Uhm.. The DOT wants all lithium and lithium-ion batteries in carry-on, not in checked luggage.

A felony? Really? Got a cite please? As far as I can tell, it's against airlines' policies to vape on a plane, but it is not illegal in and of itself.
In the US, it is a felony to disobey the legal instructions of a flight attendant. I know there's too many "ifs" involved, but I can see it happening.

Funny how this thread turns out, I started the thread simply to ask for opinions, not knowing the rules and regulations.

Most people here should know, flying do not always involve TSA and US Federal laws. And international flying like some mentioned is nothing fun to say the least, unless youre in 1st class/business. Some flight can go up to 15 hrs without transit, and for some, its very hard on the craving.

It has nothing to do with being selfish or get the "sheez get some self control". Thats the whole point most of us pick up vaping in the first place.

I guess common sense varies to different people, I understand. I can only speak for myself, even if it is legal, I wont be cloud chasing in my seat.

Plus patches and gums are illegal in my country, cant get em.

But now knowing that vaping sets off smoke alarm, TRUE, im gonna need more self control as ive always did before vaping.

But wet tissue over the mouth, blanket and exhaling with a hot coffee sound very interesting tho :D

I don't really understand the issue and why it would be selfish to do something on a flight that has absolutely no effect on anybody else on the flight. A mostly PG ejuice when inhaled and held for a few seconds has practically none to zero vapor, no odor and all the studies with any merit shows that the tiny amount that I might exhale has no measurable effect on anybody. I am more concerned about the people trying to rattle off one last text message as the flight is taking off.

If I was cloud chasing a .25 ohm coil with 100% VG I could see a problem but that's a different situation altogether. I know pilots who vape, stewardess who vape and air Marshall's who vape during flights and when done discreetly nobody is worst off for it. Sure it's against the law in some countries and some carriers have rules against it but as usual in society they can't tell a drunk chain vaping sub ohm hero to stop without telling a respectable person like myself to stop as well. If someone could explain to me what is so bad about my actions that it warrants being called selfish I would appreciate it. Anybody who knows me would tell you that I would not vape on a flight if I felt even the slightest that it might affect another person. My vaping during a flight is no more disruptive than using a Nicorette Inhaler which is perfectly legal but also stupid expensive and unsatisfying

Bugger.. Just noticed my post was headed towards the wall of text. My apologies if I offended, might of offended or could have possibly offended anybody.

Stealth vaping on a plane with high PG so there is little vapor is not in my opinion selfish . However I think someone with the the flu on a flight is . A passenger with a virus causes a much higher threat to the rest of the passengers than a stealth vaper trying to get a nic fix once in a while .

Brings back a funny, well not at the time, memory for me. I was flying out of Nagoya Japan during the H1N1 scare a few years back and my wife told me to put on a medical mask. I figure everyone else had one on so I didn't need one, btw it's common to see people wearing medical masks in Japanese airport. I learned my lesson when a few days later I came down with the H1N1 virus. Now I wear the mask when my wife tells me to. I am slowly starting to realize my wife is a lot smarter than me but fighting it every step of the way.

I did the first couple of flights, then found it to be too much of a hassle.

Now I get what I call flight juice; high PG, high strength (stealth technique). Is it vaping when there's no vapor?

What ratio, what strength and what flavors do you find work best with that type of juice?

I think a lot of the talk on this thread has to do with problems we are facing, here in the US, with regards to vaping. In many of our local communities/states and even the federal government, laws are being enacted that could take away our rights to vape (or severely limit where we can vape. That's why everyone is very testy. Most responsible vapers do not want to give the authorities, the media, the general public any reason to deny our right to vape.

Many people responding might not have noticed that you are not a based in the US, and therefore are not bound by, or facing some of the hardships regarding laws that we are. From what I have read, things look pretty good for vapers in the Philippines. I would like to know more. What are the laws, what are the challenges, and how is vaping looked upon by your government, the media, the public, the healthcare professionals/system?

The vape scene is pretty good in the Philippines but unlikely it will grow too big because smoking here is far cheaper than vaping. They are still trying to get doctors and dentist to quit smoking while seeing patients so the anti-smoking crusade still as a lot of catching up to do. I can vape just about anywhere I like and most people are just delighted that I am not smoking. I vape discretely in areas where it might get unwanted attention, and avoid evil eye, but otherwise vape freely. I understand your plight in the USA but I believe we should be proud of our decision to vape and acting like it is anything other than it really is causes more harm than good. Funny though how I read about MJ starting to become legal in USA, here even a little bit is jail time, while on another page of news I here about them banning e-cigs. Mixed up world. Best wishes on your continued fight and I hope the government sorts through the hog wash and realizes the truth about vaping. BTW some people are pushing to ban vaping here too but are mostly being ignored because there are actually very few vapors compared to the much bigger smoking issue.

Anyone vape in the toilet in FLIGHT?

while my head likely would fit quite well, my pv is rather large and cumbersome for the remaining space. due to these space restraints and fear of getting stuck in there and having to explain how and why when i'm extracted, i have refrained from such up to this juncture.

