I would hope for the best but I don't see much of the live and let live philosophy in the U.S. anymore. It seems to be my way or the highway sad to say.
Regulation and taxation isn't a matter of "if". It's a matter of "when".
The thing I'm most worried about is the whole "one cartridge replaces 2 pack of cigarettes" nonsense going around in the current cig-a-like marketing. If e-juice gets taxed on a 1ml unit, it's going to be rough seas ahead.
