Man i'm getting tired of these sore throats. I'm 26, quit analog cigarettes about 2.5 years ago have not picked one up since I started vaping. Everytime I attempt to research this all the pages say the same thing "Its normal to develop a sore throat when you initially switch from analog to e-cig" the problem is it's been nearly 3 years! This march. I develop a sore throat every 5-6 weeks of normalness then get hit by a sore/tight throat for that usually lasts about a week/week and a half, and this start about 6 months after starting to vape.

I vape max VG only, and 2mg (yes 2mg) or Nic strenght. I only drip. my setup currently is a IPV D2, with a Hellboy dripper. I always rock the same build because I only enjoy "cool" vapes. a dual coal 0.5-0.6 ohms at around 28-32 Watts (3.9-4.2v).

I know the guy that has become really huge in my area and supplys all the vape stores around here with their juice and I buy directly from him. Even tho he has become a big supplier he will still do my custom orders for me.. 2mg nic (normally he only do the normal 3/6/12/18 etc) and I also always get him to cut the juice to about 70% of the normal flavourings he puts in because I know most flavourings contain the majority of the PG which I thought may be causing the problems.

I have been to the doctors, even since I have started vaping I enlarged papillae (bumps on back of tongue, he says its not a real concern. Everything else has been normal and he swabs for bacterial infections every time I have been to him (about 3 times) and the only suggestion is I quit.

I love Nicotine and scared of going back to analog especially with two children I do not want to stink, I enjoy the habit of vaping/smoking. But this is becoming a really big issue, nobody wants to deal with a sore throat that lasts nearly two weeks every six or so weeks. Have tried other brand of max VG and they seem to increase the rate at which I get the sore throats thats why I have stuck with my current vendor so long because his seems to keep them away the longest.

Anyways sorry for the long read, any ideas would be appreciated.

PS: I never vape without drinking something in my hand, usually water.. I had this habit when I smoked too, would ALWAYS have to be drinking something while I did it. So I don't think its a hydration issue, easily drink close to 2L of water a day more more.

You're drinking too much water. The whole "eight glasses of water or more a day" thing is a myth. What is a "glass?" Nobody knows, it's not an actual unit of measurement. But you're drinking enough to qualify for 8, 8 oz glasses (64 oz total) and nobody needs anywhere near that much water unless you're doing vigorous physical activity and pouring sweat for multiple hours a day.

Too much water strips your mouth and throat, weakening the mucous membrane barrier, so everything's more vulnerable to infection and feeling sore. It also prevents your saliva from doing everything it's supposed to do to keep a healthy mouth, and that's a lot, including regulating bacteria and viruses, and maintaining the proper PH. Saliva is a miracle substance, but drinking that much water it's all getting washed away. That can also lead to sore throats and tonsils even when you're not infected with an actual pathogen. Your doctor is testing for things like strep, but if it's just your own natural microbiome gone out of wack by too much water then that wouldn't show up.

Before you look for any other culprit I think you need to try cutting your water intake drastically. Drink only when you're thirsty, and if habit is telling you you're still thirsty after a liter of water in a single day, ignore it. I'd say give that 3-4 weeks and see if things improve before you worry about it potentially being a VG sensitivity or something.

Yeap, water in food counts as water too, so if you eat a bunch of grapes you definitely won't need as much, it changes depending on what temperature zone you're in as well, a canadian in winter won't need as much water as someone is a really hot place..

Sorry to hear that you're having these issues Simpdogg. I have a sore throat/head cold right now and it definitely sucks. My wife had it about a week before I got it so I know where it came from. I would not want this to happen every six weeks!

I've been vaping for over three years now and I've found I get only a couple of colds a year. I've vaped mixes that were almost all VG and now I've been at 95% PG for a couple of months. I have not had any sore throat issues from any of these mixes. When I get a sore throat it doesn't get nearly as bad as when I was smoking or last as long. Nic irritates my throat a bit so I'm staying away from that until I'm feeling better.

Do you have only a sore throat, or do you also have cold symptoms like runny nose, stuffed up sinuses, etc? Generally colds/sore throats are caused by viruses not bacteria and bacterial infections like strep throat are complications that can happen later.

If it's just a sore throat I would look at the possibility it's coming from an allergy or a sensitivity to something in your juice. That can happen after using something for a while even if it didn't bother you at first. If that's what is happening I would change juice manufacturer for a while and see if that helps. You could also vape unflavored nic base with just VG/PG in it for a while. That would eliminate the flavorings and leave only the VG/PG and nic to consider.

If you're getting colds, virus infections, I would look at other things rather than vaping. Your doctor should be able to tell if your symptoms are from a cold or something else. You could have an issue that's completely unrelated to vaping and if that's the case you would be better off to find out about it sooner rather than later. Your doctor should really be involved with this and if he/she doesn't help you, I would find another doctor.

Keep drinking lots of water. Three liters of water per day (twelve 8 ounce glasses) is my minimum now that I've got the cold.

I know I didn't help much, but that's all I've got. Best of luck with it :thumb:

There is so much wrong in your post tedigram, I don't know where to start.

So I'll just say this; drinking lots of water every day will not cause any of the issues you talked about. Where are you getting that 'information' from? The recommended water intake is actually three liters (twelve 8 glasses) per day for men these days. Check this out from the Mayo clinic.

IMO, they know what they're talking about :)

I hate to break it to you, but the Mayo Clinic is wrong. Or, more accurately, the Mayo clinic's web team is wrong. Physicians are as susceptible as anybody to old wive's tales and anecdotal "common knowledge."

Have you had your tonsils checked? You may be getting tonsillitis, or tonsil stones. I used to be at the doctor 2 or 3 times a month with illness, and my tonsils were so messed up that when I finally went to see an ENT doctor, he was taken aback by the sight of them and scheduled me to have them removed the next day. After a really horrible surgery recovery (having your tonsils out as an adult is not the cakewalk it is when getting it done as a kid....) I now only get sick 1 to 3 times a year, like a normal person. I'd maybe go to an ENT doctor and get checked out.

When I first started diy liquid I played with ratios going as high as 90% VG but after a week I started getting a wheezy chest and my throat was very sore, long story short I have ended up at a ratio of 60\40 PG & VG as any higher with VG and it has adverse affects we all have our levels and yours might have changed. Try different ratios give unflavoured a go and also consider other concentrate company's your answer may be in one of those or a combinatuon. Whatever it is I hope you get it sorted and can continue enjoying your vaping.

Going to give this an honest shot thanks. One of the few things I don't think I have tried as I just assumed it was the pg.

True; I had mine out when I was 17, and I went from 2-4 tonsillitis infections every year to... zero. The only thing that gives me a sore throat now is either bad sinus problems (like with a really bad cold) or actual strep -- which I've had exactly once since getting the tonsils out.

30w might be a cool vape with max air. But compared to my 8w tootle puffing sounds warm to me. Hotter Vapes tend to give me a sore throat at times. I doubt that's uncommon either. I vape 70pg/30 vg at 24 mg and if I start to get a sore throat I switch to 65/35vg and 18mg that helps me. Higher vg tends to make my lungs feel congested so that's not for me.
