Hello, ReoVille!

I have a question that I'm sure my friends over here can answer. I'm in love with this little Reo and right now I am using a cyclone rda, but I'm soon receiving a RM2 as a gift. But right now the question is for the cyclone.

I'm having to wick this thing with KGD every day, is this normal? I follow Super_x_Drifter's method to a T so I don't have too much cotton in the coils. I get a dry hit after the first initial hit if I let it stay that way and don't wick it. Whereas I get 3-4 good hits on fresh KGD.

Is it normal to have to wick it every day?

Thank you,
Dani

I vape 6 ml per day - 1.1 ohm coils (two of them in the RM3 or one of them in the RM2--- either way, same coils - 2mm id 6 wraps of 29 ga). I rewick every 2 or 3 nights before bed no matter if it needs it or not... and more often than not, it really doesn't need it. Once in a while, I'll scorch my wick letting it get too dry. That generally results in a need to re-wick as immediately as possible... but generally speaking, I think I would expect my KGD wicks to be at least capable of 5-7 days if I do my part and keep them wet.

Hmmm. My coils are at 1.2 ohms. I squonk quite a bit, I would say more often than the average Reonaut because I'm so new. I wonder what in the world I'm doing wrong?

I've noticed what seem like 'Dry hits' using KGD and cotton sometimes. After playing around, if I raise my coil, the 'dry hits' go away and I can take nice long hits again. It's amazing just how coil placement can dramatically change the vape and flavor.

Great. With my next build I will raise it a bit, just below the screws. Thanks for the reply.

You can lift or lower the coils without rebuild if you use something slightly smaller than the coil size and gently move up or down. Be sure to check the screws for tightness after adjusting.
Also, I personally squonk before each and every hit out of habit. I never get dry hits that way. Because the cyclone and rm2 are small and don't use much cotton, I find I can't get 2 or more hits from 1 squonk usually.

Dani,
I don't know much about the Cyclone, other than seeing others' build pics, but I've been having a similar problem with my Zenith V2. I'm not using KGD, but I am using some other brand of Japanese cotton.
I've tried several things, short wick, long wick, thinner wick, thicker wick, high coils, low coils, coils out far, coils in close, nothing seems to work.
Just moments ago, I've found what's working for me now.
The cotton cloud. I took the long sides of my wick, the sides furthest away from the cap walls, and kinda folded them under the coil. I have the other sides just barely touching the deck (obviously a dual coil setup, but the cloud works for single as well).
What was happening before, is that I would get dry hits, pop off the cap, and still have juice in the well. Now, I can chain vape with dense flavor & vapor, and when I get a dry hit and pop off the cap, it is definitely dry.

Hmmm? I don't know what method Russ uses with KDG so can't comment on how you are wicking. Can offer my experience with KDG though...

I easily vape 20-25ml every day/night, so the wicks on my every day Reos get used for long hours, and with my very long lung hits they get hit pretty hard. I've been using KGD for about 9-10 months, my favorite of all the cotton's I've ever tried. It wicks faster than every other cotton I've used except Cellucotton. But MVLL hits make pretty short work of CC, will burn them in half in 2-3 days. KDG will work for a week at least in my atty's I don't rotate liquids in, and that includes the sub ohm coil builds (I generally build between .5 and 1.2 ohm for most of my liquids, 1.7 for one of them, do single/dual and twisted builds). I have 2 Cyclones, one that has always ran KDG, the other did as well but now runs RxW. The one that still uses the KDG I'd bet the current wick is way over a week old. I use it part of every day/night and it is still just fine (it's a .59 ohm build). It's on a Reo I do rotate liquids on, but I only change the liquid in it every 2-3 days and don't have to rewick with most liquid changes (unless the wick or coil dictates otherwise, is gunked up/needs to be dry burned/cleaned or rewicked). I have had pretty much the same experience with KDG in all my atty's for the Reos (RM2's, RM3's, Atomic, Nuppin's, a bunch more... was the same in all my GP Herons, By Leo Sopia's I used in carto tanks, and all the drippers. KDG has been the easiest wicks until I got on the RxW bandwagon a few weeks ago. So I'll always use it in the atty's that don't get dedicated to RxW.

That's great advice, thank you! I didn't think about the "curling" method.
