I have a ProVari, Lava tube, Lambo 4.0 and a couple ego-T's
Any recommendations on a decent VV as a backup for my ProVari?

The lava tube is well crappy the Lambo's connection is not good. Pushpin style and it get's stuck in my Vivi's!

Just want a solid 18650 compatible tube that I can have on hand to take out and not worry if it gets broken or lost!

I was looking for the exact same thing. I was looking for something easier to carry around for out-and-about than my full size Provari. Of course, I'd love to have a Mini, but I couldn't justify another $200 + batteries at this time.

After doing a fair amount of research, I ended up getting a Smoktech Variable Voltage Gripper. $50 from mad vapes. It's lightweight, small and stealthlike, fits easy in a shirt or coat pocket, is comfortable to hold in your hand, has an excellent LED display, and uses the same 18650 battery that my extended Provari uses, for all day and more battery time.

It does have a couple of downsides. The body is made of shatterproof plastic (rubberized feel) so its durability may be questionable. The battery door has been known to break by previous owners, but upon careful inspection of mine it looks like if one is careful it could last a long time. As with many of the cheaper Chinese mods that use PWM chips, it tends to output a higher voltage than set by approximately 0.5v, but I knew this going in and adjust accordingly. Considering the price, its perfect for what I wanted.

Two thumbs up!

My smoktek vv gripper fell apart like a 2 dollar watch only after a couple weeks of use, I got the ZMAX 2 & love it!! No problems at all
Sorry about your misfortune with the Gripper. I realize that it has a rubberized coated plastic body and likely will not be as durable as a metal mod, but I've been impressed with it so far. If it only lasts me a few months I'll be satisfied. At that time I plan to reward myself for my one year aniversary of being smoke free with a new Mini Provari.

Glad you love your Max. Just too large for what I was looking for.

Hi Vegas,
I would suggest the Vamo too. What I like about it is that I can use it with an 18350 for a stealthier look, or an 18650. As well as having variable voltage it also has variable wattage. It's been tested and is accurate. Will cost you around $50. Some folk have been buying them here from Vapor Bank:
https://vaporbank.com/shop/index.php?p=product&id=884

Health Cabin in China have them too. They call it the eGo APV. A lot of people have also bought them from there. They have been offering cheap DHL shipping to some places, 3 days to deliver and tracked all the way:
eGo Variable Volt/Watt APV V2 (Only Body) [D-B4 APV] - $39.00 : Healthcabin Electronic Cigarettes - Wholesale and Retail

For you, if you're interested the one from Vapor Bank would probably work out about the same cost.

A couple of pics for you to see the 18350 and 18650 sizes:

I am happily vamping on my ProVari and Vamo. The Zmax got put away for a rainy day, I actually like the Vamo better for some reason. I also use my VV Gripper daily. I would go for price on a backup, so the Vamo would have to win out unless you can find a Gripper on sale. I like the Gripper, I just think there are more options on the Vamo for the price since it has RMS.
