Hi folk, I brand new here. I just found out about e-cigs a few days ago. I've been reading through the posts here and have learned a lot from you all. I've been a smoker for about 40 years and have never been able to quit. The e-cigs sound like something that might work for me, but I'm a little worried about how safe they are. It seems they would have to be safer than cigarettes, but I was wondering if anyone has had a negative experience with them or if their doctors had warned them to stay away from vapeing for some reason. I was wondering about inhaling the flavors. I guess they are supposed to be safe to eat as I understand it as food additives, but does that make them safe to inhale? I know it probably sounds stupid to worry about the inhaling flavors as oppose to the known poisons in cigarette smoke, but I don't want to trade one dangerous habit for another. I was considering trying the max fussion. It worries me a bit that the carts come from China. They don't have such a great record of quality control. On the other hand I know the drug my doctor prescribed for me to help with quiting has suicide as on of it's possible side effects. Which would seem to be a very negative effect on ones health. As I said I'm brand new so if this is a stupid question I appologize. Thanks

The only "negative" affect I've had is a couple nights of insomnia which I hear will fade away shortly. Between vaping and smoking, vaping is a no brainer to me. Just take a look at all the chemicals that cigs are treated with. I only started 5 days ago and its been 5 days without a smoke and I already have more energy and feel way better in the morning then when I was smoking. Give it a shot and good luck!

It is not a stupid question, I had the same question myself

I have been vaping for about 3 weeks, and full time ( no cigarettes ) for the last 11 or so days.

I wake with a slight sore throuat, not bad... just slight. However I am not coughing like I did when I smoked. ( oh so long ago... like 11 days )

I have had a tendency to assume anything I am feeling ( I just got over a cold ) is because of my vaping, which is silly of course. I am not finding a lot negative here, and the really really scary part is... I don’t even want a cigarette, if you get the right unit, and the right juice, I actually prefer this to a cigarette.

And I am vaping a lot

I don’t use carts, I purchased and eGo-T and I cleaned out the atomizer very very well before I used e-juice I got form here in the US, so I avoided that whole issue. It is a little fiddily ( funny word ) I fiddle with the tanks, clean the atty occasionally, but it is also kind of fun, and man oh man does it taste better than a cigarette ever did, and with 24mg Nic juice, just as satisfying.

Yes - medium to high nicotine in 100% PG juice makes my tongue sore and numb because nicotine is a skin irritant. Some others have gotten sore mouth, throat or even lungs. The first juice you get with a 3-piece ecig kit may be 100% PG and it's OK to start. I do not know anything about the juices in Bloog's carts - you could ask them.

But most people will want some US PG/VG blends juices for continuing to vape. I like 70pg/30vg and that's a popular blend - a enough VG to get rid if the harshness but leave enough TH and add some nice vapor too.

I have also over-nicced myself by vaping too much - headache, lightheaded, unwell feeling, rapid heartbeat (that was with a juice of lower nic level - I just vaped it way too much)

Re flavoring additives - mostly stay away from custardy or buttery flavors. Diacetyl is like the stuff fake popcorn butter is made of. Some vendors are definitely diacetyl free. Buy your juices wherever you want - ask the vendor if their juices are diacetyl-free. Fill your own blank cartos if you want.

There is only a tiny amount in some flavorings anyway. Then 5-20% of the flavoring is used in the juice.

I know Backwoods Brew has no diacetyl.

Yes, everything Dormouse said. Plus, it might ease your mind to know that there is NOT ONE ingredient in our e-cigs 'juice' that is not already in tobacco cigarettes. The real difference is not in what IS in e-cigs, it's in what's NOT in e-cigs.

There are more than 599 additives in tobacco products, e-cigs use 3 of those ingredients to make our e-liquids. So you won't be using anything that you haven't already been using for 40 years.

My only side effect is 34 days without tobacco as my master. I have severe respiratory issues, and they have practically gone away since I've been vaping. Just remember to drink plenty of fluids.
Also, don't buy a "name brand" e-cig, most of them are a rip off. You can buy what I am using now the generic version of it is called the riva510, it costs $29.99 for two batteries, two atomizers (those heat up the liquid and turn it to vapor) and mayne 5-10 cartridges (those hold the juice), and do what 98% percent of us do, and buy your own juice from a reputable dealer that makes the juice here in the states, and fill your own cartridges yourself, and once you've been doing this for a while, you can actually start mixing your own juices.
I went from smoking 3-5 packs a day, to no tobacco overnight, because of vaping. I VAPE prop ably more then most people because of the size of my addiction that I'm quitting, and as I said I have asthma, and when I smoked I had to use a nebulizer at least twice a day, and use my hand held inhalers every hour.
Now I might use the hand held inhalers once a day.
But shop around when it comes to the PV choice. Many people before you have wasted too much money(me inclypuded) and ended up wishing they had bought something like the Riva from the get go.
I am not a Dr. And everyone is different, I have no idea what if any harm may come to me from vaping lomgterm, but I am sure of one thing. My health has dramatically improved since I started vaping, and it has done something that I previously thought impossible. I don't want to smoke. DONT WANT A CIGARETTE! Have you ever tried to quit before? Could you imagine that pretty much from day one without a smoke that you wouldn't actually want one? That is amazing for me, from 5 packs a day to none overnight. Good luck with whatever you end up doing,
Here is a site that has a good choice of juices for a great price.

