So I was watching one of grimmgreen's videos about rebuilding a carto tank and I wondered, is there a compelling reason to choose a carto tank over a protank or i30 or something similar?

Are there quality carto tanks in the price range of the protanks and their cousins?

I am sure you are going to find people on both sides of this. I much prefer a carto tank over a protank. I think the taste is better.

He's a riot!

However, I agree with you. When I want a serious review, I go to Phil. I really don't watch anyone else nowadays.

Im not putting him down at all. Sometimes i really just want to see how something vapes and looks with the least amount of unwanted other stuff. He gets right to it and cranks up the vaper machine.

God Bless him. :D

Phil though is great when i want some humor and lots of technical details. I wish them both the best.

No war here, just curiosity. Perhaps rebuilding was the wrong term. Here's the link to the video in question. LET'S PUNCH AND FILL CARTOMIZER TANKS! - YouTube
It was about punching the carto and filling the tank. Mistake in terminology is mine.

Hey garen,
Not an issue, most of us jumped at "something new" ,
just like I did when I heard of a wickless EVOD. Turns out to be a double punched carto in an clearo tank.

" IGTV WICKLESS CE5

This high tech stainless tube rebuildable design never gives a burned wick taste because there is no wick. eGo style thread and changeable coil."

I prefer the EVOD BCC, just cause they are fill and go........less muss, n fuss

Everyone will have their own personal preferences. The clearomizer vs cartotank debate is like the Provari vs Reo debate. It all depends upon what you like from your vape.

Personally, I prefer cartotanks. They have been my primary juice attachment for nearly 1.5 years. They have become my "specialty". I have over a dozen pyrex cartotanks.

Cartotanks give me the most flavor and vapor production compared to clearomizers. They are more dependable and consistant, and have zero maintanance. They do take some setup time and have a learning curve, but the end result is worth it to me.

Having said that, I also use clearomizers for their ease in filling something when I'm in a hurry or I don't feel like spending 7 - 8 minutes setting up a new cartotank. But the flavor is sometimes muted in these, and due to their wick design can cause dry hits.

Proper Terminology: Is it a carto, a tank, or what?

Oh Yeah ! Carto Tanks......better Taste, better flavor., can hold more juice. Get Quality IBTanks 22-25 bucks or Phiniacs 50 bucks ( same quality to me)......cartos 1.30 to 1.50 each.

Protank... about 20 bucks...muted flavor.... New coils, abouth the same as cartos....you can rebuild these coils

Thanks for the inputs folks, I have a little bit better idea of what I'm talking about now.
Currently, I'm using a protank 2 on a kamry x6 variable voltage battery. I bought the protank 2 to go with my K100, which was my first device. I used the clearomizer that came with the X6 but I hate how hard it draws. I don't like that much work for a semi vice. I have 2 more protank 2's on the way, along with a MVP 2, which should waiting for me when I get home, according to my tracking #.

I'm really intrigued by carto tanks now, even more than before, so I need to figure out which one(s) to start with. I know I want pyrex tanks though, so thats something I'll be looking for.

Late to the thread but PBusardo did some "gripping" tests on plastic and Pyrex tanks. Pyrex Tanks blew the Plastic Tanks away in gripping power which equates to less chance of leaks.

I suggest going with an IBTanked pyrex cartotank, then. You can get a complete tank setup for about $26 with the glass tube, metal caps (SS or aluminum), cartomizer, tank tool, extra o-rings, and a Thingy tank carrier. Add $9 for a matching drip tip mouthpiece, or purchase a cheaper one for $2.50 elsewhere on the website. IBTanked - Get Tanked With Us!

You'll be able to choose between 4 tank diameters and 3 tank lengths. If you read my review I go into detail in helping you decide which size is best for you. IBTanked Review

I started with some c4s and bought some vivi slims, and a t3. Hated t3 but c4s and vivis were ok. Then they convincrd me here to try an evod even though i hated t3. I decided to give protank a whirl when i liked evods.
My pro1 and 2 are ok, i like them better than c4s and vivis. I havent used either in forever. I prefer evods to protanks but protanks hold more but i hated pro1s metal tip and pro2 gives me constant issues with draw, although now that ive switched the bases its a bit better.
I finally caved and bought a carto tank and it arrived today and im probably going to buy another tonight and stock up on some cartos post haste.

Probably will still use evods tho for testing new flavors or for things i like to vape periodically (like a coffee pairing flavor vs my adv)
I dont think ill buy any more protanks, c4s, or vivis.
I will probably sell or give them away.

In my own opinion, carto tanks just taste better, and are far less troublesome than clearomizers. I own clearo's too, but I use carto tanks the most.
The Artemas (or UDCT) tank is my favorite, and is less than any protank.

I think the Artemas tank is one of the best values in juice vessels. I have a great Phiniac tank that I love, but the Artemas with it's capacity and cost really make it an ideal purchase for those moving over to carto tanks. Once you get the Artemas down, maybe an IBTanked tank or Phiniac among others is in the future.

Vaping on the artemas now, filled with HHV Heavenly tobacco and ECBlend RY4. Wonderful. :thumb:

I used a vivi nova the first year of vaping. It's super easy and everything else intimidated me. This past week, I got brave. I ordered from IBtanked and now I don't think I'll go back. It's love. No leaks, easy to fill, unbelievable flavor. I wish I had tried it sooner. Try both! IBtanked made it really easy to make the jump. Now I gotta figure out what the heck dripping is!

Couldn't agree more. Now that I have had the Artemas and the DCT Pyrex, I'm going to head to the wonderful world of an IBT or Phiniac, but probably in that order!

Keep all of your clearo's though. Sometimes, and depending on circumstances, they are a nice change up or sometimes more convenient. I run an Aro and a Vivi Nova, along with my two carto tanks. Every now and then, I'll hit those. Keeps things interesting. :)
Like I always say, as long as whatever you prefer (clearo's or carto's) keeps you off of analogs......WIN!
