Any other Darwin users out there have problems with the DC attys?

I purchased a 3.5 ohm DC atty, and I primed it up with about 10 drops, as the recommended ammount seemed alittle much. I fired it up and it was alright. Nothing spectacular, since it hadnt broken in yet. After no more than 4 draws, the Darwin didnt fire it. It gave me a wierd symbol that i never saw before. So I unscrewed the atomizer, dripped a couple more drops in it, and fired it up, but I wanted to see what was going on in there, so I take off the drip tip, and fired it up, the top coil glowed bright red then popped(imagine if I had that in my mouth I would have been scared lol).

I quickly told Bruce about what happened, and he was very kind and quick about it, and he sent me a replacement no charge. I got it in the mail, filled it up with 12 drops this time, and fired it up. The top coil doesnt even fire up.

The Ohms that the Darwin detects is 6.9-7.1, but I get a strange taste from the one thats top coil doesnt fire, and an extreme brunt taste from the one thats top coil popped(obviously)

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. As I highly doubt basically 2 DOA attys were sent in a row.

If the ohm reading is around 7 ohms, then one of the coils is popped or has a broken connection somewhere (3.5 ohm dual coil means it has two 7 ohm coils)

As for the first one, the only indicator message on the Darwin other than the normal operating display is to indicate a short.

I really don't have any ideas for you. A 3.5 dual coil should be able to handle pretty much any voltage you can throw at it. I've only used 1.5 ohm ones and only in my UFS at 6V (dripped on one on the Darwin at about 11 watts just briefly to check it out at first, but that's it).

EDIT: do you have an adapter on your Darwin? The adapter could be the culprit, causing your atty to short out. It's been known to happen, anyway

That has to be be the case, because I cant think of anything else. I used it at 7.6 watts to try it out(5.1~ volts), and thats when it popped. The first atty originally read at 3.5~, then when it popped it read at 6.9-7.1. The second one came in the mail reading at 6.9-7.1. I kinda doubt that the adapter is the culpruit, I have a gooseneck, and a 510-510 adapter that I am even using right now, no problems with either. I really want to try these but I dont know, 2 out of 2 times failing isnt good odds.

I use a goose neck on my darwin and am using COV's DC 2.5 @ 5.5v (11.5watts), sometimes cleaning the connection points to the Darwin or atty connection area, helps out... at least that I have found, adapters the samething, if your not using an drip shield. I usually for new DC atty, drip 12 drops, wait 30 secs , till the ejuice drips out of the bottom of the atty, while holding a paper towel, then wipe it clean and insert it on the gooseneck, though it should work just fine directly on the connector of the Darwin.
