hey guys, I notice my tobecco kayfun has juice channels smaller than the original. has anyone dremeled out their kayfun clone before? If so i would love some tips on how to do it, like what size bit or whatever you used and any pointers. Im afraid of ruining the threads, and i am not sure how deep to go. etc.

regards

I agree with crxess about trying it multiple times before cutting into it as many people do not have a problem with the device.

I just cut my juice channels deeper yesterday with my dremel on my FT Russian 91%. I used a tip that I found in my collection that looked similiar to this. It seemed to work fairly well. I did bounce it off the threads a couple of times by accident but it didn't do any damage. It worked really well and my Russian FT Clone now works where before it didn't. As always YMMV.

I've done this on pretty much everyone of my kayfun clones (4) and my russian 91%. Simply because I use ekowool (no cotton here folks) and the potential for dry hits increases with this kind of wick (IMO). Nothing drastic though, I use a small dremel bit, I believe it's 1/16 diameter because it fits perfectly in the channels. I use it approx. 30-45 seconds on a the lowest power setting in each channel. This helps especially with the clones as many of them come with the channels not fully carved out. Just by looking at my kayfuns/russian you would never be able to tell I've altered them in any way. But it does help drastically to assure that they wick properly.

Think I'm just going to have a good laugh.
2x Rocket Tanks
2x KayFun Lite Plus (clones)
2x $14 Kayfun Lite(Clones)

No Grinding
No Flooding
No Dry hits
All Chain vapable

Getting the wicking right is 99% of getting it to function well.

Kayfun does not really need sub ohm coils to work well, but to each their own.

I really do feel like a got a poorly machined unit. When I screw on the bottom part of the chimney, it's almost impossible to see any light coming thru the channels. I think the 45° turn is so tight, the juice can't flow properly.

Did you give this a try? Just wondering as I seem to be able to get a dry hit easily if i crank the heat up any. My channels do not even actually meet( they are close, but the groves do not actually come together). HCigar Kayfun 3.1

Yup. Here's my post about it ... Modifying FT Rocket for more air flow and opening the juice channels for better wicking .

Those mods made enough of a difference for me so that I'm not getting any dry hits any more. I still want a more open draw, but at least what I've got is giving me a good vape now.

I didn't make too much of a change in it because I didn't want to go too far. If you want I can do a bit more measuring and estimate better what changes I did make.

I'm gonna get it tomorrow. I'll report back.

I drilled my air hole to 5/64" with a cobalt bit then made the juice channels bigger using a diamond burr bit. Drilling the air hole really helped the draw, I actually have full adjustment of my afc now and don't run it all the way open.
Can't say that making the juice channels larger did anything, it wicked well before and it wicks well now but they look more like the size of the original and it made me feel better.

Left is definitely messed up. Nothing like my Black Editions which have nice channel cuts.(made by Tobaco)
One on the Right is highly modified. Even has a custom made Positive plate. Look how wide it is. Corners are not rounded to avoid a short if it twist a little.

Yeah, I loved it. It was my first, so I was having leaking issues following build advice. I broke a bit in it.. with not even putting pressure on a drill press. Other than the positive block being brass, and not being the same threading, the performance was stellar. Even with a wick that had been used for a while, I'd get that bubbling from wicking being super efficient.
