Any reason to choose a carto tank over a protank or something similar?

I had been using glass carto tanks for a while but got tired of having to swap out cartos every 2-3 days (using heavy VG juice seemed to gunk them up fast). So I bought a genesis atomizer, wire, & mesh and have to say I do prefer the genesis atomizers over the carto tanks (better flavor and wicks/coils last a whole lot longer making it cheaper in the long run than constantly swapping out cartos). The only down side is that the genesis atomizers leak juice if left on their side/horizontally.

is there a big difference in the halfling, standard or XL. i want to try some carto tanks now and does this mainly just add to the length for more juice or does it change the flavor and vape you get?

The length of the tank has no effect on the flavor or vape, it is merely a vessel to carry your juice for the cartomizer. It has a big effect on the capacity of the juice, and of course on the aesthetics of the tank.

I think the answer to the original question is only you will be able to answer it.

I have tried a lot of things that came highly recommended and didn't like it while others loved it. On the other hand I probably have like things others have hated.

This... I am used to clearos and I love them but after reading so much on carto tanks here I wanted to give it a shot so I ordered an IBtank. I had a horrible time priming the carto. I am sure that is because I am new to it and it has a learning curve. I burnt out 2 cartos before I got it right and vaped on it for a day or so. To me the clearos taste better. Maybe it is because I am used to the cooler vape on the BCC. Who knows... I do not regret my decision at all though. IBTanked makes quality products. I carry a little pouch in my pocket with 2 tanks that I switch between when on the go. I don't think I would feel safe with a carto tank in my pocket. They scare me lol

I will continue to use it at home and see if it grows on me in time

The most important step in building a cartotank is how well you "prime" the cartomizer the very first time. This determines how well that carto will perform for the rest of its life in the tank. Take your time and do it right.

I have a proven method which works well for me and many others on ECF: Baditude's Cartotank Setup Guide

Using the correct resistance will have a huge difference in the flavor and the quality of the vape experience. Some people prefer low resistance (warmer vape) and some prefer standard resistance (cooler vape). High resistance (2.5 - 3.0 ohm) works best for variable voltage mods.

I carry my IBTanked cartotanks on my mods in my front jeans pocket or a coat pocket all the time. I've never broken one tank in over 1.5 years out of over a dozen tanks in use. They are glass, so do handle with care, but these are extremely durable tanks that can be taken out of the house.

The only instances that I have read of a broken glass tube from IBTanked is when one was being cleaned in the sink. When removed from the endcaps, the glass is more vulnerable to breakage than when left as an assembled tank. There is a protective pad between the glass and the endcaps which acts as a shock absorber against impact.

I think cartos as a stand alone, deffinetly have a better taste then the ce4s & my friends nova, IMO. Those are the only clearos i have tried. I will soon be ordering a complete tank from ibtanked soon as they seem to be well loved & from watching & reading reviews of carto tanks, seem to me to be the most thought out in design. I love cartos as standalones on my lil ego batt so I am sure I will fall in love with IBTanks on a vv ego.
What tank to start with or try is kinda like what juice to try......hard to say because its very subjective to each persons taste/prefrences.......Now that i see vapping to be The way for me to stay off stinkies I look forward to trying alot of the diff bbc & carto tanks & even attys just to experience them lol If i dont like something they can go in my new & ever expanding "juice box" for emergency use ;)

So I was watching one of grimmgreen's videos about rebuilding a carto tank and I wondered, is there a compelling reason to choose a carto tank over a protank or i30 or something similar?

Are there quality carto tanks in the price range of the protanks and their cousins?

Carto tanks are just a different way to do the same thing. Why not try both, and then choose for yourself which you like best.

I started using carto tanks long before there were Ce4's, Protanks, or iClear 30's, so my tanks are well over two years old, and still look/work like new.

I probably should have elaborated more on my concern with carto tanks. It's the carto itself. The carts I have are the boge laser slotted. They don't have that base that sits on the bottom of the tank so you can slide them out from either end. That's my fault for not noticing that when I ordered them

If the O-rings fit properly that's not a problem, the tank will stay where you put it. Besides I refill my tanks from the bottom ...... can't do that with a flanged carto.

