I was a PAD smoker for 14 yrs. I coughed A LOT! I had bronchitis every 3-4 months and couldn't breath and would have to use a rescue inhaler during this time. I even had to use the inhaler on a daily basis towards the end. After quitting no cough. It was a miracle. I am glad I don't cough anymore. In the mornings when I first started vaping I would have to clear my throat but no real cough. Have to remember that when you quit your cilia wake up and start sweeping the junk up to your throat especially while you sleep. That way you swallow it and get rid of it probably without realizing it.

I smoked for over 50 years, the last few years only about a pack and a half a day because we had started only smoking outside or in the garage. I would inhale every drag as deeply as I could and even hold it for a few seconds. I had a bit of a smoker's cough but not a lot, more a throat clearing cough most of the time. When I started vaping the coughing stopped cold, I may cough occasionally but it is just a throat clearing cough. I have allergies and the fall allergy season is here and I'm pretty sure any little cough I have now is from sinus and not lungs. In the week or so after I started vaping, before the pollen hit I had even stopped taking my antihistamine.

Yup, pretty much same story. 38 years, 1-2 pad a day. Morning and late night before bed hack. The only full day I've ever stopped was 4 months ago. Immediately all coughing stopped. But...how about this question- for the past several years, I experienced a type of gag/choke that would cause me to say - Ohhhh, I must have swallowed wrong!? That was a chocking fit, and I haven't had a single episode since I started vaping:)

Since my last cigarette, I haven't coughed much at all and have been afraid to mention this as well because I thought we were supposed to cough up all the gunk and there was something wrong with me. Glad to hear others didn't cough either.

Near the end of my smoking (pack to a pack and a half a day sometimes for about 38 years , I was coughing (even wheezing a little) pretty badly, almost uncontrollably at times, and it all seemed to really kick inafter they added the burn ......ant poison. Now I don't cough at all unless 1.) I'm around analog smokers (sadly because I'm not one of "those"), 2.) something I'm eating or drinking goes down wrong (lol) or 3) my allergies kick up (though these haven't been nearly as intense either). No colds or bronchitis yet either, which I would generally have due to or triggered by allergies by this time of year. Couldn't be happier.

As Robyn and a few others mentioned, I don't think I was much of a lung or deep lung inhaler either (still am not with vaping), so maybe that is part of it. My son, who switched with me and inhales into the lungs more, still coughed pretty badly for about a month after switching, but now his cough is gone too. It's very quiet around here lol

I feel the same way AngiBe, it would seem after 27 years of smoking, I should be coughing years of analog deposited "junk" out but it hasn't happened. It almost worries me that the "junk" will stay in there forever, but it may just be that there wasn't a ton of "junk" in there??? I'm pretty confused about this aspect. Keep us updated please. :)

Smoked 1-1 1/2 PAD for almost 20 yrs and have now quit for 70 days today. I know this sounds strange, but I'm getting a bit upset that I haven't coughed after quitting. I've quit several times before, longest has been three months, I have to say I have NEVER had the "quit cough".

It really bums me out because I would like to so I feel like tar and crap is cleaning out. I actually always look forward to this part of quitting because I feel like it would be a whole cleansing process. I just feel like maybe its always gonna just stick in my lungs.

Anyone else out there smoked for many, many years, quit and never cough?

I smoked a pack a day of menthol for 35 years and I never got the quit cough.

if you are not coughing, that is great! Personally, each quit attempt (including this one) resulted in hacking up (sorry that is the only way to describe it, I realize that is an indelicate term) the garbage I put in my lungs for years. /mom mode engaged....Just drink a lot of water, either way. Water is good for you and you don't want to get dehydrated. /mom mode disengaged

I thought I'd be miserable coughing when I quit, but I don't think I've coughed once. I feel so much better, too!!

I agree! And Congratulations:toast: It sure would be nice if this industry would continue to expand in order to allow more people to expierience this benefit.

I smoked 1 and 1/2 to 2 packs a day for over 20 years - including Lucky Strikes unfiltereds. I use to smoke those because nobody would try to bum a smoke from me. LOL. Most people didn't want, or couldn't handle, an unfiltered Lucky Strike or Chesterfield. Well, needless to say, every morning I would cough, hack, and spit up nasty phlegm. I would also cough periodically throughout the day - a true smoker's cough. I started vaping in July and the coughing has stopped completely. My lungs feel better, but I didn't get the "clean out" cough I was expected either. Odd.
