Anyone tried NIZN batteries?

At 1.6v nominal and 1.8 off the charger they seem like an ideal battery for flashlight mods which already come with a 3s style battery holder. 4.8v without any regulation of voltage just seems too simple.

I haven't used them, but I believe Stosh has.

NiMH batteries - 1.4V off the charger - I have used. Check out the Puck link in my signature. I went from cig-style PV right to making Pucks and used them for 6 or 7 months before making my first li-ion battery mod.

NiMHs are fairly inexpensive and you can get a 15 minute charger for them. I've shorted the batteries and the only thing that happened was a sagging battery spring - batteries still work.
