Are cig looking PV devices only for the entry level?

Personal Opinion:
"Cig looking" ecigs shouldn't be sold period. I have a little saying, if you see a commercial for it or hear it over the radio, don't buy it.

As far as the ego, I don't consider that a "cig-looking" device, but the ones that light up at the end. Think eGo's should be the minimum for an entry level vaper, anything "lower quality" than that should be considered a waste of money.

I would say that those who stay with the mini battery models are primarilly light and/or social smokers and those you have no clue there are other options available. And those who put a high priority on what others think of them.

hmmmm, I was a 2+ pad smoker for over 35 years. and of course being here I am aware of what else is available. and I am an old woman and I honestly don't care at all what anyone thinks of me! :toast:

There are exceptions in every situation. Glad it works for you. I've talked to so many people and read so many posts from those who moved up to a better battery PV and they almost without execption stated it provided a much better vaping experience. On the other side of the coin, I personally know 10 people who tried a mini battery PV, found they were too weak and inconsistent and went back to smoking. In giving advice, I would rather error on the side of providing the new person more and not less, in the area of performance.

Thank you all for the advice. I've been reluctant to move to any of the fat batteries because of the look.
I'm too old to want to stand out. The other issue I've had is the simplicity and convenience of the KR808 cartomizers.
That said, the KR808 equipment hasn't broken me completely from cigs. It's cut my smoking more than half of what it was, but reading here about the devices having hotter, thicker and more vapor might be the answer to get me off cigs completely. I think I found a compromise and today I placed an order for an SD Keyring and a box of low resistance 510 catomizers. The SD is so small it will be easy to not stand out with it. I'll report back how it goes with the device.

My Brother came home all excited about his white little ecig. Hasnt touched it since, vaped it all the way home and that nite and thats it. Its sitting in his drawer, along with some ego t's, and a woodville. He's back to smoking, I've tried everything but he is one of the ones that just isnt 'biting'.
I nabbed the woodville and told him i'd keep it for him, because he's nuts to just keep it in his drawer. He told me to sell it for him, but I cant give up on him just yet.

I even showed him my new provari mini with blue led, and my lavatube, ..nothing...just a 'ooh or thats nice', but didnt even want to try either. sigh.

I'm in my mid 50's and I've been smoking since I was 14. Damn tough habit to kick.
To be perfectly honest, before I found vaping, I had never even considered quitting smoking.
Unfortunately I do enjoy it. Even if I end up staying with my KR808 stuff, I'm still going to keep at trying.
Logic tells me its crazy to smoke, yet I still do..... damn cigarettes.

You'll get there. i started slowly, still had smokes around, then quit completely and did nothing but vape, and still had the cigarettes around, kept a half pack above my bed on a shelf, knowing they were there just in case actually worked. then i'd get stressed and have one. then i'd vape all the time again, til i had nothing but crapppy juices, and smoked til i got better juices. then i started vaping more cigar and pipe types, and that did it. vaping just desserts kinda didnt work at the get go', now i love both, dessert juices with coffees and after dinner etc, and the cigars and pipe types daily.

I've tried multiple types of e cigs, but still stick with my Volt hardware. There is just something about them - maybe the smaller size, less looks from strangers, and I feel that they vape wonderfully. Easy to clean and refill too. I've been vaping for about 2 years. I do have some eGos but I find that they tend to just lay around unused unless I want one of two flavors I have that just don't vape well out of the Volts, too thick I think.

I was one who started with a little stick even though I was a heavy 3 pack smoker. I quit instantly, but I'm convinced that the only way I did it was by vaping every second of every day for the first 3 weeks or more. That's not practical for most people. It took 3 weeks to get sick and tired of constantly charging, worrying about and rotating batteries. By then, I had amassed a collection of 6 batteries and, including the PCC, had sunk at least $100 in the collection.

So I ordered a decent sized battery mod, a 14500 Baby Bullet. It was thicker but no longer than the crappy 180mah stick I was using and a battery would last an easy 6-8 hours without losing vapor production in 30 minutes. If I had started out with that, not only would I have saved myself $100, but I probably would not have had to constantly chain-vape in order to quit entirely and instantly.

IMO, most, not all but the majority, of people who are happy to stay with a cig lookalike permanently and exclusively were either light smokers to begin with, are unaware of the massively increased performance of a better PV, or they're "timid vapers" who prefer to "sneak vape" or they still smoke some analogs. I've seen these polls that show a 50/50 split between those who stay with the cig lookalikes and those who don't. I'm not buying it because they are skewed by people who have been vaping for less than six months or a year and those who never smoked much in the first place. That said, there are a couple (just a couple) of e-cigs that are not too terribly bad. I suspect most of the lookalike fans are using those particular models, in addition to the other factors of being light smokers and/or never having tried a bigger battery e-cig.

I'd like to see a poll of how many people used to smoke a pack/day or more, have been vaping for longer than six months, and have kept on using one of the e-cig lookalikes as their go-to vape. It think it would tell a completely different story. I'd guess 10% or less. There are posts on the new member boards every single day to back that up. A constant theme goes something like: "I wish someone had talked me into a bigger model", or "I wish I had gone straight to a bigger battery", or "I wish I hadn't wasted $200 on this stupid Blu or V2 or whatever" or "I don't know why I didn't get a kGo, eGo, mod or whatever a lot sooner."

