I'm off to order some Kanthal and Clapton TM coils. I suspect the latter may not work well for me due to the extra power they require.

I've found that the Kanthal coils require more power than the Claptons and give a warmer vape. They seem to need 15W and above to come alive whereas the Claptons are quite happy at 13W.

Thanks for all your comments about changing flavors.
I guess what I'll do is: meld, or soak in vodka (BTW here in MA I can get some drinking calibre pure grain alcohol fairly cheaply and it's alot stronger, evaporates faster and won't waste good ol vodka), or rinse, or not change flavors, or buy more kabukis, or wait until the coil dies. That's a plan.
Just kidding.
Some combination of the above, depending on if it's a juice I know, or one that's totally new and needs to be experienced without being tainted.

Now see, that makes perfect sense to me.:)
Unfortunately, My wife doesn't see the sense in it. :mad:

My saving grace is, I get a weekly allowance for gas, food, and smokes (2 packs a day). It hasn't changed since I stopped smoking. So I have a built in vape budget.:thumbs: Some day she will catch on to this.:(

And If I need something big..........
I don't eat for the week.:lol::lol::lol:
Hey, in MA at $10/pack, that's healthy vaping budget you've got going! That's one radius/month or a couple of kabukis.

I'd agree with any and all of your combos, newyork, other than the rinse. Adding water to the coil I do believe will make it soggy yucky.

Yes, darling. I don't even rinse my cotton underwear. Just a vodka soak and air dry. LOL. Or just set them on fire.
I'm still coming to grips with returning (after a couple of years really) to "disposable" coils and trying to minimize disposing them, while at the same time be able to try new flavors and figure out what they taste like without being tainted by the last tankful of something diff. With RTAs I'd simply ditch the cotton, if I were using cotton, or rinse and dryburn the silica, if I were using this.
And BTW, thanks again for pointing me toward NLV.

My pleasure, sincerely. NLV has been the mainstay for me for 4 years now. I'm thrilled you're enjoying it, too.

So we've finally reached the cotton undies discussion, eh? :lol: Why am I picturing you vodka soaking all those tighty whities in Grey Goose. Oh mai. Laundry at newyork's place!!

What did you use in your before life? No coils whatsoever? Kartos, perhaps? ;)

I don't really know the longevity for other people, but my koils seem to last for a LONG time. I really need someone to help me make a PIVOT TABLE or something so I can even begin to figure out just how many new koils I employ in a month's time. I think it's actually fewer than few!

With your love of flava changing, why not dedicate a Kabook to each one? Or..... are there THAT many?

Aw, c'mon now, new juice needs a new coil, otherwise the experience might be "tainted".

Vodka is good for many things. ;)
I use my Kabuki for my ADV and all Sophias for everything else as I can change out the cotton whenever I change flavors in my Sophias.

Finally got a chance to try Bounty Hunter and Caparillo. Not sure about these. Sometimes they taste better after sitting around awhile so I'll try them again at a later date. I think I like Tobanna the best. That one is weirdly appealing.

Excellent strategies all. I have opted for the titfortat method. I spot the wife gazing ata new pair of shoes in a magazine or store and say, "man, those would look awesome on you honey, you should buy them". She always does and I immediately buy the vape gear I wanted. On the rare occasion she comments I just say, "Nice Shoes"[emoji3]

My :2c::

The best liquid for soaking coils is Everclear. In Michigan the highest proof one can purchase is 151 and it cost 74.9 cents a ounce. In some states one can purchase a higher proof and in others, it's just plain illegal.

The best for flavor testing, or tasting, is a HH357LB from Avid Vaper. Until real cleaning is needed due to much build up, stick wadded up vaper towel in the dripping end and blow, from threaded end, old flavor out. Repeat process about 3 times or until no more liquid is present on fresh piece of vaper towel. Do quick one second dry burns a couple of times, if needed, or until you can see coil when you do a one second pull. Make sure your voltage is 4.5 or lower, depending on which ohm atty you have.

HH.357 Long Barrel Hybrid 510 Atomizer

I prefer 2.0 ohm but YMV...

I bought 2 of these over a yr ago- 1 bottle has never been opened & the other, I used maybe 1/4 of it. Once I started rebuilding, Everclear just sat untouched. I did taste it once thou........I think I grew hair on the bottom of my feet! :danger: ous stuff!!!

Now I am scratching my head, new problem with my black 510 Kabuki. When I switched to the metal tank section, and installed a new coil, every time I top it off the coil is stuck firmly in the chimney! It takes a pair of pliers to loosen it so I can get it out of there. WTH!?

Previously, with the original coil and glass / O-rings, the coil remained firmly in the base at every single fill. I'm going to have to take some measurments, I am guessing that the metal section may be a tad shorter than the glass...

That happened with my 510 too - usually the coil was in the chimney, sometimes in the base. Either way I just filled and carried on. I only used the pliers when the coil was finished with. I have only used 1 coil so far in the 510 so may vary with different coils, currently using my P3 & always stays in base.

Thanks for that post. I just went to take it apart as it was empty, and the coil did in fact stay in the base this time. Now I am totally confused, but at least I'm not alone in seeing this. Funny part though, is that with the prior coil, and the glass section, the coil remained tight in the base throughout it's entire life.

I've had this issue with the 510 Kabuki and what I've found most successful is to tighten the coil in the base, refill the tank and when threading it back on the base just to tighten it finger tight. Haven't had any leaks and the coil stays in the base. If I tighten it just a bit too much, invariably the coil stays in the chimney when I refill. I also make sure the coil is tight in the base when I go to refill - there have been times that the coil became loose in the base when I remove the tank.

I saw that one, but I was talking about changing the glass tube...seems people are breaking their tubes when they try to change them out.
Ah, Got it. I can't do video, but I just take the base off, put a coil into the chimney (top part) fold up a paper towel, and while holding the glass, press the base of the coil down onto the paper towel (cushion). I've been doing this with Zen atomizers for quite a while, and have never broken any glass...
