Cigarette smoke contains MAOI antidepressants in very small doses. Mostly, though, it's habituation. When you started smoking, you probably didn't just smoke a pack a day.

And if you're taking the antidepressants at the recommendation of a GP, find a psychiatrist. General practitioners do not know enough about psychiatry to figure out what's going on. Period.

Ah, yep that explains it then. Smoking was suppressing some extreme environmental stress for me. I will admit that the anxiety got so bad that now I'm on beta blockers. I'm way too young for this lol. Agree with seeing a pdoc. They can not only get to the root of the issue, but sort out medications too.

A most interesting thread. Thanks for this, all.

I take welbutrin for depression and noticed symptoms similar to what Al describes after switching from strong tobacco flavoured e-juice to a rather nice chocolate flavour for an all-day vape.

The WTA theory may have something to it. I'm going to switch back to the tobacco-y stuff (I miss that badass DK anyway ;) ) for a while and will report back if anything interesting results.

Six months without an analog cig this week, btw.

Al, how much did you smoke before you started vaping? How much are you smoking now? As one person already said, you're not vaping much at all. I can't imagine anything in e-cigs causing problems with so little use. Maybe you cut back too much on the cigs and didn't pick up the slack with the e-cig enough. Your doc's comment about inhalers has merit since they contain PG, but you dumped that. I had a lot of issues (I'm Bipolar and have anxiety) the first week or so when I first made the switch to vaping. I probably could've used some WTA, but I just ended up pushing through it. Much better now.

I was smoking about half a pack a day. I have been spacing out my vaping due to the high anxiety but really can't hit it to much like I said after a few drags I just get all panic.

Here is a discussion on anti-depressants and vaping
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...s-vaping-what-have-you-experienced-print.html

Just from personal knowledge I can say that anxiety could exist from nicotine withdrawal. Cigarettes do contain MAOI that seem to hit the dopamine pathways. Here is a paper that may help explain it further.

This is your brain on nicotine

In conclusion I would say (I am not a doctor) I would slowly titrate my addiction from cigarettes slowly. I say this knowing that you are also on two AD medications. If using WTA or any other whole tobacco alkaloid works I would say continue doing so. I would also suggest keeping your Pdoc updated on your progress.

Best answer on this thread.
This would be the best answer if doctors presented themselves with knowledge related to vaping.

I have asked numerous doctors and pharmacists at work numerous questions related to vaping. I get a blank stare. Maybe someday more information will be available for them to properly assess the vapor-er mainstream. I am sure some doctors may have knowledge but I don't find that to be normal thus far.

^This! Plus OP stated he already asked his doc. Not to mention they're clueless about mental health issues in general. They have no or little knowledge about the effect of smoking or quitting smoking on mental health. That's more the realm of a pdoc, but it takes a whole lot of time and patience to sort out. And when someone's anxious or panicking, they want relief now, not months down the road. I just hope the OP is able to find relief and figure out the cause asap.

Effexor is a powerful medication. Seriously, I hope the OP's prescribing doctor is a Psychiatrist. They are much better qualified to deal with anxiety or depression than GPs.

Plus, if you forget to take it you can get really sick. I was taken off of it 4yrs ago, worst experience I've ever had with a medication was coming off of Effexor.

Exactly! I asked my doc about Wellbutrin and vaping. This was 2 years ago. I am still waiting.

I will tell you what works for me. YMMV but I use mucuna puriens as needed. Mucuna Pruriens extract with l dopa supplement, side effects, benefits for Parkinson's disease

It works for me. However, I don't take any other forms of anti-depressants....and no I don't work for the vendor. One can do a net search. As with anything pro and cons exist.

Just a FYI it is a Psychiatrist that I see and she really didn't know much about vaping and dose is 350mg Effexor and 45mg remeron. I'm gonna stick with wta and ride it out at least for a while. Thanks again
That's good news. Psychiatrists often don't make much of a fuss if their patients smoke. Smoking tends to smooth out the moods for many. Vaping nicotine can have the same effect without the health risks of smoking. If WTA works for you, more power to you!

I started having issues with PG and Panic Attacks a month after I started vaping....and I've been dealing with it for the last three months. It's gotten better, my doc has increased my meds, and I've lowered my VG, and nic....then they did a scope on my throat...turns out I have a Hiatal Hernia, and once I started treating that most of my issues have gotten better. I was having 3-5 panic attacks aday, I felt like I wasn't getting air into my lungs, and I also couldn't swallow food for almost two months.

Since all of this, I do know that high PG gives me dry mouth and hives on my neck and blisters in the back of my throat...and Too high of VG makes my chest feel tight. So I'm still working on finding the right ratio of PG/VG. The only juice I have been able to vape all day every day without anything issues is Pluid, which is 50/50, but other 50/50 juices bother me.

Hang in there, and don't give up....that's all I can say. And if you need someone to talk to that understands, feel free to PM me anytime.

Hope you start feeling better

xoxo
Katie
