I'm aware that there are no stupid questions, but more than once I have been called Mistress of the Bloody Obvious.

I have an RM2 (i haz builded a coil! super_x is running neck and neck with Baditude for the position of Totally Groovy God I worship). Anyway, a burnt taste would be, like, duh...but does a cotton wick do anything else to indicate it needs to be changed? Like not soak up enough liquid and the vapor is weaker? Or it seems like you have to hit it harder? Does it whimper? I'm new at this and no idea how long a wick is supposed to last. I'm using 70pg/30vg, so it doesn't gunk up any of my devices. I also only vape one juice, so I wouldn't notice if it was retaining one flavor to another.

Also, I have a birthday coming up if anyone would like to PIF me another RM2. I am really liking it and with this birthday the biggest thing I'm going to get is a discount at Denny's.

When flavors change and don't taste as pure any longer, it's time to change your wick. That's one indicator.

In your device you can visually inspect pretty easily. Dirty or discolored wick should be changed when it looks bad. After 30 ml or so, my silica wicks are disgusting. In my case, all my flavorings are colorless and build up only minimally, so you may go through less liquid (or more!) before needing a change.

Flavor's usually the way I do it.

I've never, ever had a cotton wick last for a week LOL

With Gorilla Juice at the end of each day both my wick and coil look absolutely disgusting - but it still tastes good. Nonetheless I dry burn and put in a new wick.

I've been vaping the last couple of days on a DIY with very light flavoring, and it still looks good. But I doubt I'll get a week out of it - still, time will tell.

Well I for one started using Bamboo for my wick and ceramic. I started using the Bamboo a couple of months ago and I really like it it doesn't have the yuk taste of cotton to me. I'm using ceramic now and like it too. The Bamboo and ceramic neither have the yuk taste of cotton and the ceramic has the lasting power of nothing else. The Bamboo can be sourced from Walmart.com Aunt Lydias number 10 size Bamboo and delivered to your local Walmart very cheap too under three bux. Ceramic is more costly around 8 bux a foot although it is out of stock at the better site to buy it from. READYxWICK™ is the site people are moving to because of the longer baking time and heat used in the kiln. The 2mm is the size to pick up when it becomes available again.

Hey ocelot! Haven't seen you around here. I just wanted to add. With summer coming up you might need to put in that reducer tube that came with the reo. When moving from cooler temps to hotter outside temps your reo may start autofeeding. If that happens, its because your juice is thin. The reduced tube helps slow it down so no autofeeding will occur. Oh and I change my wicks after a couple days. Starts tasting funky around then.

i never got more than 2 days from cotton in an RM2. But i run low Ω coils. I run silica all the time now for a week at a time, when i change it just because it's my routine.

A friend sent me some silica to try, but I'm not sure what size I should use. My attention span it too short for most of the youtube videos I've found and in the end they seem more like "look at the killer clouds," rather than useful info. I realize everything is personal opinions and preferences, but at least if you tell me what you think I won't have to sit here listening to a heavy metal intro and some kid who starts his video with "Yo."

LOL That's how I feel about half the you tube videos I come across :p

I have 2ml silica that won't fit in coils made with my 16 gauge needle. I did use 6 strands of bamboo a few times, but I found it swelled up and choked my wick after a day. I guess I could use less strands, but just haven't done it!

Yo Ocey!

I fold mine in half and drag it thru the coil with with some more wire - this is not a RM2, but you get the idea, and these are not SXD micros either, but you get the idea!

Thanks for the tips, those both sound interesting, but what in the heck does Walmart sell Bamboo for? Is it the garden department? Flower arranging? I think the only thing I have ever seen made out of bamboo at Walmart were place mats and Tiki Torches (available seasonally). Both of those sound wrong for some reason, but then I used to vape aquarium filters, so one can never be sure.

I get the concept Dude, but I think she sent me 2mm and 3mm or maybe 2 strands and 3 strands, I don't remember and I don't know where it is. Should I just guess and stick in what seems to fit?

I do the same, with 2mm silica. I stepped up one tiny size in coil to make the folded 2mm work perfectly without all the pressure pulling.
