I just find it odd that when Ecigs started to gain popularity, the FDA came down on them like a sledgehammer and classified it along with traditional cigarettes, yet when PMI comes out with a new technology, they open up a different category for THEIR product. Does Might make Right? Do you have to be a millionaire to come up with a healthier alternative?

Money and power do get attention. No federal bureaucrat wants to be the center of a controversy fueled by the well-connected. He'll get a less than stellar performance evaluation and instead of getting a 3% performance bonus, he'll only get 2.5%.

If they give any tax breaks on iqos, or not restrict it as much, then I will be outraged. They failed on their job already with Ecigs, forcing a more unhealthy alternative.

FDA has no authority to impose taxes or give anyone a tax break. Can the agency fast track an application? Yes, and it's at their discretion.

Not fair, not cool. But that's the behemoth we the people crafted.

I think one's perception of the IQOS might be different if one has successfully transitioned to vaping or not. Honestly, if I'd been smoking and that thing appeared in my country I may have jumped on it (regardless of cost) and honestly, in the USA vapers have been rather lucky keeping costs down.... It is my firm belief that is about to change, and I bought more nic over Thanksgiving and will likely buy more at Christmas.

I'm just thankful vaping is WORKING :) The IQOS isn't just expensive, it's messy, it has a slow recharge, and other issues. I do think we will be seeing more products like it in the future. And it seems like it HAS to be less harm reduction than Vaping, since we don't even know what is in these little sticks.

However, I do hope some smokers who won't vape may encounter it and have success and etc.

You're right. After all, we also do not know what damage will be done to health 10-15 years after the use of vaping. All these devices do not add health, but we are looking for something that is less deadly))

Well, we definitely know the cost of vaping. I spent 335 dollars for everything I needed related to vaping the first year I vaped. .. 335 dollars for one YEAR of vaping...

Vaping has been around 10 years now and we actually have people that have been vaping that long here on the forums who have no adverse affects yet, and plenty of positive effect.

I've been vaping nearly 4 years and all the damage smoking caused has healed, to great extent. (I had a lot of damage after 32 years of smoking )

Personally, I can't see anyone seeking a way back into the cigarette addiction via the hnb technology. .. the money involved and back to all the numerous chemicals in their cigarettes. ..

But... that's my view only.

I would just like to state the fact that in all of this discussion about the device, the OP has not responded once to the thread since it started.

Or posted anywhere else...maybe he got popped at the border trying to bring his IQOS across ?

From what I read, no one reported it as "stinky". Difficult to use (requires charging between sticks, IIRC, and not always enough "whatever type of vape it is) delivery, messy, and other things but not stinky. Certainly expensive, and I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole either (cost, and lack of knowledge about how safe the device is). While I am glad to hear that successful vapers aren't running out to purchase it, I hope it genuinely IS safer than tobacco, and that it MIGHT get a never-quitter to give it a shot.

I think there's limited use for vapers who are doing so successfully, but I really hope it can be a transitional device for some, if it works. I still don't know anyone (IRL) that has one though.... :)