We each get to make the decision for ourselves as to the safety of vaping. And I think we each do it because we judge it to be, at least relatively, safe (most of us reasonably know that the effects are not well studied long-term). But to declare it safe for all, to assume the position of deciding for yourself AND for everyone else ... and then to insist that vaping on a plane is not selfish. It boggles my mind.

You get to decide whether you feel vaping is safe for you. You do not get to decide for everyone else. You do not get to decide for the young mother with a toddler three rows back. You do not get to decide for the asthmatic four rows in front of you. You do not get to decide for the newly pregnant flight attendant. You only get to decide for you.

This is not rocket science. It really isn't. Vaping on a plane for your own personal gratification is the definition of selfish. Your needs. Your wants. Your decisions. And to hell with everyone else, because you know what's best.

Grow a bleepin backbone and control yourself. I'm tired of the excuses. I'm tired of the whining ... "Oh no, but I'm addicted!" Guess what. You made that choice. Not everyone else in the plane. So you get to deal with it. You get to be uncomfortable for a few hours. You don't get to decide that your vape is safe for everyone on the plane. Any other choice is just pure selfishness, no matter how you try to rationalize the behavior. Pure selfishness.

What ratio, what strength and what flavors do you find work best with that type of juice?

I usually use 18 mg (50/50, tobaccos and bakeries), so I'll bump it up to 24 mg. Get 100% PG if possible, and a flavor with little to no scent like a mild fruit or tobacco. Dekang is good for this.

    Coffee or tea flavor?

Test it with someone you vape around, like I do when in a car. "Honey, do you smell this?"

Also, use as small of a device (or devices for the long haul) as to be discrete, the higher nic will prevent you from hitting it as often; running down the battery. You might get slightly nic'd out, but that's good in this case.

Practice stealth vaping techniques. YouTube is full of them. Hankies and cups can be awkward if not used to doing that.

BTW - I am not advocating this, it is just my experience.

After the plane has taken off, I will also see if the are seats available that not in the middle of everyone. Maybe pick one online if possible. The second I find I might be getting a weird look, it's off to the toilet, where I pull out the 36 (JK).

If vaping under a blanket on an airplane is selfish, offensive and/or harmful AND vapers believe this, then our opposition has won.

If I were to not vape on a plane it would primarily be because I didn't feel like it or because of (my version of) common courtesy. IMO, common courtesy on a plane would mean no one is sleeping where others are awake, no one is sucked into a movie / TV show that others are not able to view, no one is reading own reading material, simply because they can. None of these things offends me, but all are arguably selfish. Even the baby/child crying, the person snoring or the loud talker aren't to me offensive, though I can feel the annoyance factor they carry into a public situation, which often humors me.

Put yourself in ANTZ shoes for a minute or two. Now think of a place, anywhere on the planet, where vaping would be a good thing to do. Unless you are selling ANTZ short, the reasonable conclusion is that nowhere on the planet (or up in the air, mid-flight) is good. Zero exceptions. Each place that a vaping enthusiast considers a place to vape, needs to be shut down and made an example of "harm" or "offense" to others. This does include vaper's own home/property, if sold on harm aspect inherent to anti-vaping rhetoric.

Common courtesy, on a plane, would be to ask those immediately around you, who may see the vapor, if they are okay with it. Yet, if vaper is under a blanket, then help me through with understanding who may see it, smell it, experience the exhaled vapor? If lights are down in the cabin for public nap time, then chances are very good that no one will see it, smell it, nor experience exhaled vapor. To the degree it can be argued they might experience it, let us also be clear with that argument that people on a plane are all experiencing exhaled air of all other passengers.

So, common sense comes into play, from both the vapers and non-vapers. All of what is above in this post, is common sense spoken to the non-vaper that vapers ought to be well aware of by now, unless you just started vaping say 3 weeks ago. Common sense from vaper perspective would be to not cloud chase, nor blow vapors directly at people. Common sense would suggest that it is not desirable to fill the space of the airplane cabin with vapor. But common sense would also note that is is implausible for one vapor to do that, and improbable that a vaper under a blanket would be able to achieve that.

Anyway, I still reside firmly in the "vape everywhere, with respect" camp. A plane in mid-flight would be the type of place that would test that for me, but not something I'd rule out. I live in the U.S. and am well aware of public usage bans popping up all around me. Fortunately, for me and other vapers in my state, I live in a location that sought in 2013 to exempt eCigs from public usage bans, or more precisely wishing to note that clean air act for the state did not apply to exhaled vapor.

To say these laws are popping up based on existence of vapers is I would say around 5% accurate and reality is that 95% of the reason these particular set of laws get proposed and legislated is due to ANTZ and their approach to determining (for everyone) where are the good places to vape currently and what legislation can they get away with right now given the makeup of the local and state politicians.

No, common sense would be to put your vape away and follow the bloody law. Common sense would be that you don't get to decide for everyone on the plane whether they breathe in your vape.

Actually, check that. Apparently, it's not as common as one might imagine.

No, common sense would be to put your vape away and follow the bloody law.

In the first place, vaping is not allowed in planes because some politics thought it was more intersesting for them to get discreet money from big tobacco than saving lives with smoking alternatives...
So selfishness needs to be relativized.
And as someone in the thread said, you can vape with no more vapor than a nic inhaler, so nothing for your neighbor to breath from you, if you really worry for the whole pregnant plane ^^