I would not worry about any of the above mentioned possibilities as it is definitely 100% safer than smoking. And there is no evidence that eliquid from the US is any better/safer than eliquid from China. Some of the US make eliquid is put together in people's kitchens. When many of us started vaping, Chinese eliquid was the only option. On the nicotine levels, the biggest mistake that most newbie's make is starting out too low. Vaping is far less efficient in getting nicotine into your system than smoking. The most popular nicotine strength is 24mg. If you start too low, you may never be able to transition away from smoking. You can always lower the nic strength but you can't make it higher.

Good Luck

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance.

This was a real eye opener for me. Thanks for posting this. I definitely feel much more comfortable about e-cigs and flavors now
Thanks everyone for the advice. I really appreciate the help.

I have been regular analog free since Thanksgiving and my transition to vaping was very easy. I started with the ego and have been vaping a 70pg/30vp mix with no problems. I decided that I did not need the long battery life of the ego for my day to day devise so I purchased a super mini from totally wicked. Its a beautiful little cigarette looking devise that I totally totally loved that is until I started coughing. I experimented with eliguid from different companies and loved loved loved the lemon merigue 70/30 mix from freedom smoke usa. In fact when the nicotine cartriges that came with my super mini tasted like avocados and fritos I filled one of the blanks with my fave lemon merigue (which i had been vaping in my ego). I now cough every time I vape. I have not used my super mini or my ego and my cough has finally stopped. I tried dripping glycerin in my ego and sure enough it made me cough. I am thinking of selling my devises and just stop since I gradually lowered my nic from 18 to 6. The only thing is....I love to vape and if i am not vaping I am afraid that i will reach for a cigarette.

Louie one thing to keep in mind when you start these is if you can dont get what we call a two piece. I myself started out with that and soon regretted it because it became more expensive buying the cartomizer (atomizer plus cartridge in one) than spending a bit more in the initial outlay. Another thing....buy two batteries with portable charging kit...trust me you will need them. One thing i found after vaping for about two weeks now is the pg juice by itself is starting to have a chemical taste to it...might just be the juice or need to do a better cleaning on my atty. Youtube is a great place for getting reviews and ideas. Oh and btw keep this in mind....in theory vaping mouthwash for a bigger throat hit might sound good but in practicality...make sure you arent driving at the same time and make sure you have an empty bucket sitting beside you (toilet is better).

I've smoked or 56 years and have been vaping for almost 8 months & have experienced nothing but good things. My breathing has improved, my taste buds have come back to life, and I can take long walks without gasping for air & clutching my chest. My craving for analogs is gone, and I'm a happy man. It's all good.

I posted this elsewhere with no replies...I have dry skin (face) issues in the Winter regardless, that's a given. Was using a GreenSmoke since last May til Feb this year. No problems.
Since I switched to my eGo and juices, my skin, mainly my eye area, has been super dry and peely like never before. Never had my eye area do that in the Winter or with my GS cartos and if I am allergic to PG wouldnt I know that from everything else I use daily and with the GS? I don't want to look more aged after quitting smoking all this time and lose something I enjoy so much and I do drink or have to drink more water than normal.

The OP's concerns are very valid. I wonder about many of them every day as a vaper. The real problem is that the myriad of flavors available also means a myriad of different chemicals that are being inhaled. And even if they are food safe, we have no idea what inhaling them means.

But the real question is not "are e-cigs safe?". The question is "are they safer than real cigarettes?" And we don't really have a scientific answer to this question. Nevertheless, given how much we KNOW about how bad real cigs are, it seems like a safe bet that e-cigs are SAFER.

There is no doubt that nearly every vaper FEELS better than they did when smoking. Less coughing, better breathing, etc.

Given the lack of solid information about the health effects of e-cigs right now, everyone must make their own decision (which I much prefer as opposed to government making that decision for me). But it is my (completely worthless) opinion that e-cigs are a much better alternative to real smoking.

The only complaint/side-effect I have and I keep looking here for info on it the "quit zits". Not form vaping itself I think but from not having some 4000 rogue chemicals running through my body from those nasty analogs. I had a flawless face even in HS. From what I find on the net the face will be cleaning out all the toxins for 4 to 8 weeks. It just temporary but don't plan on any photo shoots soon.

Some adverse effects... hives.. food allergy. Don't know to what, but starting to "narrow the search" to what flavors cause minor issues. Although, I mostly just avoid any flavor that I think gives me problems. Still, less issues with vaping for overall health, than smoking. Another reason I DIY my juice.

I'm one of the unfortunate sufferers of adult acne. I had great skin until I turned about 25... then came the zits. Proactive works great but it gets expensive. You can get AcneFree at any walgreens/rite aid type of store for about $20 for a months supply and it works just as good as Proactive. No more zits.

On the issue of skin, I found that most commercial acne treatments destroyed my skin along with my zits. I use a company that has 100% organic products and they are amazing. Since I don't want to spam, I won't post my affiliate link, but you can just google Evan's Garden to find their main website. It's a little family owned business in Florida. I got some for my daughter who has terrible acne and not only did it clear it up, but it healed most of her scars and she won't stop petting her face because it feels so smooth.

Again, not a plug, this is something I recommended to all my friends and family long before they offered affiliate programs lol.

For those that aren't sure what quit zits are..it is simply the toxins leaving your body from smoking. Most toxins escape through the pores, clogging them and causing pimples.

FYI: Proactive and the other store bought brands bleached all my towels. Makes me wonder what it was doing to my skin. yikes!
