I like my flavors really strong. There has only been one flavor where I needed to add 2 drops to taste it's potency.

All my other flavors; FW, TPA, CAP; I like them mixed in recipes at least 20% or higher.
I have let them steep so I know I haven't over flavored.

I'm finding that anything below 20% doesn't pack as much flavor.

Can anyone else relate or am I the only weirdo around?

Depends on what you're using. In my experience, sometimes adding too much flavor will turn into a perfume tasting vape. Harshness is also a factor. When I mix TPA's Apple Candy at 15%, it's harsh and I can't stand it, but at 10%, it's an amazing vape, especially if you add some other fruit flavors that blend with Apple Candy. I usually end up with 20% on my flavoring but I rarely add more than 2 "strong" flavors, meaning ones that can overpower others. I will usually add a flavor as a base, such as Blueberry Extra or Champagne, which are relatively weak. Other than that, some flavors I can't vape under 15%, such as Mt. Dew (TPA), or with VZ, I really like Pear at 4%, which is significantly higher than the standard 2.5%

Also, I have to be very careful when I add Spearmint or Peppermint to my mixes as they can easily overpower mellow flavors. One big drop of spearmint into a 5ml bottle is strong enough most of the time.

20mg (per ml) NOT 20%....you'd be dead. I think that's about 2% but I'm too tired to do the math.

I can vape 24mg all day but if I start doing homework and chain-vaping late in the evening I need to switch down to 12 or so, else I can get a headache or agitation. Agitation + homework do not mix!

I'm very upset at how hard it is to get a flavorful low-nic. It is possible but difficult. The reason is we can taste nicotine so unless something is substituted for it in the lower-nic juices, they're just plain missing flavor. And the replacement needs to be a little bitter and a little peppery. I've seen some posts suggesting soaking pepper or peppers in vg and adding a drop or two to a 3ml bottle of juice. I also suspect you can add low-nic Gandalf because the 12 mg somehow has a cigar taste at the end, no idea how Heather did that. I'm also experimenting with a drop or two of dandelion extract from the health food store (in alcohol) but it's not bitter-enough. Maybe it's time to dig some up from the lawn, roast them, and soak them in pg or vg for a day or two? But I can't cook, and so far my only DIY attempt turned out horribly, so someone who is NOT ME needs to play with this stuff. A DIY expert.

I think the OP is referring to flavor concentrations, 20% flavoring is fairly common round' here, especially with the weak flavors. :vapor:
AH! Sorry!

I tried to put about 7% of 555 flavoring into very weak-tasting 555 0-nic juice and got perfume that nearly turned me off of my favorite vapes.

It must depend on a bunch of things.

I always mix at 20% except for peppermint ,menthol and tobacco flavor. Some brands are stronger than others.Flavor west tobaccos I mix at 20%.also I don't use any TPA orTFA because they are just too perfumey to me.I think people with VV devices mix lower.I also use a 50/50 blend which makes for a weaker flavor.Just my 2 cents.

I would assume that they add peppermint oil to the peppermint flavors. I have some peppermint essential oil and it is STRONG. Just like spearmint or eucalyptus, 1 drop per 5,10 ml is usually all you should start out with. I don't think it'd be possible to get an authentic peppermint taste using simply menthol and some "peppermintish" flavor. That's my guess as to why those flavors are that strong.

My flavor usage ranges from 1% to 16%. If not for one particular vender I would never exceed 12%. My average I would say is 6% to 8%. I find many flavors top out at a certain percentage and plateau. For example FW strawberry for me maxes out at 9%. Anything more just makes it acidic and dosent add flavor.

I dont know really how much VG mutes flavors as opposed to PG. Ive yet to do any proper tests to see for myself what differences I might notice (or not). All of my blends are 70pg / 30vg.

There was once a flavor concentrate so watered down, that I mixed it at 25% and it was still weak! But what I did notice was that from 18% to the 25% the difference was so slight, that it was a waste to go beyond the 18%. The funny thing was that the aroma of the concentrate was very strong.

Ditto! Plus coffee flavor. Anything more than 1drop per 5ml tastes awful.

Good idea. I'm going to try and mix 3ml of flavor with PG only and see if it makes a difference. I don't see why it would though. I guess anything that dilutes the flavor would be the same?

Eh, I range from 0.25% to 35% depending on the recipe.

Trust me, you're not the only weirdo...
Yay! Me too. I was scared to say I sometimes mix at 30%. I thought there would be a lot of backlash. :toast:

When I started vaping I'd order my premixed from vendors with big flavor, and I'd get the extra flavor option if there was one. When I started DIY my mixes were up around 20%. For some reason my need for flavor has gradually gone down though. Now I'm at around 12% (and 3-5% with SC). At lower percentages I'm finding that I have better luck with my mixes that use multiple flavors. It's quite possible that that's just because as my desire for flavor slowly went down, my skill as a mixer and my understanding of the flavors slowly went up.

18 - 22% total, weaker single flavor things will go as high as 25%. My all day vape for the past year is 20%, tobacco blend plus vanilla.

It really just depends on the strength of the individual flavorings that you like to use. I use mainly natures flavors organics, plus tpa tobacco blend. Others use some much stronger flavorings.

Feh, I've had responses that were some form of backlash. I pretty much ignore them and move on. I've been around the block too many times to get my knickers is knot over the tendancy of some to nanny.

I'm firmly in the camp of whatever works for you is the way to go as long as no other humans are damaged in the process.
