Surprised that they're giving out Nic gum to kids though...You'd think the 'patch' would be a better option.

I am outraged that a school is allowed to give out the gum at all!! Ya know, it was bad enough when schools started handing out condoms. Maybe we think differently in the south (there's no maybe to it-we do), but I believe it is a parents responsibility to teach children about life. I had "the talk" with all three of my children, the made condoms available when they were of an age to need them.

One out of three of my children smoke and I knew when they started. I think the government is taking way too much responsibiltiy for raising our children. I just don't think the schools should be able to give anything to my children that I am not aware of.

Seriously if you have kids, especially boys. You KNOW they are not listening to a word you say half the time and it's forgotten in 5 mins, they will share and it's in gum form. They are gonna chew the crap out of it.
Another example of rabid know better than you nannies. well oopsies we darn near killed your kid but it's better than them smoking .
How about you simply inform the parent and then let them deal with the problem ? Then they can choose with Dr. help the proper dosage for their age, weight, then if they want the gum, chantrix or whatever method they would like to use and can administer without handing a kid a pack of candy-like killer product..

The school gave out the gum, but it was another kid that gave it to the OD victim.
This happened in Great Britain BTW.
Seems crazy for a school to hand out drugs. Here in CA a kid gets expelled for just bringing a Tylenol to school . . .

So, one one hand the anti smokers claim that cigarettes are the biggest killer ever. On the other hand, those people pass out a drug that obviously can kill to school kids and advertise the suicide inducing drug, Chantix as a wonder drug. At least smoking has age restrictions, and I don't believe anyone can OD on nicotine while smoking.

When I was in school, the school nurse couldn't even give us a Tylenol with out written permission from home. Now they can't even do that.

Wait a minute? Schools can't give out condoms but they can give out gum with an addictive substance in it?

This article does bring one thing to light: Nicotine itself, no matter how delivered, should be what is given an age restriction. (I also feel this way about Caffeine/Tourine beverages... but that's another thread).

It's crazy that the ecig is being attacked by these very groups as being "sold to children" when these groups are "giving to children".
