About 1/3 of my on line transactions end up in some sort of small, less that $5, charge going somewhere in China. I always cancel the card and get a refund from my credit card company. I think a lot of companies get hacked for credit card numbers but most of them are not willing to admit it as it is bad for business.

Didn't PayPal get hacked within the last couple of years? Seems like there was a news story about that.

Reset your computer to factory settings and set up your phone to get emails. My husbands pp get's charged sometimes and he usually calls me to ask why did he just win bottle nipples on e-bay. It concerns me cause I'm like wth is he doing checking emails while driving??? Even his cc gets charged and he always asks me first as if I just spent 37$ at vapor bomb. Note to Vapi, just because the cc is in your wallet, doesn't mean he won't see all the purchases he is paying for. Darn those electronic statements!

If you are getting hacked through paypal, call them and they will send you a security key card. Then when you log in, you press the button on the security key card and enter the number on their site. Supposedly this will keep you account from being hacked. One word of caution, don't let your card get cold (i left mine in my purse in the car). It will not work any more. Hope this helps. I did have my card hacked when i bought ecig stuff but not through paypal.

maybe you are being keylogged??

That would be my suggestion. Unless you are somehow sending the vendor your account information, it is going through Paypal or some other merchant account, not directly to the vendor. Knock on wood, I have probably made thousands of online transactions and the only place I ever had numbers stolen was at a gas station.

The way PayPal works, the supplier never sees, or has access to any of your account numbers, so someone other than the suppliers you are buying from are somehow getting your account numbers either through your computer (keyboard logger), or through PayPal's system, which is highly unlikely. Luckily though, for you, PayPal stands behind their customers. I've used PayPal for several years and have never had a problem.

From the standpoint of the seller, the PP debit card doesn't look any diff than any other credit/debit card (unless there is a specific set of numbers only papal has access to). Paypal won't let many PV suppliers take PP payments directly, which is why we use the debit card to get around this limitation and still use our paypal accounts to buy PV stuff! :)

I do find it ironic though that heavenly gifts in china is able to take PP directly, not having to go thru the debit shadow.

I will agree that the OPs issue may be related to some issue on their own system, rather than shady dealers. Getting hit twice in that short of a period of time sounds like someone has you hooked, watching (keylogger, etc).

I am another 8+ year Paypal debit user, hundreds of diff purchases from diff vendors and never had a fraud issue yet.

I'm going to take a stab that you have a wireless router sitting between your PC and your modem. If your wireless isn't completely secured they might be intercepting packets, which is very easy, and then decoding them after obtaining a certain amount. If my guess was correct, it's time to set your wireless security to at least 256 bit encryption and make sure your password isn't anything that can be guessed by looking at publicly obtained information. Such as children/spouses names, birthdays, or telephone numbers. I always hear cable installers suggesting for people to use their phone number for the network password, which is just plain stupid.

Never had mine stolen, but dh's was hacked once after buying a bunch of bullet re-loading stuff online. Thank goodness for our bank. They called to ask why we overdrew our account by a couple thousand dollars and if those were fraudulent. If we ever manage to have more than a couple of dollars in the overdraft savings, then I might need to see if there's a way to separate it from the checking. I just don't keep anything more than what I'm actually spending in the bank. Sometimes I have to go put money in the bank to make a purchase, but it beats $300 in overdraft fees from someone hacking the card (or from my inability to balance a checkbook )

I just had this happen to me. Not a pp debit card but a credit card I use just for online purchases. The only thing on the card last month were three purchases from vendors. I had a store call me up to verify a sale of a robotic vacuum and mis. items for about $600. The reason they called was because the purchases were going to a different address than was on the account.

Never ever have had this happen before and I've been buying online for years.

I am the only one at my computer and sees the paypal debit card that is hooked into my bank account, this time the card was used in the USA one for CCbill. com for $3.95, the other to a person for .95 these was test to see if the card worked I'm sure.

I seen the email from paypal called fast and got the card killed, the time before one was made to microsoft and some other place from china, that is why I stop buying from china thinking they may have got my card numbers from a china dealer.

The other charge that time was for Skype and ebay owns it and paypal, so they could of found out the info but they don't even try, had I not seen the small charges I'm 110% sure they would of charged more this time as they was testing it.

A update:

I run 4 different programs to find key loggers and other stuff, and they found none at all it did take a long time, but they must be getting the card numbers so other way.

Are you sure you're not just getting charged for some of the CC vendors? Some, not many charge you. I've also been hit before with fees for paying to vendors that aren't in the states before, they look small, and can cause an alert to you. :\

*shrugs* I've never had any of my information compromised, so I cannot really be sure.

I always keep two bank accounts, my bank allows instant transfers online for free. I just keep my checking empty until I need it for something, transfer exactly what I need, maybe a tad more, and then go to proceed to use my card.

My bank doesn't allow debit overdraft charges (thanks to the new regulations set in place), so I never worry about that. That's just one small security measure I take, though. It may or may not be suitable to you. My thought process with this method though, is chances are, if they steal my card number, when they try to even charge $0.50, they'll get a decline, and probably move on and try something else.

*shrug*
