The choice is yours. And we all will support you, whatever your choice. Cause we all love your choice to quit smoking!!!

I quit smoking with a Halo Triton kit. I needed something easy to use and reliable, and the Triton was it. My original batteries from last May still work as if new. I now have 8 VV and 2 of every other size. I'm yet to find a tank as easy to fill, use and as reliable as the Triton tanks, and I have since acquired quite a bit of other hardware. I use my Tritons every day. Proprietary threading wasn't an issue- I have other hardware to test things out on; large tanks would be far too heavy for an ego-sized battery. Had I started out on fiddly toppers- like ProTank 2s or carto tanks, which have a learning curve, I wouldn't have quit smoking.

:)

Not to beat a dead horse buuuuut....

The market for these devices is overwhelming. So many choices for a newbie. Where do you even begin?

The objective is to quit analogs, right? I think newbies would benefit most from a dependable system that works with the least amount of frustration involved (we are ex-smokers - the last thing we need is something that's gonna annoy us!). For this reason, I and others like me are passionate about recommending the Halo Triton.

You can easily save a few bucks and get a cheaper starter kit. And you'll generally get what you pay for. Even worse though, your impression of the entire vaping experience may be tainted by cheap and unreliable hardware. I bought a Blu starter kit at Walgreens years ago, and it wasn't anywhere near satisfying. So I kept smoking for two more years, even after dropping $50 on that piece of crap. I think I speak for everyone on this forum when I say that's the last thing we want to happen to you. We don't wanna see you on the message boards saying "Vaping sucks! I bought an $18 starter kit and it broke after two weeks and leaked in my purse."

You can spend A LOT more, and get a Provari or a Reo. Are you ready to drop over $200 on this now, before you even try using it to quit analogs? If so, and you're not afraid of the learning curve with these "advanced" devices, then I say go for it! Start with the best and don't look back. For me though, that's a steep price of admission into this thing we have here. It need not be that expensive initially.

I think Halo hits the sweet spot of quality and price. I recommend the Triton tank system to all newbies. The batteries are good quality, they charge quickly, and a single 650mAH lasts me all day. A tank system gives you flexibility to try a lot of flavors to figure out what you like. And once you find those flavors, vaping becomes MORE enjoyable than smoking cigarettes ever was. You'll wanna vape instead of smoke, and that's the ultimate goal here.

I used my Triton exclusively for two months. I then got the $3 adaptor so I could use a pyrex Protank. Recently, I picked up an iTaste vv and an Aspire BDC. I also use an IGO W RDA (Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer) to test liquids that I mix myself. But I still use my Triton every day.

I too started out with a Halo Triton starter kit. It got me 98% off analogs, but the vapor the Trition tanks produced wasn't dense and satisfying enough to get me over needing just one analog somewhere around mid-morning. Also, the 400 mAh batteries that I started with didn't cut it for me. They were fine fresh off the charger, but not so fine after a couple of hours of use. Anyway, I wasn't able to give up that last analog of the day until after I visited a local B&M and they hooked me up with some better tanks and beefier batteries. I still own and use the Halo hardware that I started out with, it is indeed reliable, but the fact that there's no interchangeability between it and the 510/eGo connection that's become an industry standard (i.e. that everything else on the market uses) bugs me.

After having tried lots of other stuff, what I'd recommend as a pre-packaged starter kit today is the Innokin iTaste VV V3 full kit. It's about $65. Yes, you only get one battery, but it does everything (variable voltage, variable wattage, ohm-checking, etc) and it's a pass-through that you can charge while you're using it from any Micro-USB cable. If you use an Android phone, chances are you already have such cables just about everywhere (like next to your bed, at your desk, and in your car). This kit also comes with five iClear 16 tanks. That allows you to have a bunch of different flavors of juice in a rotation. Those tanks produce a much thicker and more satisfying vape than the Halo tanks. The disadvantage is that these tanks use juice much more quickly than the Halo tanks, but hey, you can't get lots of vapor without using lots of juice. :D

I am so thankful for all your responses and impressed with how willing everyone is to help a newbie! I pulled the trigger on the Halo Triton in the Iridescence color last night. I got two 650 Mah batteries, an extra 900 mah battery, a pack of 5 coils and a larger bottle of Tribeca liquid. Then I hopped over to Nicoticket and ordered a big bottle of H1N1 and Creme Brûlée, along with a small bottle of Gravity. My nephew was here visiting and he placed an order for an Innokin set up - I'm trying to convince everyone I know who smokes to give this a shot! After all, that really is the important part, right? Anyway, within an hour Nicoticket had sent a shipping confirmation and this morning I got another from Halo. WOW! My nephew ordered liquids as well, so we can sample each other's, which will be nice. Experimenting with the flavors will be fun for me, I am really into scents - scented candles and waxes.....(Think Yankee Candle on steroids) so I know I will go a little crazy with the flavors!! Thank you all again for your help, I wouldn't have had a clue what we should order without this forum. I look forward to letting you all know how it goes, and also learning more about this whole new world! My only regret is that I didn't know sooner~

Just for info.

The Triton tank is almost identical the the Kanger T2. The standard T2 will fit and work on the Halo battery (with a tiny gap), but the Triton tank will not fit on a regular 510/ego battery, The replacement heads are identical, so you can buy replacement heads (and T2 tanks for that matter) at many places and save some money.

The great thing about the standard T2 is that it fits on almost everything...I use them on my Halos, my Smokeless Image, my Egos, and my mods with ego threading.

I don't have anything against Halo, just think they are overpriced.

Thanks for the info Grimwald -- good to know! The kit was a little more pricey than some of the others, but the kit and everything else I bought still worked out to be less than the amount I would spend on two cartons of my old analog cigs. SO FAR..... anyway! I can see this could be a dangerous *hobby* very easily. I've been looking around online and there is some serious BLING and accessorizing possibility that I knew nothing about!

Yes! ECF surfing can put havoc on your wallet! I'm always impressed what the ladies have come up with making their PVs so blingy and pretty! But I have zero talent in the artsy stuff so I just look from afar.