Which cartos are you guys using? I'm using the boge and doing taste tests between it and a clearo and think the clearo has better flavor. What is the best cart to use?
If you can get an order in before they run out, the IkenVape cartos have an almost legendary status (and following).

If not those, there are those who swear by Boges and those who swear AT Boges. The same can be said of the SmokTech cartos. It appears that both manufacturers have had consistency issues, and IMO it was more of a scandal when there was a bad run of Boges, but that is probably because more people liked and expected better from Boge. Someone gets a crap SmokTech carto and usually just shrugs and tosses it. I guess that's the advantage of lowered expectations.

When it comes to a carto in a tank, I am of the opinion that it's first a matter of finding the right carto for a particular liquid. Depending on the liquid, it MAY run better in one brand than another. There's also finding the right number of coils, the best resistance, the best number of holes. All of which is going to involve some experimentation, trial and error, note taking, which can be shortened by some common sense (such as not filling a 1 hole, low res dual-coil carto with 100% VG and firing it with high voltage/wattage).

Eventually though, people find either a "middle of the road carto that does a decent, but not perfect job with all of their liquids" and buy those by the brick, or they "zero in on the best carto for each liquid they regularly use" and keep a smaller stock of each type that has its best match.

Recon Number 54, great tag line.

I've been vaping for awhile now, and have wanted, tried, forced myself (kicking and screaming) to just LIKE a clearo. Oh welp, that one was just the 'wrong one', so let me buy such and such... it'll be the right one.

    Shop, buy, vape. YUCK!

Guess THAT one wasn't the right one. Let's try THIS one! :D

Needless to say, a bazillion dollars later, I still have not found one clearo that floats my boat.

I remain happily the Carto Tank Kween (if Bad will allow me a seat beside him). I adore the tanks that have been mentioned, as well as Bellas, Bedazzleds, Uniques, Raven's Nest, and even the knock off Fluid Flask.

I want a consistent vape. I don't want to taste burnt wicks or machine oil or anything but my liquid. I want it to wick consistently as I chain vape.

Once a carto is properly filled (primed... see Bad's blog), welp, it is absolutely my vape of choice.

I do need an intervention tho. Someone has to stop me from buying yet another oh-so-cute BCC or TCC! No no no no no ... for me. But, I think you have to try them to know.

Once i got the hang of the carto, i loved them. After i found out what worked i bought a good supply of IKV cartos and i know where to get some Boge F16s for a reasonable price. The F16 cartos are nearly as cheap as Kanger coils so im happy. The IKVs are cheaper than a Innokin coil but i doubt they last as long with my favorite juices. My battery connection now stays as dry as any clearo even with fairly thin juice.

Now ive got 2 DCT Pyrex tanks, 1 UDCT and i just got a IBtanked clear SS caps 19mm XL. It fits the MVP v2 great and i can not believe how well the o-rings hold the carto. It holds them every bit as good as the DCT type tanks.

Did i mention how good it looks on the MVP? :D

I've been using Ikenvape punched cartos. Either the 510-Fusion or Platinum; no real difference in vape as far as I can determine except the Fusions have a flange and the Plats do not.

    I use Smoktech when I don't have IKV's.

    here
I have been vaping on and off for several years.

Started out with a gas station/mall set up. Liked it, but went back to smokes.

Got the Ego-c, liked it but had many issues with flooding in the mouth piece. Went back to smoking.

Got knock off cartomizers in a cheap plastic tank and liked it when it worked. User error was half the problem. Never primed it as much as needed. Went back to smoking.

Got a protank, and liked it. But had issues. Got an ego twist, and it helped. But the flavor was muted and the draw way to light. Got a protank 2, a tad better, but still was not as good as the cheap Cartomizers, when I could get them to work, again do to priming and cheapness issues. Stayed off the smokes and delt with it.

Got an iClear 30, vapor was warm, draw good, but the flavor wasn't as good as the Carts.

Bought a MVP, and that was a plus.

Just got the AGR+, self punched Boge's and I have finally gotten to a place that seems right. Good taste, good vapor, good draw and a warm vape....plus the ability to crank up the watts.

My advice, go with Carts, but do your homework. Understand that quality is important and even more important is knowing how to prime and vape Carts.