There's a long thread somewhere here, dragged out over several months, that discussed the OPs frustration with the eGo fanbois who were always recommending eGos, regardless of the stated preferences of an inquiring newbie. (it was an old thread from when eGos were fairly new).

In the beginning, one of the posters was vehement that she would stay with her lookalike. She'd been using it for several months and couldn't imagine wanting or needing anything better. She argued and argued in defense of her beloved lookalike.

Then, she ran into a 40% off sale on an eGo and got one, fully convinced that she was going to hate it and give it to her brother. It was too big, too bulky and too over-hyped. But she agreed to give it a fair trial for a week and report back. A day or two after it arrived she had made a 180 degree turn around. She was blown away and loved it. She couldn't imagine what had been wrong with her for all those months. For the remainder of the thread, she was evangelizing for the ego.

I think a lot of the people who swear by the cig lookalikes as a permanent, exclusive PV simply have no frame of reference. Nothing particularly wrong with that; whatever floats their boat. In a way, they're doing themselves a disservice, which is also o.k.. But when they recommend a cig lookalike to some newbie who's smoking a pack a day or more and isn't absolutely insisting on a cig lookalike, they're doing that newbie a disservice based on their very limited experience and lack of any frame of reference.

Now, before you hardcore volt vapers get all ....-hurt and start flaming, read again. I made an honest effort to say "most", "many", "a lot of". There are exceptions to every rule and it's no insult to be exceptional.

I've just started vaping, I'm at the end of day three now. I'm on a small cig look-a-like. (V2). I'm going to stay with this until I MUST have something else. So far, the batteries for the one auto and one manual are getting me completely through the day (and then some). I'm sure the batteries will peter out as time goes on. I know they will.

I've already reduced my nicotine levels (I was shocked 18mg was too much!) and I'm down to 12mg. I've only had one bad craving, but I didn't give into it and it really only lasted about 90 seconds and I was able to vape it away. As of today, I haven't really had an analog craving.

I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 30 years, if I'm going to be honest with myself. I think I've realized one thing though... While I went through 1.5-2 packs a day... I now think that it's quite possible that all these years I might have actually only been taking 2-3 drags off each analog, and letting the rest burn off. I'm shockingly vaping VERY little. I just went two hours of just fiddling with my cig-look-a-like and maybe only vaped it a total of 4 puffs. I think just seeing it sit in the clean ashtray on my side-table or between my fingers is helpful! It was crazy when I realized it! My carts are lasting more than a day, and the batteries are holding out all day. I can't believe I was essentially lighting almost $20 a day and just letting it burn up. I really think that's what I might have been doing all these years!

I am not all that old to this stuff yet but I like the cig sized batteries. I also like the ego sized stuff too but thats as big as I plan to go. I look at these mods and stuff and can see cops around here messing with some one puffing on some of these things. Maybe it does not help that I work in a place that sells items for smoking other stuff and those items remind me of some of the mods I see on here but I just can't see my self ever wanting a mod. I like the cig sized batteries because they fit in my pocket well, I can pull it out take a few puffs and slip it back in my pocket.

I believe that it all depends on what kind of smoker you used to be. I was a pack a day smoker who smoked because of addiction and it didn't matter what kinds of cigs I was smokeing. After switching to vaping I soon found that my humble 510 cig model wasn't enough for me. So now I pretty much exclusivly use my mods instead of original kit. It all comes down to Vapor production Vs. traditional looks. Like most vapers I learned that my mods are much more satisfying.

Great feedback everyone and boy does it all ring true.
I really don't have a frame of reference of what may be better, since I've only tried the KR808 cig styles.
They aren't even LR, since the cig style batteries won't take the load I've always gone with 3.0.
Sailorman, your reply made me laugh out loud. I glanced over at my collection of eight different KR808 batteries and thought about the PCC's and so on that I've tried.... The only constant thing I've learned to stick with is Backwoods Brew ejuice. If Don ever retires I'll be lost... I've got the SD Keyrings and LR510 cartomizers on the way to me now so I'll be stalking the mailman for the next few days :) Thank you all for the responses. I'll post my honest opinion of if I notice a difference from using the bigger battery with low resistance cartomizers vs the standard KR808 stuff.
I also confessed to my wife that I had ordered even more ecig stuff. I thought she'd ban me from the internet, but instead she reminded me about how much money I used to spend on cigs. Even through the KR808 stuff hasn't completely gotten me off cigs, it has still cut my smoking down to less than half of where I was. Even the indoor smoking bans didn't have this big an effect :)

So as you can see from my sig it hasn't been too long since I got back off the analogs. But the volt is what did it for me....but I did order a lavatube 3 days later for an @home device :D. For me it was important to have something inconspicuous and small for on the go and the volt with the mega pcc is perfect for that. I also wanted something that I could load up and vape on all night at home with no worries, and that is where the lavatube comes in. I should have my tanks soon too which will make this more fun

Good observation on your part that you were REALLY just a light smoker. That is the real reason your V2 is still working for you and you could so easily drop your nic strength.
